Yesterdays game was a disappointment to most ... we just expected to turn up and 3 points were ours . Maybe they should have been , it was a game we should have done better but after all the doom and gloom has died down , there were a few positives to take from that game

Firstly , we should haven't have just expected Wigan to lie down , they've took points off Chelsea and Liverpool at the DW this season and don't forget we conceded a freak of a goal and besides that they never really bothered us , Which brings us to the return of Distin , although he didn't look 100% yesterday I think him and Johnny looked solid and commanding and are a great CB partnership .
Too much was made of Neville replacing Cahill but Tim C took a knock and I can see Moyes's thinking .. move Felli further forward to support Straq hoping their height advantage would cause problems ... it never worked and for the last 30 mins he brought Jeli on , although it looked as if the pace of the game surprised him a bit , his movement and running off the ball was good and given a few games he'll fit right in .... Yet again Big Vic shown how good an impact sub he is .. I still wouldn't be too keen on starting him too often , but off the bench his pace and strength is always going to be useful .
Moyes dropped Neville yesterday to play Hibbo .. not many expected that and although Nev came on , it demonstrates who he considers to be our best RB option . Hibbo was given a bit of a torrid time by Beausajour , but I rate the ex Brum player , he scored against us last season for Birmingham and was in the Chilean World Cup squad in 2010 playing 4 games , not a bad buy by Martinez .... but Hibbo rarely gets dominated in games and his crossing has improved a hell of a lot
The biggest thing to take from yesterday was the performance of Steven Pienaar , he looked like he'd never been away and despite him playing little over the last 12 months his energy and drive was excellent .. We were shown yesterday how much we missed him and if he'd been available from the start of the season I'm certain we'd be much further up the table . A couple of times the link with Bainsey was back and he looked as if he was getting forward a bit more than lately ..

Not a great game in awful conditions on a horrible pitch but I seen enough there to suggest we will be seeing a much better Everton from now on . Don't forget we've got the return of Rodwell , Ossie , Seamus and Jags to come...and I still think Drenthe will play a part before the end of the season .. possibly when Donovan returns to the USA ? Showing him that he isn't just going to walk into the team is not going to do him any harm and if he pulls his finger out next time he plays and takes a bit of responsibility it might just make him a better player

A win against Wigan could of really kicked us on and built confidence massively. That's why I'm so frustrated about yesterday. The main positives was pienaar. God yes we have missed him he was popping up everywhere, winning free kicks linking up play... Brilliant MOM for me. Jellavic also got his first half an hour out the way. A early goal in his EFC career would be just what is needed next.

I'm a big moyes fan. Never have been part of the get moyes out brigade, and have defended him on here when needs be, but yesterday he got it wrong! He cost us that game..starting eleven aside every decision after that was wrong. Fellani up top off the striker irritates me as much as seeing a Neville/heitinga CM partnership. I can see the logic in it in the past, to maybe cause a bit of havoc whilst getting dominated by a top team.. But yesterday we were playing Wigan! We had Royston sat on the bench, with him pienaar and Donovan behind the striker the quality there could and I believe would of sliced Wigan to bits. Alternately on a day when arsenals young prodigy was ripping Blackburn apart.. Where was our's?? Not even on the bench! That game was made for him second half!

Was just really frustrating while we were not playing well yesterday, we had the quality on the bench and not on it in Barkley's case to up the performance with quality players coming on as the utd's city's and spurs of this world do and take the game too them instead of reverting to a desperate tactic of stick a big man up off the striker.. See if we can knick something!

Anyway rant over. I'm not fickle enough to be wanting moyes out or anything but I hope he learns. Bad day at the office by moyes but....

We have pienaar back... And he looked boss!!

our so-called prodigy if you mean Barkley is not fit. He has had one and a half junior games to see if the fluid on his knee has gone. No wonder he was not on the bench against Wigan. They had to fight hard as they are desperate. Some of ours lacked energy after the City game. One point is fine. Welcome back Piennaar who although lacking match practice was superb. Gibson is easing his way in but his passing is as bad a Neville's. Let us hope it improves.

Positive - Neville was dropped.

Negative - Whoever came off first and whatever the score, Moyes was going to use him as his first sub. Fellaini has been getting back to his best in the middle of the park. We had options, and that substitution was just embarrassing.

I would have liked to see Royston yesterday instead of Neville.  All I can think is that maybe he was a twat in the week or something since the city game?  And Moyes didn't want to reward him with a game?  If he'd left him out of the squad, there'd have been uproar on the forums.

Or he felt the best chance of winning was keeping a clean sheet and didnt want him being a liability by leaving the full back exposed?

He probably wanted to keep the same wide players on who would work up and down the line all game. And by having Fellaini up top instead of Cahill it would have kept the same discipline from the second forward to drop back into midfield whilst still supporting the forward.

Or he could've grew a set for a change. Fired on Jelavic went 4-4-2 and actually had a go before going behind as usual ?

I agree with NMChang that the central partnership looked good. Distin
is well worth another couple of years extension. Also that Pienar played well.
I also thought that Donovan had another intelligent, productive game.

But overall I thought that we lacked class and quality in a number of places. The right back
position needs urgent attention; Gibson is a good signing but we could do with Rodwell or
Barkley finally stepping up; although cahill works really hard we need another quality forward plus
a top right winger to replace Donovan.

I suppose the team is in the same position as in every other season over the last five or six years.
That is, always three quality players away from being a top team.

but dont ever blame moyes, cause lets be honest, in over 9 years, he has never admitted he has got it wrong.
the mans pride is a big stumbling block, so is his dire brand of football and defensive philosophy.

What part of "There are no negatives from yesterdays game" do you not understand?

It was a winning performence, a fluke goal was the difference, thats all there is to it
