I kept getting it all night tonight as well.

It's all well and good sitting round finger banging yaself with "l love NSNO" threads if everything works smoothly all the time but what about when things go tits up at the most important times of the year?

The site stayed more stable on this deadline day than any other in the past

The solution to the errors - save for a few instances - was posted earlier in this thread, on Monday.

At some times on Tuesday we had 4,000 people on the site at the same time, with the numbers only falling below 500 for the first time at 1am today (I'm including front pages here as well as forum)

The kind of hardware that can cover those spikes is beyond us and isn't justifiable for one day every six months

In the last three months we've seen visitor numbers rise on a daily level to those which would have comprised a spike in the past, and that spike would have killed the server for hours on end.  By using the solution I posted earlier in this thread, I've been able to access every page I wanted to, and I've been on solidly since about 3pm on Tuesday, except for 3 or 4 periods of about a minute each.

The time will come when we'll need to invest in multiple boxes to cope with daily visitor numbers, but it's not here yet.  Those multiple boxes would probably cope with our spikes now, but the additional cost would only be - just about - covered during January and August, the rest of the time I would be out of pocket paying for redundant equipment.

Having quite a bit of trouble accessing the everton forum. Message keeps coming up saying 'whoops, this page isn't here' or something along those lines.

I think this was also what was causing a lot of issues for people yesterday, but clearing cache every ten minutes isn't too helpful

This is the downside of browsers trying to remember everything for you and trying to be too clever!
