Everton’s Phil Jagielka and Seamus Coleman have been ruled out of Wednesday evening’s Merseyside derby at Anfield.
The defensive pair picked up hamstring injuries in the recent draws against Watford and Southampton, and will be unavailable for the trip across to Stanley Park.
Manager Roberto Martinez, however, stated that both of his defensive stalwarts may have a chance of featuring in Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United.
And the Blues boss also gave an update on his other injured personnel ahead of the clash with Jurgen Klopp’s in-form side.
“Phil Jagielka and Seamus Coleman will definitely be out of the derby but it is too early to make a final decision before the weekend,” the Spaniard stated.
“At this evening’s session we are going to assess Aaron Lennon, Tom Cleverley and Leighton Baines to have a final decision. They are very close and we will have a better idea if they are back for tomorrow.”
James McCarthy will return to the squad after completing his one-match suspension, while Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku are also expected to be available after suffering knocks a week ago.
