Title: Man United V Everton
Post by: Macca77 on September 13, 2017, 04:32:48 PM
Yeah so, its anyone else dreading this, I fear it's going to be horrible.

Surely Koeman will drop Martina and maybe Williams, can't start with 3 at the back here, not a chance

If and when Lukaku scores he better celebrate, none of this solemn "oh that's a pity" bullshit.

He spent years here belittling the club publically when there was no need to I hope he doesn't prentend to be all respectful now he's got his dream move that he's been bleating on about for years, it'd make him look a bigger cunt than ever before.

Come on, really?

Yeah.

We've had people explaining away his public statements for years using the line "he's not an Evertonian like us" or "it's just a job to him", fine that's fair enough but let's not change the tune now.

For at least two years he's been desperate for a move away, again his choice, and gave up with a third of the season to go to protect himself, which effected the teams performances and chances of winning vital games in those seasons. Don't start pretending it mattered to him now. He's got what he wanted, he's just another explayer and we're just another former club.

He spent four years of his career with us. Regardless of his understandable personal ambitions during that time he deserves the respect we give any ex player and if he wants to show a bit of respect back then I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. It's really not that big a deal.

I seem to recall him celebrating each time he scored for us against West Brom. I doubt it would be any different, and who would blame him after scoring his third against us to really celebrate...

Romelu Lukaku struck twice to sink old boys Everton, as Manchester United reclaimed top spot with a convincing 3-0 win on Sunday

It took the Belgian striker just 7 minutes to open the scoring, brushing off Ashley Williams to fire past Jordan Pickford and leave the toffees with an uphill struggle.

David DeGea was rarely troubled all afternoon as Everton surrendered possession and found it difficult to find any attacking fluency, not managing to register a single shot on target in a frustrating day for the blues

More sloppy defending from the visitors was pounced upon in the 38th minute when Lukaku slotted his second of the game to give United a deserved two goal lead at the break.

Tom Davies and Dominic Calvert-Lewin replaced the ineffective Davy Klaassen and Sandro Ramirez at half time but any fightback was cut short when Juan Mata rounded off the scoring 2 minutes after the restart with a simple tap in after a slick United move

It was a miserable afternoon all round for ex Red Devil Wayne Rooney who was fortunate to only receive a yellow card for his late lunge on former United colleague Phil Jones

The toffees now sit in 17th place, with only Crystal Palace, West Ham and Bournemouth below them

It would be very Everton to snatch a 1-0 victory against them.

there is no way at all, we will keep a clean sheet, we invite teams to attack us, not just moves where they have to work hard to break us down. but being camped in our own box, with no outballs... eventually any and every team will score past us.. least under Martinez we had a chance of attacking and scoring.. but all our attacking players are nullified by the pragmatic dutchman..

That the actual Spurs story?

nah, Sir Stealth, knows the future, he could have got in a time machine, and re told us the story, but more like its a logical outcome based on how we have played and set up this year.

i fear man utd,.. i cant see Koeman being able to motivate our team.. it maybe different.. but the players look lost, and look like they dont really care(not all players and going off the last 2 games)

Unfortunately this is going to be a tough old game. They will just replace Pogba with Herrera, so thats not really a loss for them.

We need DCL up top here and Mirallas for the counter attack. Otherwise it will be very difficult to hurt them.

Prediction is 3-0 Lukaku (Sorry it just has it written all over it).

Everytime ive seen Fellaini play or come on for Man Utd, he has been fire, like how he used to be for us, the difference is, Man utd have a squad full of players who are better than Fellaini, we had no one (besides Arteta)

i dont get what these inconsistent quotes are based off. or if its just annoyance that he left us for utd, so he became automatically 'inconsistent'.

He doesn't play well every time he comes on at all. There's some games he's had a mare and not changed it at all.

And no, no sour grapes from me regarding his move.

Davies  Gueye  Schneiderlin  1x10  Lennon
                           1x9

1x10 = Klaassen, Sigurđsson (or Bešić instead)
  1x9 = Rooney, Calvert-Lewin, Ramírez, Niasse

Attacking talent rotting on the bench because throwing them all on doesn't work anyway. Most attacking I'd like to see is 4-4-1-1 in which case add Rooney to the 1x10 option list.

The advantage for us is that opponents can't prepare very well to play us. Normally the opposition would watch videos and work out a game plan for us. But we don't have any game plan or system of play so we need to make the most of that. The element of surprise!

Have to go back to 3 at the back with Holgate WB. We look much beter and solid with that formation than the 4-2-3-1 we have now which has been a shambles.

To be fair as much as we were shite and all over the place, ( who the fuck is our fitness coach btw ) Though Atlanta were brilliant, Man United never played a team half as good as those all the way through the competition last year ). That centre forward of theirs I thought he was Costa on speed and the winger Gomez led us a merry dance all night.

Positives, Vlasic looks like there is a player in there, Holgate and the goalkeeper, oh and we drew the second half. Koeman can still fuck off for the shambolic, disorganised Sunday league football he's serving up right now.

Pack the midfield and pace the fuck out of them.

Or

With how shit we are and how frustrated Rooney must be - I'd be seriously worried about him picking up a card here.

Start the youngers 1st half and have them run and stretch Man U as much as possible in the first half. Then more guile, experience and creativity in the 2nd.

             Pickford                                           1st Half

Hope he just simplifies it a bit.

Play Rooney as 9 and tell him to stay there.  No dropping back to the centre halves to get the ball.  Sig as a 10 and then Lookman/Lennon/Mirallas on the wing.  None of them are great but it's just natural width and should balance the team better.

True though - Rooney has to show better positional discipline.  We really don't need him running everywhere trying to do everything.  If he keeps doing that then he has to come off.  Everyone has to do their own jobs and if they can't then they get dropped and someone else comes in.

agree with this in a sense but the other aspect is that does it really make sense to drop the player who's clearly working the hardest and covering the most ground

maybe there's a way to keep him in and drop someone else more central who isn't performing?

Every time he moves into someone else position though it leaves his one empty. Its why there is a massive gap between our midfield and attack. We cant afford a 'free role' position. That is a luxury. We need the basics

maybe thats the reason or maybe its because Koeman wants the team to be compact and negative and leave DCL or sandro up top alone and defend and try to nick a 1-0 victory which clearly isn't working because the player up top can't hold the ball and our defenders aren't currently up for playing this way....

If he doesn't set us up with width (from attacking players, not full-backs) a central striker, and a no.10, all with positional discipline (or at least with the ability and instruction to interchange positions constructively and fluidly) then I can't be arsed watching.

It's genuinely looked like we are playing with 10 men for the majority of this season (even when, ironically we actually had a man ADVANTAGE against City) especially with that 3 at the back malarkey, when neither of them brings the ball out like Beckenbauer; surely Schneiderlin should be the man to do this, like Barry did so brilliantly in Martinez' first season.

There was a whole load of games near roberto's end that I didn't look forward to, but certainly don't feel as bad going into these games as it did before his final game at Sunderland. Having escaped being sacked after the 4-0 Derby humiliation, then not been sacked after the Leicester game it was beginning to feel like they might not do it and every game felt like was going to be embarrassing or any chink of light might save him which was bad for our future, so that was a much worse time than this.

I don't completely agree with that but I am a Rooney fan. I'm starting to think he could pay up top either alone or with another striker then with Sigurdsson behind. No wingers. 4-3-3 or 3-4-3 and very compact.

Wingers of the bench if we're desperate but we need to be more solid as we are shipping a lot of goals. At the moment we are trying to play all variations of tactics and personnel and not achieving anything.

No fume from me until I see it reported somewhere credible, fake news.

Those saying it doesn't matter what he says, it is not the 'be all and end all' but you would expect a player of 4 seasons to at least have something mildly nice to say on his first return to his previous club, it's very unusual to use a phrase like 'I don't care' when so many of our current squad were his teammates 2 months ago :-\

Not having that at all. In fact, it's that sort of thinking that leads to performances like England vs Iceland where we try and fit him in the team wherever that may be.

Rooney is good at certain things but he's also limited in what he can bring now. I don't want him running back to the edge of the box to pick the ball up.

He's been as bad/ineffective as any of them out there recently. If we can't play him and have him stick to the higher end of the pitch I rather him not be out there.

It's getting really hard getting excited about Everton when we never make really any improvement on the pitch, and when we do we always take two steps back the next season.

As for the game, watch united to come out extremely hard against us. I'm expecting a goal from them in the first 10-15 minutes. They are gonna come out flying against us. If they don't then Jose is stupid. We are so fragile right now.

I think Koeman needs to take a temp step back with the new signings and go back to the more tried and tested from last season. Just to stop the rot really.

I think he needs to bite the bullet and although whilst not ideal these days, Rooney needs to play as the main striker until a time a replacement is bought. Sandro & DCL should be coming off the bench.

Davies should be starting. And if we're playing 4 at the back then we need actual wingers on the pitch.

Koeman clearly bought all these No.10's with the idea they would fill the 3 positions behind the striker. But unfortunately without that striker it just won't work.

Imo his big plan may have to be put on hold as we don't have the right players currently. And certain players are not going to be ready for 12-18 months yet.

This weekend think I'd go 5-3-2

Yeah I know what you mean, it's a real shame isn't it after some of the maybe premature positivity in the summer.

My opinion is that tbh Moshiri, if it is all as it seemed (can't say I'm not worried about the 'no money' rumours) is in typical Everton fashion a year or two too late.

The way the league is now, the over-inflated market for players, the relative strength of our competition in the top 6 all makes for a pretty much insurmountable task, especially inside two years which is where we are now.

I still have hope for progress however, the time frame is just pushed back to 5 years maybe.

I'd go (3-5-2)

                Pickford

        Holgate Keane Jags

Kenny                         Baines

      Davies Gana Sigurdsson

              DCL   Rooney

Width from the wing-backs. Energy and creativity in midfield and 2 strikers to give us a chance to score goals.

Oh, and no Williams or Schneiderlein to stink the place out!

i reckon if Williams plays, he will be responsible for around 75% of Uniteds goals against us.

my team would be, fuck i dont know.. i want to us to set up with 4 at the back, but i dont think we have been solid with that formation, and i doubt that Kenny will be playing right wing back so ;/ it just means we will have no width at all, AGAIN.

just checked the provisional squad.. it has no Kenny in it!!

                        Pickford

           Holgate     Keane   Jagielka
Davies                                             Baines
                 Gana  Klaassen
      Sigurdsson            Lookman

Provisional squad: Pickford, Martina, Keane, Williams, Baines, Schneiderlin, Gueye, Klaassen, Rooney, Sigurdsson, Sandro, Stekelenburg, Jagielka, Holgate, Davies, Mirallas, Lennon, Calvert-Lewin, Vlasic, Robles, Besic, Lookman.

Title: Re: Man United V Everton
Post by: ally2 on September 17, 2017, 07:09:12 PM
I'd play Schneiderlein purely because he's the type of player we really need in a game like this and we have to take a chance that he'll turn up.  He'll have a point to prove hopefully too.  Elsewhere I don't see why we need to have width.  Why is this so important?  We need to control central areas  as more of a priority.  When defending the whole team shifts across anyway.  When attacking, we are hardly going to be throwing players forward down the wings with two targets in the middle to aim for.  If we do that leaves 2 midfielders left to pick up the pieces if we fail to retain the ball, and that's too much of a risk.

And I'd have DCL on for the out ball. Happy with it apart from that.
Sandro and Klassen would have been anonymous so glad they've been dropped. They can get their confidence up by starting at vs. Sunderland.

Still expecting a meek surrender. Apart from anything they've just got far superior players. Lets try to avoid a complete dicking so we don't go into our 'easy' run, in complete and utter shellshock.

Disappointed that Vlasic hasn't even made the bench, thought he'd done quite well in his two appearances. Also a bit of an outlet when someone has a bit of pace and can actually run a bit with the ball, oh well.

Mourinho slagging us for playing 5 at the back and a midfield shield..

Who invented parking the bus Jose ??!

yeah, he's feeling the goal differential heat.  I'm glad I stuck with my 2-nil, in defiance of all common sense.

That's the only type of set-up in which Martina's inclusion is remotely justifiable.

The team is clearly designed to be solid defensively but I'd argue that our recent defensive problems are more down to not being able to make the ball stick in the final third than being poorly organized at the back. So if Sigurdsson/Rooney don't give us an outlet, it'll be more of the same. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Every team also sets up the same as we did against Atlanta.

its like Koeman set out to try and keep the score as low as possible knowing we would lose, no one in midfield to relieve the pressure, no strike force to give our defence a break.. this is Koemans set up, nothing to do with playing defensively at Old Trafford.

No. But you get behind the team when they're playing. OK no one's at the game granted!  But it's really getting my first how the entire fan base is reveling in this. Weak as piss

In fairness I don't think anyone is revelling in it, it's just gallows humour to stave off depression at the same pattern being repeated.

How sad is it that Martina is played in, with acres of space to exploit, but the problem is it's our striker playing him in from the half-way line instead of being getting ready to receive his cross! No one else was anywhere near the attack even after Cuco held the ball up and waited for Rooney!

This system really suits Martina. I hate the way he defends but I can't argue with his pace, which has been a real asset here, and those early crosses can be difficult for the opposition to deal with.

I'd still swerve playing him in a back four but this is promising.

He hasn't got the legs to get up and down (which is beyond essential in a wing-back, even more than a full-back), so he ends up not venturing forward as a precaution.

No not shit at all but haven't seen him do much out of the ordinary tbh

He's been consistently good. Already shown several decisions today that have resulted in the ball not falling to an attacker in our box. Would have been 6-0 or worse against Spurs, Worldy against Stoke..

Keane started well enough but has slid (and gotten worse today) but Jordan has been the main reason our GD isn't in negative double figures.

So yeah, in this dark damp tunnel, he is the ray of light.

He may not have the legs, but our build up is so lethargic.. we just refuse to pass to him, he can cross the ball in from anywhere with much better accuracy and delivery than Martina.. plus we have 2 holding midfielders who can cover Baines when he does venture forwards.

We've had worse halves this season. Davies does bring good energy, and the others seem to respond really well to that. Although we're 1-0 down, I've seen enough bright spots to ease some of my worries. I mean, we'll still be 4th from bottom if it stays like this, but let's see where we are after 10 games.

thats due to the tactics, he's supposed to be the furthest forward, so many times Davies has been in the right back spot defending.
So you saying it's bad him passing back yet he's supposed to be the furthest forward? Where is he supposed to pass?

i dont rate what Martina is doing attacking wise, as even Lennon could do a better job than Martina.. he can attack better than him., has more pace and can actually defend.

better if he didnt drop off to the edge of our box, then players could pass to him, and we could build an attack. rather than him running back, trying to get the ball then passing it back, then being too knackered/out of position to receive the ball in the position we have bought him for.

Tbh I 've only really seen a relatively solid start which is good I spose in comparison.

Think our performance is getting a bit overated, we've done some good stuff but still completey hopeless in the final third, both our chances came from defensive errors on their part

As did theirs really?

It wasn't anything special from us, of course not we are losing. However, there was at least a level of performance and commitment there which we haven't seen for weeks and weeks. It's the end of a really bad run of games for us in which we have failed to perform at a decent level, there's reason to believe we will build some confidence in the weeks ahead.

Yeah. Per the commentators, Evertonians were booing him, which was classless on our part (especially as his past value to the team becomes increasingly apparent), but he had the opportunity to show he is the bigger person, and he certainly failed in that. It really did pain me to see him turn on us like that. Rubbed salt on the wound of losing him and losing our fourth successive game.

6th, 7th, 7th, and 8th, which is only a minor improvement, especially when you consider how far many of the teams around us have progressed since then. Neither Tottenham nor Man City were the forces they are now when we finished sixth. You are also completely ignoring my other points re: young players, the stadium, and a wealthy owner. Your position is untenable. Just walk it back.

Ah, right....so we've declined. As you were.

No I'm not happy with the performances but It takes time for a team to gel, don't just take my word for it, look at how teams have performed in the league after buying lots of players.

If we can't pick up anything against Sunderland, Bournemouth and Limassol then Koeman really needs to go.

If we don't give the ball away so easily all game we actually could have got something from that.

Never seen so many of our passes go straight into the oppositions feet.

Other than that, and a lack of killer instinct in the final third, we actually played well.

yes thats what he said, but he was being boo'd by our fans when he missed the flying scissor kick shot (that Jags cleared) he had a huge smile on his face as he was falling..

yes he didnt say he was being booed during the match, but it was obvious.. banter is banter... if you cant take it dont give it..  but to call him classless and all the other shit, when we did the same to him is the pot calling the kettle shit.

We were sound until Davies came off how bad is Williams the cunt.
And how poor is the manager's tactics ???....awful from RK.

Davies was finished. We were one down, thanks to a worldie-shot. We actually had chances to equalise, the ball possession was ours. Then Williams happens and after that it was "so what"-kinda situation.

We were much better than I expected. Much better. We were actually able to keep utd at bay at OT. Koeman can't be faulted today. Williams & Sigurdsson can be. But there's light at the end of this tunnel and it's not the on coming train. Before Stoke match I predicted our points total at this point to be 4-6. Seriously, I can't remember a team given this tough of start for season. We'll be ok.

But that pass from Williams for their second was one of those where you think he's being paid off by a betting company.  He seemed to be treying to pass the pass directly through a united player.  That doesn't work very often, and isn't wise when you're trying to play out of defence.

what did he say?

How unforgiveably deep our defenders were for the opening goal, and we essentially had a back five all marking and in a line with Lukaku, and that Schneiderlin and Sigurdsson should have got out to Valencia.

Said it was incredibly negative, and that Williams and Jagielka as leaders should be pushing them out and being aggressive.

Also said that having no pace at the back nor the front was going to make it very difficult for us to function in this league.

I think a thing they're missing out in the analysis though is the attacks affect on sitting deep. They simply cant retain it, or put the opposition under any pressure. The balls coming straight back which leads them to sitting deep. Its just awful front to back and I honestly dont think its fixable without further additions

same could be said for the Everton fans who booed him every touch. im sure if they didnt boo him, then his celebrations wouldnt have been the same.

ie. for the assist, he put his finger to his lips and went SHHH, as the Everton fans kept booing him.
they continued to boo, to the point where they booed him during the freekick. then he scored.. then he held his ear out..

he couldnt hear the boos.. thats class to me. the Everton fans are hurt, cos he doesnt play for us no more.. our best striker in the premiership era and we boo him all the way through the match the first time we play against him..

now compare that to man utd fans and Rooney.

Everton fans showed no class or respect.. Lukaku wouldnt have done that if we werent so butt hurt about him leaving.

I am arsed as you put it, because the players who might turn this around are patently not there. A respectable 1-0 defeat would have been regarded as progress by some including the manager. I do not want Everton to sack Koeman, but the next 2 -3 weeks could see him sacked anyway. This side might be capable of  a 0-0 draw against the likes of Palace, but the rest of the league must be confident of getting a result against us. Whoever is to blame is debateable, but Koeman will carry the can as managers always do. Somehow, with this lousy squad he has to keep us within touching distance by January and hope that two good signings will get us up the league by the end.

he couldnt hear the boos.. thats class to me. the Everton fans are hurt, cos he doesnt play for us no more.. our best striker in the premiership era and we boo him all the way through the match the first time we play against him..

now compare that to man utd fans and Rooney.

Everton fans showed no class or respect.. Lukaku wouldnt have done that if we werent so butt hurt about him leaving.

Not really buying that mate. As fans evertonians have a tendency to applaud their own, even when they leave. Okay Rooney being an exeption but Lukaku hasn't been very respectful since he left. If he had the reception would have been different I think. We knew he'd leave one day but it's after you've gone judged how you're remembered.

Baines is never a wing back. He could have played that role 2-3 years ago but now he's a full back and that's it. A decent one still but don't ask him to motor up and down the left hand side all game.

Which gets me back to Koeman and his back 5. How does he ever think we're going to get anything other than well beaten playing that formation against a good side with this personnel. He seems to think the lucky 1-1 draw against City is validation for it.

Baines is finished, has been for 12 months, and he is not a full back because he can t defend as lukukus goal shows went to sleep, should have been replaced long since same as jags.

Can you imagine how shit our passing from the back would be if we got rid of Baines? Fucking hell we're already struggling to get it over the half way line with this gang of beer bellies at the back.

And he fell asleep for Rom's goal too. I think he is still capable physically but it could be that his physical efforts are being tamed by the management team seeing as there's no one to replace him. We can't afford to burn him out. That said, I expect payers like him and Jags to lead the line when we're in bad form. It might not be their style but they are senior players and I do expect them to step up to that, along with Rooney (who is)

Lukaku was getting booed when he picked up the ball and getting laughed at when he spoofed his FK.

It was the most obvious goal ever.

Then again, he did the 'shhh' towards the fans after the other goal so it probably is just the general attitude he's had from the fans.

He was never everton. He cares about lukaku only and always will. Don't get why people are upset

No player is ever Everton or anyone else. They are all well paid pros without more than a modicum of loyalty. The fans are loyal, no one else. I think Lukaku was a brilliant player for us and am grateful we had him. Good luck to him in his career.

Watching MOTD.. we actually had some really good chances today.

And most of Utd's were from our sloppy passes.

Never a 4-0 game.

Mick Hucknall looks like a clown.

He looks like a burns victim in a Ronald McDonald wig.

I put something on twitter that may have been of derogatory nature, a lad came back with the reply "he looks like the last survivor of piper alpha"
