Can he play left back ? Seriously though how many young centre halves do we need, we have a plethora of them.

Echo have been saying weve been scouting him for a while, for 4million in the Holgate & Stones bracket - probably be another to make the breakthrough at PL level - plays at England u20 and already nearly 70 appearances for Charlton

Only Holgate anywhere near the team though.

The kind of signing I love us making. Cheap potential, won't work all the time but when it does it is excellent.

Nathangelo Markelo only other one I can think who was a center half.

Don't rate Pennington being honest.

Im not sure if Feeney is a full back or not, could be wrong.

Is Matty Foulds even still alive? A true reminder of Martinez poor recruitment amongst other things.

Do you think he's like Rambo, unaware of the outside world, stalking the terraces, and living off half eaten burgers...

Honestly never seen Rambo. Is that what it's about? Is that why Stallone was at goodison?

Yes, that is precisely why Stallone was at Goodison.

To help us find Matthew Pennington.

Gibson is a Left Back and Markelo is a Right Back (I think).

if only we'd managed to scrape a 0-0 win like we did with Chelsea under Sam

that'd be amazing

Hang on a minute? I thought we only had plans to buy older shit players?
I thought we'd stopped buying 'ones for the future'?

Granted, i'm only basing that on the feeling eminating from the Walcott thread. But there people seem adamant that our entire universe has shifted towards buying 40 year olds with no hamstrings.

See sometimes we do agree. Absolutely a draw is much better than a loss

The hamstrings only go once they've spent more than 24 hours in the prescence of James McCarthy

I'm sure we were linked with him in the summer. Seems highly rated with Liverpool and Arsenal also having a sniff.
I think we need to go for these kind of deals. 30 million seems to buy you an average defender these days. You could spend that on 5 of these 4-6 M deals instead. If a couple of them make it you've got a player and covered the cost of the other 3 George Greens.

Gibson is a Left Back and Markelo is a Right Back (I think).

I think Gibson and Markelo are primarily centre backs but can also play at full back. Matty Foulds who is supposed to be a left back seems to be a regular starter at center back in the U23s. Either Unsworth has managed to get the best out of him by switching his position, or we are not that well covered in young center backs.

Love when we do this despite not knowing anything about the player.

These are the type of signings that in the long run can get us up there. Getting in early on young players with big potential years before they're on radars of bigger clubs. If we unearth one or 2 stones or alli's it is worth it.

We've invested a lot in young players recently so all promising for a good time in the new stadium.

Still think we need to get in more from the 20-24 bracket that have that high ceiling of potential. Yes some will work and some won't but we can't compete for top players in prime.

Spurs and Liverpool in recent years have done it well.

*not bashing signings like Walcott sig etc as they have a place too. Sign best players of teams below you or inferior, sign high potential young players before they burst onto scene and sign the occasional back up/fresh start required player at the better teams to see if a new challenge can bring out of them what others didn't use or see.

A lower league club wanted foulds last year and unsworth stepped in and stopped the transfer

NB* according to what I heard

I watch him a lot and follow Charlton a decent amount.

Very good potential, but is only 20 years old. Since players at his position do not really get into their prime until at least age 24, he still has quite a ways to go.

This signing would not help the first team in ANY way, at the moment. CAFC are 6th in League One... and Konsa is not a full time starter there, so no way he would be on the field much here. Another Lookman-styled signing.

It's the kind of signing Wenger would make. Claiming it is a value (which it is) but has zero effect in helping the team NOW. Or even next year.
