Just something I've been thinking of, I'm not saying that number 7's flop just intersted.

Jelavic
Bilyaletdinov
Bent
Van der Meyde
Alexanderson

That's alls I can name from recent years.

Who was good n who wasn't?

Yeah Graham Stuart. The only decent number 7 in the Premiership era. I always wanted Vinny Samways to succeed though.

Trevor Steven at the top of the pile for me. We will probably never have a better number 7 than him. Damn, Trev on the right, Sheedy on the left.. *eyes mist over*

Wasn't Pat Nevin a 7?

Yeah. He was my favourite player as a kid.  When I was 8 I was mascot for us against Watford in the Rumbelows Cup.  When I was introduced to the players, my Dad went up to Nevin and told him he was my favourite player, so Pat took me under his wing.  While the other plays were getting ready and reading the papers etc, Nevin had a kick about with me in the changies and stayed with me on the pitch during the warm up having a kick around with me. Proper top bloke, and a great number 7

Love that story, Stealth. What a great memory to have. I was so excited when we signed him, he was dynamite at Chelsea with Kerry Dixon and David Speedie. Unfortunately we were a team in decline. I still remember his amazing little lob against United. That was the season we lost to Villa 6-2; bad Sunday that was!

i remember that defeat to villa vividly, my great aunt was visiting the family from afar and as i watched us go 6-0 down on itv live i refused to speak to anyone! we managed to get a couple back (cottee scored i think) late on but the damage was done.
my poor relative must have thought i was a right ignorant shit!
the thing is, that kit we wore (grey and white stripes) is a fave of mine but will always be tainted by villa and david platt and tony daley in particular ripping us to shreds!

Wouldnt say marcus bent was a flop, bought him for small change, sold him for a profit, he did very well on his first season, played the lone striker and we got 4th.
