A few of the stats for those too lazy to click:

- Everton have conceded just twice in five home league matches.

- The Toffees have won more points from their last four league games (10) than the previous twelve (7).

- Burnley have not scored in five of their last six league outings. They have also not kept a clean sheet in 13 away league encounters.

- The Clarets have won just 2 of 34 away Premier League games.

- Everton last did the double over Burnley back in the title winning season of 1969/70 - but have only encountered the Clarets on three occasions since 2009, winning two and losing the other.

Half of Shog's arse will beat any other full-arsed preview anyday!

They are guaranteed to score.  Thank fuck Big Rom will be back and we have an actual chance to score more than once ourselves.

Want to win, but with little to play for, a defeat to Burnley would probably be the least painful one of the season for me. Still hope and think we'll win like...

I just can't see anything but a win here. Yes, they have much more to play for at the moment but surely our boys are enjoying season best form and will look to keep the direction moving forward.

Loving Pienaar back and we look so much better for it. My only concern is whether Lukaku comes up to scratch or not.

We'll have to be right up for this one as they give 100% and are fighting for their lives. They haven't done badly in the last few games either. Match them for effort and tempo and our class will see us through. Lukaku coming back is also a massive boost.

COYB !

Wanna watch this, but it's so lovely outside, would like to sunbathe in the garden, and won't be able to see the laptop screen properly. So whether to sit in and watch it, or sunbathe and listen to the game on the radio (which I haven't done for about 10 years)?

Why not put some sort of cover over the laptop to block out the sun?

Sunbathe at the half.

Match seems set up for a Mirallas goal, given how hard they have to chase goals/all three points.

With his body shape, there was only one corner Ross was ever putting that in. Easy for the keeper. Anyway, it's happened. We're playing fairly well so far.

Well then Id like answers from our manager as to why someone with Baines record isnt on penalites and someone with Barkleys record is none from 1 now isnt it in the Premier League??
Either way its staggering isnt it?

I don't think any of that matters. It wasn't a lunge, or a studs up challenge, he clearly went for the ball, the intent was clearly to get the ball away and he missed by a fraction. Then his slide took him into Coleman, but there was no intent in the follow through.

If that had been one of ours, we'd be slagging the ref no end.

Makes our day easier anyways so whatever. :)

The real problem is that the rules have been modified. Sending players off early or even booking them isnt liked, the second yellow is harder to get than the first, the Coleman dive (before the penalty last week) 99.99% gets a free kick no matter how obvious the dive is. Sheparding a ball out of play can involve repeated and obvious obstructions. Its bollocks refs are praised for not following the rules and keeping players on the pitch. If its a booking its a booking. Thats a clear as day booking as a first yellow and theres no rule that says the 2nd should be harder to get.

I agree its silly the mentality refs (and fans) have with second yellows, but in all honesty, what would your reaction have been if that had been McCarthy and he got sent off for that exact challenge?

That swipe that Barnes did and missed was nastier (in its intent at least) than what he got booked for. Just seen it on the half time NBC video edit.

Strange. What is going on with Baines. Has he lost his mojo since he missed his first pen?

Might have done/who knows? Reminded of Lukaku jammying that one as well as the Mirallas Incident. Could see Barkley missing that from here and I'm hungover as all fuckery.

Id be mad at the player. Im convinced thats a yellow, even a second 1 with the unwritten rule. Colemans running into 20 yards of space and he misses he with a slide challenge. If that was McCarthy hed be a fucking idiot

At least we have been solid at the back recently. But Burnley played exactly how we would hope a team to play against us. We should have scored quite a few more.

Good results for us today. Breathing down the neck of Palace now with a better gd.

Kone is so poor. He does some good things but his goal threat is practically zero at the moment

That was utter dross.  Very disappointed with us today.  I like to take the positives but there were very few today except claiming a vital 3 puts to cement our position in mid table.

I thought we played well and was pleased with the amount of chances we created just a shame we lacked a finishing touch today.

I have to take this comment view at face value but I'm staggered to read that anyone thought we played 'well' today. I'm genuinely confused that I'm in the minority too. Maybe it's because I didn't eat or drink much today.

That's just football isn't it?

We all watch the same match and come out with several different opinions!

What game were you watching, I thought we played well and were barely troubled bar the chance just after we scored and a 10 min spell near the end where they had the ball but done little

We were a bit shite in the last 20-25 mins, but the rest of the game i thought we were good, against a team fighting for their lives (gave Arsenal and City real problems). Looking at the results the other teams in that position have been getting, i think it was quite impressive how little they troubled us, and we had more than enough chances to get 4 or 5.

I wouldn't say we played well but we were always in control. Didn't feel like we pushed particularly hard for a second goal which could have gotten interesting if Burnley weren't shite. Even with us playing quite conservatively we missed a pen and had a good few chances to put the game away. It wasn't exactly scintillating but it was a decent win.

Yes that's fair that we weren't threatened much ourselves. But they were down to 10 men and one of the poorest teams in the league. We were in some vein of confidence winning 3 out of the last 4 (although I wouldn't say we were in form) yet we were still messing about with the ball too much, very predictable and played in fixed banks with little movement across or between the lines.

Fair enough it's a half full/half empty type thing isn't it? We were awful when the subs came on.

Nice finish by Mirallas today and good news in the after-match that he's happy here. Only positives today really, apart from 3 points.

Agree on the 3 pts, but against a team that hasnt scored for 6 hours with 10 men, at home, big deal.

We should be happy with a clean sheet.  lolol

Against Chelsea away would be. If we hadnt got one today they would deserve shooting. And it would be 1-1.

Your expectations are unrealistic. Leicester battered Swansea today, just watched them. Tough games these at the end of the season, and we breezed it.

Played well in the first half and slowed down in the second against a 10 man Burnley all behind the ball. We appeared determined not to concede and were frustrating going forward and not clinching it with the 2nd goal which would have meant less frayed nerves near the end. Burnley are doing their utmost with a Championship set of players, and they throw in a good bit of fouling to make them difficult opponents. Barkley had a good first half and no one played badly, even Kone who worked but can't shake off the impression he is a Championship class player. A few months ago we might not have won that game.  Not very enjoyable but satisfying none the less.

So why couldnt we batter Swansea ? Or even 10-man Burnley ? Too hard for us ?

That's what we did. No-one is saying there isn't still room for improvement.

Hardly mediocre though was it? Their keeper kept them in the game, ours didn't have to make many if any saves, simple as that

Thought the first half was enjoyable.

After McCarthy's miss we were very dull.

With the players we had on the pitch they like running with the ball. Without a player who can dictate the tempo of our passing/movement by being able to suddenly lift it, playing the slow passing is always going to make us poorer.

In a mediocre season you look for the positives. We looked very comfortable yesterday, rare we have been able to say that.

I think the frustrations for some is that there is a theme of letting games drift without pressing hard enough to kill the game off. Yes we had a few chances, yes we kept a clean sheet without really being under pressure and won the game so that's fine and we'd all have taken that a few more times this season.

However it is just the slowness of the play when we are winning, not really pressing hard enough and when you are against a team as bad as they are, at home, against 10 men, no pressure on us and off the back of some wins that was a chance to be expressive and go for a good win that gets people believing that things won't be as dull next season and we didn't take it, let the game drift out to a dull performance with a fairly comfortable win, albeit you are always running the risk of a punt down the middle, set piece or mistake costing you.

A wins a win, it was comfortable and it was good to see Barry playing very well again, the defensive unit looking so much better with those players in it, and Lennon again showing he is a good fit. However what I wanted after Kiev was some solid hard fought wins to see us safe which we did, once we did that to be a bit more expansive and give us the blue print that next season won't see some of the turgid displays on a regular basis next year, yesterday was the perfect chance but it just highlighted a lot of the problems we have had going forward for months.

It's hard to be critical of things after a win without being criticised for being negative. What I don't want is if we creep up to 9th, and if we do we will have finished the season with some very good results, but if we do I don't want how bad the first 7-8 months of the season were to be swept under the carpet as things are ok now when there are some big things that need sorting out in my opinion to make sure next season is back to what we should be doing and yesterday didn't inspire me to being comfortable.

a wins a win, but that was very poor yesterday, we never once looked like we had the extra man in the 2nd half, we seemed clueless as to how to break them down at times, barkley was dreadful again, these are the games he should be standing out in but he was anonymous for most of it, mirallas was lucky not to see red, we were comfortable but i expect a lot more versus a poor side with only 10 men. kone is one of the worst players ive ever seen in an everton shirt.

I think that a lot of the frustration with yesterday's game was that at 1-0 up, playing against 10 men, we should be getting a second and third goal and really killing the game off. At 1-0, one silly mistake can drop us two valuable points. So many times this season, we have made mistakes at the back and threw points away. Thankfully we were comfortable and came.away withthree points, but a couple of months ago, we'd have probably drawn/lost that game.

I only saw the highlights so I can't really give an opinion on the full game, but Aaron Lennon is a huge plus. I think we should sign him as soon as possible.
