You just about beat me to it making this thread.

0-0 methinks. They'll pack the defence and we won't be able to break them down

Can see us nicking it 0-1. They defend well at home, but don't score many. Fingers crossed eh?!

Blackburn 0 - 0 Everton
Everton 2 - 1 Fulham
Stoke 1 - 1 Everton
Everton 3 - 0 Portsmouth

That's how I think our remaining matches will go, find it difficult to care anymore.

I'm with Vermillion. Dont think we'll lost any but wont win either away game. Also finding it difficult to be arsed about these games!

Hibbert to score 8, Carlo Nash the other.

It doesn't matter; the season's over.

Not so if we win our last 4 and Villa lose two and draw one of their remaining games we finish 7th. :) Stranger things have happened at sea.

We are going to 2 of the hardest away grounds this season and have a tough home game with Fulham and Portsmouth.

Villa have Birmingham, Hull, Portsmouth, City and Blackburn.

I'd be very suprised if they didn't win at least 3 of those.

0-2 to us, Saha with the double.

That's my optimistic head. Realist head is going for a snore draw; 0-0.

In reality i'd like us to win 2-0. but the thing is my dad is going.. 27 years... 33 games away, never seen us win in the leauge. so on that case. 0-0 snore draw

Seriously? A team that has only lost two home games all season and have held Chelsea and Man Utd to draws? We'll be lucky to score one.

It'll go one of two ways.

We'll either play like we used to when we couldn't be arsed with the rest of the season, or with the pressure off, we'll actually play well and win.

Ok on Yobo but Nigeria have some decent strikers and Yak hasn't been up to scratch, Not familiar with the dutch team but I always thought Heitinga was more of a squad player for them?

He has like over 50 caps at the age of 26, so surely not? I thought he was the first choice RB.

I'm probably wrong then, I'll include Heitinga in that list.

But there are players (Yakubu, Baines, Arteta etc.) who still have a lot to play for.

Baines deserves a spot, but it's out of his hands. He couldn't have been doing much better. Arteta has no chance, as usual. Trust me though, the Yak will be going. The only other strikers they really have are Kanu and Martins. Martins is their main man now, but Kanu is past it. but even still, they took all 3 to the ACN. Even a Yak in poor form is good enough for Nigeria.

I'm sure he probably will too, just pointing out that he has no divine right to be in the squad.

I'd wait for the opinion of fast lane on Heitinga, but I'm 75% sure he'll be starting in the World Cup, given the season he's had. He was on the fringes when he came to Everton, this season can't have done any harm.
Title: Re: Blackburn v Everton
Post by: Thom on April 17, 2010, 04:24:56 AM
Fast Lane has stated that Heitinga has started as centre back in the last few Dutch international matches, so I think it's almost certain that he'll be starting for them at the World Cup.

Yakubu WILL go too. Nigeria have Kanu, Martins, Obasi and Odemwingie and, seeing as Kanu is getting on, then that's Nigeria's five strikers that they'll take.

Always been his biggest weakness for me. He is a big guy but he doesn't play like it on corners. It usually means more pressure on us and today has lead to a lot of scrambles in the box.

Decent half. Outstanding opening ten minutes before Blackburn came back into it. We're struggling with their set pieces too. Saha has to come off now. He's not looked 100% fit since the 20 minue mark, and I can't see him staying on after that challenge.

Oh, and those two breakaways at the end of the half were fucking awful. 4 on 3 and Bily with the wrong ball twice.

Decent enough performance in general, but we're just all over the place when it comes to defending high balls in to the area and they're exploiting it.  I can't see us keeping a clean sheet if things stay like they are, so we definitely need to make another one of our own chances count.

They are, but dangerous in the air, where we look vulnerable.
We should be beating them easily, but we're not.

And lucky to have our goal-scorer on the pitch.
That really was foolish of him.

Our defensive headache has bugger all to do with Hibbert. Nev is not defending the center, and both he and our 2 center backs aren't defending the edge of the box. Howard is not commanding his area with any authority, and is a liability today if he doesn't sort his head out. We defend far too deeply, and after a season of doing it constantly, I wonder if it will improve as it seems to be coached.

Yeah since Neville came back from injury he has lost his main plus against Hibbert which was his better ability getting forward. And defensively we know Hibbert is usually pretty sound.

Still I'd rather be seeing Coleman get a game in the hope we could *gasp* have both attacking/defensive qualities in a RB.

This was the problem earlier this season when we kept on conceding from deflections as there too many bodies too close to the goal.

Being Hibbo's understudy might allow him to develop the necessary defensive attributes to his game. Combine that with his attacking threat and he could be the best RB we've had for years.

How do we Coleman can't defend already? There hasn't been anything shown by him to say he is particularly weak in that area. Its the absence of playing time that make people fill the void and assume he can't defend...because if he can then why isn't Moyes playing him? Is it that he can't defend or more that he seemingly has to play our captain? Hibbert is showing today that he could well be a better shout than Neville even without adding much to our attacking game. And to be fair to Hibbert he was showing improvement in that area before he was dropped at the start of the season for Heitinga at RB.

The only game for me Coleman has looked suspect in was against Benfica when he was playing out of position.

Sell him from a position we have plenty of cover for (ie we have 3 right backs) and put the money towards an area of the pitch we have no cover for ie right midfield.

Not sure what to make of that performance to be honest....

Going forward we were good, but defensively that was a really worrying performance.  We deserved the win in the end but we made it very hard for ourselves.

I thought Yakubu and Anichebe were both excellent when they came on.

When that second goal from Blackburn went in, my thoughts turned to doom and gloom at the notion of yet another draw when we had the lead. But then Yak, showing utter brilliance in penetrating their defense, connected with our favorite Aussie and finally gave us all three points! I know it wasn't our best game, and we probably don't even deserve the win. But I don't care! We finally said, "Enough! This is our game!!!"

By the way, even though he was only on for part of the game, Yakubu easily gets my vote for MoM. He was the one who made the biggest difference in the game.

I think if we'd had Felli in front of the defence we'd have looked a lot better. I'm not too woriied about the defence for next year.

Anichebe looking a real threat now. Far improved from his early years, its like he finally realises the attributes he has.

We played attacking midfielders, and Nev so no wonder we didn't defend too great. We need a long run of clean sheets to get the center backs confident. At the moment, they're poor.
Title: Re: I have to admit...

Only one team played football. We wasted chances and rode our luck at the back, but we were the better team.

Indeed Jamo.  Nice to see fat sam has took just 12 months to turn Blackburn into the new Bolton, fucking awful side to watch, physical and nothing more.  Used to think Pedersen was one of the most under-rated players in the league, now he's just a glorified Rory Delap.

I just think the defence is lacking a little confidence at the moment.  The constantly changing line ups in midfield dont help, stability and consistency in personnel has always been one upside to a small squad.

I think if you take into consideration Blackburns home form since christmas, then todays win for us is even more impressive.

Man U could not win there (0-0), nor did Chelsea(1-1) I think they have lost once since new year to Villa and won every other game at home?

Remember Spurs away a few weeks ago........

That's the thing though.

Donovan misses for three or four yards...it's a disgrace.
Cahill taps it in from two yards...it's expected.

Cahill should not deserve praise because he scored from all of two yards. Donovan should receive criticism for missing from three or four yards, which he duly did.

Let's be honest, both of these players are professional, international footballers and both would be expected to score from there. Granted, Cahill did it, but I won't be doffing my hat anytime soon.
