Everton ran out winners over Chilean visitors Everton tonight at Goodison Park as the pre-season campaign runs into it’s final leg this week before the real action starts in 10 days’ time.

Players celebrate Beckford's goalThe Blues welcomed their Chilean counterparts for a one-off friendly between Everton and the club formed after the Goodison club visited South America in 1909, and showed them that parents always know best.

Having been Chilean champions two years ago, the visitors proved to be stalwart defenders, but mirrored a criticism often leveled at their hosts in recent times by lacking any real guile going forward.

From then on Everton were in control (the English Everton, that is!) and when Diniyar Bilyaletdinov smashed home a corner headed down to him by Marouane Fellaini, it was all over bar the singing.

Referee Mark Halsey received a warm reception from the crowd, and every Chilean chance or substitution was applauded loudly.  The two sets of fans even joined in each others’ singing, with the Chileans beating their drum and the whole stadium chanting “Everton!”
