Dominant Everton beaten at Villa
Aston Villa 1 (1) – (0) 0 Everton
Everton dominated today’s game at Villa Park but ended up coming away without a point as an early Luke Young goal proved to be decisive.
The Blues enjoyed vast periods of dominance earning over 15 corners in the course of the game, but a slip by Marouane Fellaini allowed Ashley Young to play a defense-splitting pass through to the right back who slotted past Tim Howard with ease on nine minutes.
Everton very nearly came back into the game instantly when Steven Pienaar looped a curling shot onto the bar when he’d done everything else right, and in the second half Louis Saha saw a shot saved at close range by Brad Friedel.
That save followed a fantastic double save from Tim Howard at the other end when Ashley Young looked destined to score.
Young Jack Rodwell started the game, but limped off midway through the second half to give Seamus Coleman a chance on the right, and Tony Hibbert continued to develop the attacking side of his game in support of both young players when they were on the pitch.
Villa, however, weathered the continuous Everton onslaught, and caretaker boss Kevin MacDonald will be relieved to get three points. David Moyes, by contrast, will be left scratching his head wondering what his side need to do to get the Premier League campaign into winning ways.
