In a continuation of my interviews with opposing fans, here are the views of Manchester United fan Martin Hicks on Sunday’s game, David Moyes and where he thinks both sides will finish the season, writes David Martin.
1: How do you feel United are performing this season and what are your hopes and expectations for them? Where do you think you will finish?
We are far more consistent than last season, but still haven’t hit top form. Hope to win the league & go far in FA Cup
& Champions League. Strongly believe we will win the league.
2: How long do you think Ferguson will continue on for? Do you think David Moyes is a genuine contender to replace him and how would you feel if he did?
At least one more season. Can see him keep going til he wins 1 more Champions League or dies trying. I do see Moyes as a strong candidate to replace him & would be delighted if it were to happen.
3: Who would you consider the player Everton should consider the biggest threat on Sunday?
Tough call between Rooney
& Van Persie. Both seem ravenous for goals & trophies.
4: How do you think United will approach the game? Will there be any changes in personnel or approach to combat Everton?
I think we’ll throw the kitchen sink at you. I expect high work-rate players like Cleverley, Welbeck & Kagawa to feature given your work rate & us to have half an eye on Madrid on wednesday.
5: Which Everton players worry you?
6: What result do you predict?
United win by a 1 goal margin in a reasonably high scoring game.
7: How do you think Everton are performing and where do you think they will finish?
Everton continue impress me this season. Not so defensively tight of late, but overall unlucky not to have more points so far. At least 5th, tipped you for 4th at the start of the season, can still see it happening give Chelski’s erratic form.
8: What do you think United’s weaknesses are?
We can be vulnerable to good crosses into the box & sometimes midfield too easy to open up.
9: What are United’s strengths?
Vast attacking options, overall strength in depth, never say die will to win, work rate & team ethic, De Gea’s shot stopping, wise old heads like Carrick, Rio, Vidic and of course Scholes & Giggs.
10: What do you perceive to be Everton’s weaknesses?
Uncharacteristically leaky at the back lately, not always clinical in front of goal.
11: And Everton’s strengths?
Great work rate & team ethic, strong pressing & closing down of opposition, a lot of pace & quality passing in midfield going forward, David Moyes!
It’s nice to see another opposing fan having a high opinion of Everton and how we play. You can follow Martin on twitter @Red_Devil_Marv unless his results prediction is right in which case you may not want to!
