I can think of loads of short books that transferred well to the silver screen:

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Green Mile
Shawshank
Lion, Witch & the Wardrobe

to name but a few.

Green Mile isn't really that short a book.

Argo proves to be yet another hit for Afflek, he is one heck of a film maker.

Onto The Master tonight, I'm expecting big things given how good There Will Be Blood and Magnolia were/

Back from The Master, a very opaque movie, but ultimately brilliant.

Watched The Shining and Chinatown over the last few days.

Couple of great films though I prefer the latter.

Tom Cruise must be one of the most overated actors ever.

As for The Hobbit, all that I can remember from that movie now is the riddle scene. Derek is right, it is very bloated, but so were the LOTR trilogy too.

Tom Cruise is a brilliant actor when in the right role, it's just he mostly appears in crap films.

In Magnolia he gives one of the best performances I've ever seen.
