Cahill’s goal not enough as Australia go out
Tim Cahill scored a trademark header for Australia this evening against Serbia but despite helping his country win their game, he wasn’t able to send them through to the round of 16.
A further goal from Brett Holman helped the Australians to a 2-1 win, but the Soccer-Roos go out on goal difference to Ghana, who lost to Germany to finish second in the group to the Germans who will now face England.
Luke Wilkshire had fired a long pass from the right side of the Australian defense and Cahill rose in typical fashion to head home from 18 yards, but it wasn’t enough to see them through.
Cahill was sent off controversially in the first game of the group against Germany, and missed the Ghana game, but he will be pleased to have got a goal as he now prepares himself for Everton‘s tour of Australia next month.
