Homegrown talent could be the answer

Short Stories
Defender Darren Dennehy played the whole ninety minutes as Ireland U21's lost 3-1 to Nigeria in the second game of the Under-23 Intercontinental Cup tournament this aftenoon.

Ipswich's Billy Clarke struck for Ireland. Ireland face Iraq in their final game on Tuesday.

Rumours in the Italian media have linked Victor Anichebe with a move to German side Bayer Leverkusen.

With no quotes, and no figures mentioned, this rumour is far-fetched at best, but keep your eye out for Germans in suits at West Derby cashpoints...

Lee Carsley could make a shock move to Birmingham City, according to the Sun.

He will get a two-year deal — double what we are offering.

Article Now its been confirmed by all and sundry that the stadium we are moving to is "mid-level" at best and "a lost opportunity" at worst I think its time to show what I think Nil Satis Nisi Optimum actually means when it comes to stadium design.

The following are 5 designs of architecture that I have done a bit of research into and can honestly say are not only world class but unique and more importantly the best around for design/atmosphere/impact.

Im not suggesting Everton could or should build stadiums like those listed – just pointing out how even the term mid-class is pushing the boat a bit far!

So don’t respond with anything along the lines of ‘yeah, but 3 of them didn’t come off’. I am well aware of this – I am also aware that Everton do not have the money as it stands to build anything of the below quality. Im simply pointing out what world class means and what we should be demanding as fans.

El Templo Mayor

This really is what it looks like – a stadium built INTO a volcano. It holds 45,000 with expansion plans to 55,000. although this is CGI it is currently under construction on target and without alterations! Las Chivas will be playing in it next year (although it has just been pushed back according to some reports) and cost £400 Million to build.
Not bad for a soccer team in what is pretty much a third world country!

All parking and facilities are underground and covered in grass.

The New Anfield

Whether you hate it or not. Whether you hate THEM or not, it doesn’t matter. This is a truly unique stadium and does exactly what it says on the tin – creats a monster of a stand that will rival the atmosphere of any ground in the world.
Whether it is built or not is irrelevant (it was meant to be complete by 2010) the thinking behind it is exactly what one of the biggest clubs in history (and still unfortunatley the biggest club in England – just) needs. That is a unique stadium that people would instantly recognise. Similar to new and old wembley, Old Trafford, the San Siro, The Olympic stadium Munich or the Nou Camp.

It will hold 60,000 and be able to increase that to 75,000

At the last count this stadium also cost around the £400 million mark but seems to have spiraled out of control. More realistic estimates put it at around £650million, but it has been called in while costs are reevalued.

The Kings Dock

We all know the story about this one. £250 million and a 50,000 seater.

NSNO – enough said

Beijing National Aquatics Centre

Holds 17,000 swimming fans and cost between £80 & £110 million – the Chinese government, showing there usual openess, refuse to confirm any true costs.

Its structure is completely unique within archetecture, using twin layers of ETFE to be able to obtain the impressive structural design.

Tampa Bay Rays

Costs £300million and will hold 35,000. This has been posted somewhere before and has us all confused as being in St Petersburg, Russia not St Petersberg, Florida.

Almost certainly wont come off as it’s the equivalent of Derby trying to build an 60,000 seater stadium with retratable roof & pitch and buxom wenches with each season ticket to hold your beer and feed you your scouse pie at half time. I.E Tampa Bay are a poor side that constantly finish at the wrong end of whatever league they are in and probably wont be able to find this much money.

On the premise of this article, your sole reason for wanting to go to Kirkby seems to be that it can be built and 3 of the others couldn't be.

This seems to be the usual standard of the 'yes' voter's argument. It's a ground so we'll have it. No wonder I have zero respect for the lot of you.

you both have missed something...
Im a no voter.

Id only be happy to go to Kirkby if the stadium was world class.
Ive highlighted what i feel world class is.

I wasnt saying we should go to Kirkby because the best stadiums fail, i was saying id go to Kirkby only if we had the very very best stadium.

I think the board should leave if they cant afford to build something of the above quality

Fair point Mick, if we were moving to a quality stadium, then it would obviously be more tempting. There would only be the issue of the location.

Just a couple of points, Three of the stadiums you have used as an example only show the outside so I can't comment on their quality, it's only a case of whether or not you happen to like the look of it.
Kings Dock design was vastly overated, the location was dood, the outside looked good, the inside was not.

The danger is not only that we would move to Kirkby, but the fact that we may move to that ground. Liverpool have tweaked their designs but we've refused to.

The two stadiums that are going to be renown for atmosphere out of them 5 are the New Anfield and El Templo Mayor.

Ive mentioned elsewhere im a bit biased towards kings dock, but its tops for design, impact and location.

The swimming pool will have the same atmosphere as all swimming pools and the baseball stadium will have the same atmosphere as all baseball stadiums.

Again, as i said i wasnt pointing out alternatives to Kirkby, just the gulf between what we are getting and where current stadium design is.

Yeah i see what you're saying Mick and I think that if the stadium designs were far superior to the ones that we've seen so far, then maybe there wouldn't be as many no voters.
