Moyes said: “So far Shane has done really well in the games and it is terrific for the boy. He has got something and he has a chance. He will certainly make a really good career in the game and we hope it is at Everton.

“The level is going to step up shortly and the more you play, the more people expect from you. In your first couple of games as a youngster people do not expect too much.

“When you stay in the team then the supporters’ and the manager’s eye gets drawn to you. We want him to keep doing things simple and not over-complicate things, and if he keeps playing as well as he has done in the last two games then we will all be happy.

“The decision for me is that I will have Tony Hibbert fit and available, so do I put him in because of his experience, albeit not being a centre half? So we have got that in our mind as well because the games now are really important games.

“We have got to win in the cup to get through and we have games coming up that are against really top teams. We have to decide if Shane is the right one for the job.”

If Duffy had looked out of place than I could accept him bringing Hibbo in for him but Duffy doesn't deserve to be dropped on form.

Hibbert should definitely come in...but only to keep Neville well away!

Moyes is right.

Duffy needs protecting, as much as he needs games. Finding the correct mix is the secret to nurturing the young players.

My own opinion is that if Hibbert is fit, then he should start as Right Back, but its down to the manager. As much as Duffy has done well, he has made mistakes. Some have gone unpunished, and we can be grateful for that, but I trust Moyes to make the right decision.

I hope this doesn't happen - makes no sense playing Hibbo and Johnny at CB if Zamora is playing with respect to high balls being played too.

Also, I thought Duffy was great against Blackburn and did  reasonably well against Villa - if we are going to look to the younger players whilst we can't afford to buy, we need to give them exposure to games if there is any indication at all that they could be decent - a category I reckon Duffy falls in to.

I understand there is a balance to be struck regarding exposure to first team football but surely that is more of an issue when they say have half a season under their belt and potentially burning out - if we can't play him against fulham at home in the cup, when are we going to play him?!

Moyes giving youngsters a chance again, or at least until a senior pro is available to play out of position.  whistle

If Hibbert was a centre back, then Moyes has a point.

But he isn't and he doesn't.

Hibbo played well at CB  a couple of seasons ago ,can't remember exactly when.  Duffy should be played ahead of him though ,or possibly Weir  shock  lol

I can understand why he'd consider it for the city game, but not Fulham at home.
