-------------------Gibson-----Osman--------------------
-----------Mirallas--------Fellaini------Pienaar--------

Hope Goodison is up for it. The players need a lift. We as supporters can give it. Ask not what your team can do for you but what you can do for your team.

We a point off fourth, not 10. Spurs are inconsistent. We the best 2nd half of the season team. If we go on a little run, 4th is ours.

Chin up. Lets smack Villa tomorrow and move on.

It looks like Moyes doesn't want to play Neville at RB anymore. But with Hibbert and Coleman injured and Gibson back he may be forced to do that?
I wouldn't like to watch Jags at RB and Heitinga anyway..

Just about to say I hope no one comes on here and says any variation of we will smash these cunts or should win by 5 but it appears I'm too late. Feel like everytime we have that attitude we are let down. Anyway we should win this. I'm hoping Vic keeps his place up top as he did a great job in the midweek match.

Anyone know if Stones will be available to be named in the squad? Not as a starter but on the bench.

Based on the prematch interview seems likely that Anichebe will start

This kind of match has banana peel written all over it. Hopefully we'll nick an early goal and see it out strong without letting up. COYB!

Need to be positive as the crowd will be expecting a comfortable win.

It's either quiet or loud grumbles/moans unless we're well on top in these types of games.

I think once he finally gets a goal he will start to look to pass and set up players instead of trying to take on the world to get a goal. He misses a lot of assist opportunities but then again no one has been a clutch finisher so explains why he fancies his luck more times than not.

Here's the thing with creative players (which we lack); they try to take players on & fail a lot, its the ones that work that make the highlight videos. But they're good to have. I think Jelavic has to get used to playing with him & learning when to show & make cuts because with his pace and skill, if the other players aren't moving quickly to adjust it looks like he's going solo. In fact maybe he was hoping for movement so he could lay off to someone else that hasn't materialised resulting in him having to force something. Cristiano Ronaldo's runs get cut down a lot too.

That he did. Hopefully it won't take long before he recaptures that form.

As much as I hate the "like a new signing" statement it still alpplies to him in my mind based on the fact he hasn't been around long and been injured most of that time.

It was only the second or third time I had been in a state of shock at an Everton result. The first time was when the shite beat us 3-1 the season we last won the title. The next time was either this, or when Bradford beat us 3-1 in the League Cup. I was so embarrassed. Sad thing is, I've kind of got used to being twatted over the years.

That was a vividly bad Sunday; They had a good emerging side at the time (Platt, Daley et al) and we were seriously on the slide.

Always hated Villa fans and their " Who are ya?" mentality.

They were even more annoying under the tutelage of the charlatan O'Neill and the cut and thrust of the hateful Ashley Young.

I just figured out how to use the VCR. I was 9. We had a family wedding so I recorded it. Kept telling everyone not to tell me the result. Went home all excited to watc us as very few Everton games were shown live back then.

My dad still laughs at how sad I was that week

Was that a rare match on the telly? I seem to remember coming back from a Durham Wasps game and dad accidentally left the telly on when I got in (was recording it iirc).

Think I had a Michael Scott reaction in the middle of the living room.

Hopefully Fellaini will stay in CM, we looked very comfortable against WBA with him in there.

If Gibson is fully fit then start him alongside Fellaini, Mirallas looked rusty last game but I'm sure he'll improve.
I just don't want to see him start in midfield, at RB yes.

Jelavic could start, he might play well against Villa as their defence is poor, but Moyes has a difficult decision to make as Anichebe has been very good recently.

Could be 2 forced subs in the making.

God, Heitinga is the worst CB Ive seen play for us.

Moyes is fucking this up for us, and he has the cheek to hold us to ransom

I did apologise to you earlier in this thread. Heitinga is really shit.

Moyes needs to shoulder the blame for playing Heitinga against what we knew was going to be a pacy and powerful attacking lineup.

I understand Neville is slow as anything but at least have Jags and Distin in the middle together.

Other than that we are just a bit off the pace and struggling to break them down. Anichebe the standout performer so far.

Generally playing well in attack, yes, and when we have possession. Problem is that we've made two mistakes, and got caught on both of them.

Just seen the goals for the first time. Was reading what I thought was massive overreaction to Heitinga, but fuck me that first goal was absolutely disgraceful defending.

Second was too much of a melee for me to catch anything on the replay but wow, that first one. Would be offensive to call it Championship defending.

Spot on, yes it is frustrating but we are miles better than these. They have a couple of dangerous players up front but you can see them conceding any number of goals if we actually aim for the goal!

i agree, we aren't playing badly....but villa still look the most likely to score.

also have to agree with binning heitinga. seriously off-form.

if we can sort out our defence, we're still not out of this (obviously).

I think so too. The defence are a bit disjointed though. I think we need to consider all the fouls they are commiting. 12 in the first half. The referee has been quite weak. Two poor goals conceded. We now need to show we are worth that 4th place?

Obviously, defensively awful but we are in complete control of the midfield.  Just need the ball to drop right and a good finish from a striker or midfielder.

You cant possibly give away 3 cheap goals and expect anything. I suppose a point is better than a kick in the teeth, we keep ahead of Arsenal. At least for another week.

What a wasted opportunity though, could have been sat in 4th place 3 pts ahead of Arsenal still.

Villa played well myself. ( 3 shots 3 goals aside) Top 4 is out of the question with are away fixtures we have

Everytime we have a chance to cement are place right in the thick of the CL spots and to put pressure on others we fail!.

That's whats gonna cost us making the CL IMO, not being able to capitalise when others slip up!. We could of been right on Chelsea's tails tonight!.

And the board and Kenwright want to fuck off aswell, giving Moyesy money to late in window to do anything!. Today showed we needed someone like Fer or a midfielder of decent quality atleast as Ossie looked a shadow of the player he was in the earlier part of the season.

We look tired and a lack of decent squad depth is gonna cost us a serious chance of CL!.

Think this is what is the most frustrating thing about this season. Its not like we're struggling to get 4th spot because the other teams around us are playing well and being consistent. Its because we've bottled it far too often when we've had the chance to give ourselves some breathing space. We're our own worst enemy.

Yeah, but 2nd half Heitinga went off and Jags went up against Benteke and knew how to play him and dealt with him alot better!.

Thing with Heitinga, with every big, physical CF, he feels the need to go toe to toe with em with aggression and get tight and be physical and he just isnt big enough and cant deal with em!.

Benteke today, Ameobi the other month, Carlton Cole before that, and the later 2 are shite!.

Jags should of been switched to CB from the start cos atleast he knows how to play certain strikers, he's got some brains about him and knows he cant physically match these types of CF but he knows how to defend against em!.

The only good part about today is hopefully it'll smash Villa's confidence. They must be gutted to be 3-1 up and to even nearly lose it in the end.

Had Moyes read my post before the match and acted on it, we'd probably have 3 points in the bag. As far as I'm concerned, we only have two first team central defenders now.

he hasn't offered much at all, yet.

i like the way that he's confident enough to go on a run, and take players on, but he needs to learn to get his head up more.  other players are often better placed than him for a shot, but he rarely sees them.

Heitinger should now only be used in an emergency, and today wasn't an emergency.I can't remember who posted on here a while ago,i think it was either Si or Ram that said he's a fraud, and that's what he is.He came here with this hard man image .and the fact is the opposite, any striker with a physical presence pisses all over him.I hate slagging our players off,but i hope that's the last we've seen of him in blue shirt.

The thing with Heitinga is you can't become that bad a player out of nowhere, it has to be a confidence issue.  I have never seen a player deteriorate so quickly.

I've never seen us give up 3 goals as cheap as that in a long long time. Good job Fellaini pulled us out the shit.

Thought once again going forward we were pretty good, defensively we were woeful though. Need to sort it out before we go to United next weekend.

Not defending Heitinga but on both crosses hes massively exposed by Baines being to far up the pitch. If hes in his correct posistion then the cross doesn't get in the box.

He has been found out big time. Any manager worth a wank is going to put a big striker on him and tell him to stick to Heitinga. I had this discussion a while back with JimmyWhack I think it was who who said the CB's will just swap over but any CF is just gonna pin himself to Heitinga cos they know he cannot handle it. Its over for him as a CB in this league. He cant cut it physically.

Or just stick with the best central defensive partnership at all times. By moving Jagielka to right back we are creating two issues: a weaker central defence and someone out of position at right back. Should have been Neville there today with Coleman and Hibbo both injured. At least then there is an experienced right back and our first choice central defensive pairing.

Heitinga was awful today, he had around 8 or 9 others who were trying to push him for worst player in the blue shirt though

Benteke was made to look twice as good as Messi at times today by our poor performances

Moyes should have played Neville right back, unless he was carrying an injury

We should of won, we almost lost. I love this game. We level 4th, 3 points off Chelsea who just lost Ba for a good while.

Even if West Brom draw with Spurs we good. We still play Spurs which will be massive. Our never say die attitude to come back from nowhere and get points is amazing.

People can be disappointed but if Spurs lose by more than 2 goals, we 4th.

Onwards and upwards Everton.

Did well to rescue a point but we need to be winning games like these, or expect us to fall away especially without the depth in our squad. As an emergency without Neville and Coleman, I would have played Heit at RB he's better on the ball than Jags and Jags is much more consistent centrally!  :bonk:

losing 3-1, Moyes makes 2 changes and we get back to 3-3. Bad decision to persist with Heitinga at centre back and jags right back from the start though

also lets give him credit where its due, Naismith was brilliant for those 2mins he was on.didnt lose the ball (I think) and he won the ball back on one occassion. Baby steps but he is improving!

Yeah I'd probably have thought shifting the danger out wide might have been better; but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a better performance from someone of Jonny's level.

Good comeback but ffs we made Villa look like top 6 at times, I don't usually advocate dropping players but Heitinga needs it after that today, either play Neville at RB v United or gamble and give Stones his debut and restore Jags to the centre where he belongs. Glad to see Gibson and Mirallas come through unscathed again, having them back is going to be key in the run in

That Benteke is going to be special

Yet there was someone on here who thought he was shit.
Scoring four goals in the City of Liverpool in one season is some achievement.

I wonder what is wrong with John Heitinga, mostly defenders get better with age, they lose some pace, but win in insight and anticipation. Is it just lack of form?

We were fortunate in a way to get a draw, but we should have won this one, with all the difficult away matches to come.
