7. Diniyar Bilyaletdinov
Date of Birth: February 27, 1985
Clubs: Lokomotiv Moscow, Everton
Position: Left/right midfielder
Nationality: Russian
Finest Everton moment: The last-gasp winner against Portsmouth on the last day of the 2009/10 season.
Shortly after receiving in excess of £20 million for Joleon Lescott in the summer of 2009, Moyes signed Bilyaletdinov from the Russian league for a fee in the region of £10 million. Having watched YouTube videos of him, Evertonians waited with baited breath for his debut, which properly came against AEK Athens in the Europa League (although he appeared for the dying moments of the Wigan game a few days earlier). And they weren’t disappointed. Bilyaletdinov had a part to play in the first three goals on the night and was taken off to a standing ovation around the hour mark.
Since then, however, his Everton career has not gone the way some hoped. He still notched up an impressive seven goals in his debut season, some of which were beautifully executed, but at times he seemed to lack confidence and some games would pass him by. Big things are expected of the Russian wide player next season as he clearly has the ability to make it at the club.
