Leon Osman looks set to finally have his much needed knee operation - having delayed it for over a month. Osman is awaiting the results of a scan before making a decision, with any operation taking place over the international break. It is believed Osman could be out for anything up to 8 weeks.
Joleon Lescott has surprisingly retained his place in the England squad, having been poor all season for Everton. Lescott - who has looked a shadow of his former self - looks set to be involved for the games against Kazakhstan and Belarus.
Everton Ladies - the usually reliable Toffee team - have been dumped out of the League Cup by the mighty Arsenal, losing 3-1 yesterday afternoon. Fara Williams netted for the Blues.
Having been handed the captain's armband for the home clash against Newcastle United, Mikel Arteta has spoken of his pride at leading out the Blues.
The Spanish star - yet to be capped by his native Spain - revealed whilst it was a massive honour for him personally, the final result was very disappointing.
"It’s been an honour, it’s been a very nice thing from the manager and the players to have the confidence in me to give me the arm band.
"We were the better team, we were pressing much better than what we’ve done recently, we didn’t allow them to play any football."
"But again we conceded two goals at home and it looks like we’re conceding that many in every game.
"We can’t be scoring three goals in every game to win, so we have to stop that some how.
"I don’t know what we have to do but if it carries on we will struggle."
It is hoped Arteta will soon recapture the form that endeared him to the Everton faithful. With no injuries to now point at, Arteta will be looking to improve upon his current displays....discuss this on the forums
If newspaper reports are to believed, Everton look finally set to secure a takeover deal that will in turn ensure David Moyes signs his new contract.
Exclusives in the Telegraph and the Times suggest that two £200 million bids are already on the table, with chairman Bill Kenwright in advanced talks with two parties.
The Middle East party are believed to be another sovereign wealth fund, similar to the Abu Dhabi United Group who took over Manchester City recently for a similar amount.
Bill Kenwright, the Everton chairman, has been desperately seeking outside investment for the past four years, aware he does not have the wealth to allow his club to compete at the top end of the transfer market and he is confident his search is close to fruition.
It is hoped any potential deal will be fine tuned and completed before the January sales commence, which would hopefully allow significant squad strengthening. Watch this space....discuss this on the forums
Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more. Everton’s wait for a home victory goes on as Newcastle fought back from two goals down to earn a point at a sun basked Goodison Park.
Everton played well in the opening half, with Pienaar and Baines in particular linking well down the left and after forty four minutes led 2-0.
Mikel Arteta gave the Toffees a deserved lead from the penalty spot, sending Shay Given the wrong way. A huge sense of relief engulfed Goodison Park. The lead was doubled soon after. Baines delivered a crisp ball into the box for Fellaini to score his first goal in Royal Blue. It was nice to see the Belgian international smile for the first time since arriving, we can only hope the goal will act as a springboard for greater things to come.
Newcastle rallied but Everton seemed to have weathered the storm. On the stroke of half time however, Steven Taylor rose highest at the back post following a deep cross and gave Newcastle something to cling onto. A bitter pill to swallow, the goal effectively ruined an otherwise spotless first half performance.
Damien Duff - unfortunately now a shadow of his former self - silenced Goodison Park ninety seconds after the restart, finishing well from a low cross. If the atmosphere had been subdued beforehand, the tensions now rose alarmingly.
Everton huffed and puffed but never really looked as if they were going to score. Saha and Yakubu were ineffective throughout - although the former needs time and games to regain match fitness.
The final whistle was greeted with a round of boos from the disgruntled, dissatisfied, and frankly drained Everton supporters. Whether pro or anti Moyes, the buck stops with him. What has happened to our defence? Howard no longer seems to inspire any confidence. Why? Joleon Lescott has gone from cultured footballer to absolute amateur. Why?
So many questions with so few answers, things have to improve. With Manchester United and Arsenal on the horizon, the international break will hopefully allow us to address the serious issues within our team. Otherwise, I fear for the worst. Keep the faith but most importantly keep believing, we’re going to have to....discuss this on the forums
