Dover 0-4 Crystal Palace - FA Cup (Dann x2, Gayle, Doyle)
Crystal Palace 2-1 Tottenham (Sakho)
Burnley 2-3 Crystal Palace (Gayle x2, Puncheon)
Southampton 2-3 Crystal Palace - FA Cup (Chamakh x2, Sanogo)

Everton - Last Five Matches

Hull City 2-0 Everton
Everton 1-1 West Ham - FA Cup (Lukaku)
Everton 1-1 Man City (Naismith)
West Ham 2-2 Everton (Mirallas, Lukaku)
Everton 0-0 West Brom

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace registered four wins in four under Alan Pardew at the weekend with an impressive 3-2 victory away to Southampton in the FA Cup. Their last Premier League match also ended in a 3-2 victory as the Eagles came from 2-0 down away to Burnley to take home all the spoils. Crystal Palace have gained the same amount of points as Everton this season and are only lower in the table on goal difference so a home victory would take them above their opponents. Crystal Palace have come from behind to win in both of their Premier League matches under Pardew after failing to win any match they went behind under the stewardship of Tony Pulis.

Crystal Palace have conceded on average 1.50 goals in premier league home matches this season which is the worst in the league, though they've played one less match than most other teams. Crystal Palace conceded in their last match at Selhurst Park against Tottenham to extend a run of home fixtures without a clean sheet to 7 matches, the longest streak in the Premier League. The Eagles have kept the joint lowest amount of clean sheets (2) in the Premier League this season alongside Stoke City, Leicester City and Sunderland.

Possible Line ups

Everton

Everton have failed to find a win in any of their last 8 matches in all competitions and by the time this match is played, it will have been 47 days since Everton last tasted victory, a 3-1 home win against Queens Park Rangers. Everton kept their first clean sheet in 11 matches as a result of the 0-0 home draw against West Brom in their last Premier League fixture but they've not kept a clean sheet on the road since the reverse fixture against West Brom which came on the 13th September in a 2-0 victory. Everton have lost 5 away matches in a row in the Premier League going into this match and have lost their last two meetings against Crystal Palace 3-2.

Everton's 4m summer signing Muhamed Besic has played more than expected this season due to the injury problems of James McCarthy and he's wasted no time in becoming a cult figure to the Everton supporters. The Bosnian international has a success rate of 69% (25/36) taking on opposition players which is the highest percentage of any player in the squad (With more than 10 take ons). Besic's passing success of 88% is only beaten by Ross Barkley and Phil Jagielka (89%) in the Everton squad but no player has committed more fouls (Per90) in the Everton squad than Besic this season.

Joking aside, I dunno how I'd feel should he get a ban, do we want him in the team for the derby or do we go for the two above...?

Would be interesting to see those two together. The only thing is, that Barry plays better when McCarthy is there and maybe McCarthy plays better with Barry there too. As amazing as McCarthy is, I am not sure he has got the positional sense yet that Barry has. Who knows, I would love to see a McCarthy Besic base in the future but also dont think Barry has been that bad the last couple of games. Although I really disagree with him playing every game regardless of form.

Yes we've really missed McCarthy, but i'd honestly play the 3 of them, McCarthy, Besic and Barry, think it would let the full backs push on without fear and make us a lot more solid.

We went with this away didn't we?

Wasn't the most productive choice (and would have looked limited had Howard not saved from Balotelli) - however that was away.

I'd doubt he'd go with that at home though, especially as one of the wide players will have to be a central player too, unless we shift Lukaku wide (again like we tried away).

Since Martinez became Everton manager, we have only won 2 games in which McCarthy hasn't featured:

1. The QPR game where we won 3-1. QPR were shite but still Bobby Zamora scored.
2. The Carling Cup game vs. Stevenage last season. But even then we only won it during extra time thanks to the Fellaini sub. McCarthy would join the club a few days later.

Not true. He only missed 1 league game last season, but he was suspended when Fulham visited us and we won 4-1.

however i agree that we need him in the team.  :woohoo:

One team will score in under 10 minutes and then be on the back foot for the rest of a dire 80 minutes with about 2 clear chances each, only for Puncheon or Jagielka to equalise in the 92nd-94th minute from a corner or set-piece.

Both managers claim they had the better chances and should have taken them and that it was a hard earned point as "they're a really good side, there's no easy games at this level."

Everyone goes home disappointed.

NSNO blows up.

lol I was thinking that as I posted it. ;D

However, i'm not sure it's a simple case of we can't win without him - given most of our team hasn't been up to standard this term, and he missed only two games last season after he signed.. not a great data set. He's also played in a number of games we've not won this season. Just co-incidence from a stats viewpoint that he's been missing during some of our worst games this season. He might of helped but given it's a lack of forward penetration and random errors by players, the only way he might of changed that would have been if he was playing in place of the player that made the critical mistake in a given game, which seems unlikely given the spread of errors in different positions, and that he would likely have been playing with Barry anyway.

I just hope we get what everyone seems to want, Besic and McCarthy starting together in the DM slots. We've missed his industry certainly, and with Mo growing in confidence, having the covering ability of James coming in to support him might be perfectly timed.

He's an arrogant wanker and will love the oppurtunity to get one over on us again, he'll send his team out full of confidence to attack. That's perfect for us and we'll hit them on the counter today. It's not going to be boring and will be a good game I reckon but we'll beat these today Eddie.

I hope you're right pal. However he's already beat us once this season during one of their shit spells. Just can't see this as being a game where we're going to turn our fortunes around.

Anyway I'll stop now before you go asleep reading this. I've got to scrape the old paint off the facier boards today and should be getting on with it really...especially in this wind. Wonder if I can replace the wooden ones with PVC? That'd be much easier than painting it every few years...especially in this wind. I could just wipe it clean then with various types of household cleaning products. Baby wipes, industrial cleaning wipes, sponge and hot water, wet cloth, wet tea towel, bath towel, old t shirts etc. even the jet wash would probably clean it. Wonder if the jet wash would remove the old paint too? That'd be good. Don't really fancy climbing a ladder today...especially in this wind.

Anyway I'm off to have some warm water and lemon. Not too much mind. Especially in this wind.

If we're going to win today we're going to have to stifle them first 20 and try to quieten the crowd. They're on a run of form now and with Pardew in charge the fans are going to be louder than ever. Could really do without this fixture as the first game back after our break.

I hope McCarthy is fit to play, we're going to need his energy. We've got a better team, especially with Jedinak and Bolasie absent. Will have to watch out for Puncheon and Zaha, but I think our defence looks more capable now.

It all depends what Everton we see. I think if we play like we did against West Ham away then we can win.

As good a line up as we can expect, with a couple of options from the bench. Not on form but certainly on paper that team should easily win today.

As long as the subs bench isn't made of wood, then we don't have to worry about him receiving a splinter which will penetrate deep and have to be surgically removed.

If anyone, like me, cant stand these shite streams anymore, then download KODI (formerly known as XBMC), install the NBC Sports Live Extra plugin, get a VPN on (Im trialling Unblock-US today for free), and hit play on the game you want.

Its great quality, its smooth and its full screen. ;) (The NBC info at the bottom goes away after a right click of the mouse, or a few seconds automatically).

Its great quality, its smooth and its full screen. ;) (The NBC info at the bottom goes away after a right click of the mouse, or a few seconds automatically).

I'll do a full write up tutorial if anyone wants later in the week.

I have it but dont u have to subscribe to NBC?

Anyone care to describe roughly how we played that first half, do we merit being 1-0 up?

Underwhelming, but probably to be expected. They are so open and vulnerable to be opened on the counter, and we've been absolutely abysmal at exploiting, it to a man.

Been nervous from us, people say we should push on and get the second but for a team with such little confidence thats going to be hard, first thing they will be thinking is "dont concede" we seem to be trying difficult balls at time, we seem to be trying to get it forward quicker but some decision making isnt good (understandably)

We are lucky to be ahead, but Martinez will calm them down now and hopefully we play with a little more arrogance and calmness second half. Im pretty happy at the moment.

Palace have had more and better chances. In fact we haven't really had any chances bar a free kick. We look more solid and organised than recently, Robles is commanding his box pretty well.

Bedsides the usual slow sideways passing we've been poor on the ball. Any forward pass is either intercepted or not held up by Lukaku who is robbed of possession every time. Not much urgency going forward, counter attacks are held up to allow palace to get back into their shape.

Basically it hasn't been much different to the past 3 months except we've got a lead to hang onto.

Well credit to Crystal Palace, compared to West Brom the other week at least they are going for it which means they are more likely to be exposed at the back. It's fantastic that we are 1-0 up but we really need to test Speroni more especially as he was at fault for our goal, Robles has already been tested quite a bit but to be fair he has been solid.

Still feels like we've got a couple of "fuck-up" moments within us about to happen and we desperately need to score another goal to take the pressure off - I really can't stand hearing names like Puncheon, Delaney, Gayle and Mutch causing us problems

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown

"I know Everton manager Roberto Martinez mentioned his team as being in relegation trouble and I think they are. They had had one win in 10. Sometimes you have to spell out the real danger you are in. Martinez has done that, and he has good talent in his squad. He is trying to get his players focussed on what is ahead and there has been a reaction today."

Ugly, grinding and gritty win says much more about the character of the players in a dog fight. More Moyes than Martinez 'season one' today, but something we will need to see repeated if we want to climb away from the bottom.

Besic was impressive again, him and a fit McCarthy could be very good together.

Good win! About time we've played with grit. I'm  sure he listened to the likes of Lukaku in Qatar!

If he's prepared to sack off his 'philolosphy' for a while and employ for rigidity or carefulness in live games, I'll have more respect. There's no reason why he can't claw his way but into the people that have lost trust. Long way to go though.

I'd take a draw against RS if it was on offer esp as Sturridge is back!

Ugly win but:

1. We've shown we can grind out results and demonstrate a resolute character.
2. We defended brilliantly, Stones, Coleman, Jagielka and Robles get special mention.
3. McGeady - while frustrating - has been much better and a bit more productive, just needs to stop being so Faddy-esque
4. We fucking got 3pts...
5. ...and Pardew lost!
6. We've broken our little hoodoo against Palace even though Bolasie and Jedinak weren't available
7. We should now be going into the Merseyside Derby with a lot more confidence.
8. A second clean sheet in a row!
9. Robles again very solid, even though many of the saves were "bread-and-butter" ones, at least he's been making them and not cocking up.
10. Lukaku's goal takes him to a double figure tally at last.

Made the decision not to watch a stream today. Went gym first half and decided against watching the second half to see if it would bring some luck. Thankfully it did.

By all accounts we where shite. Think we will improve when mccarthy gets back into the side and one of either pienaar/osman for boosting the hold up play. Think we will stay up now, we need to average less than a point a game for the rest of the season and it will be a disaster if we didn't make that. Don't really want to be speaking that way but this is the reality of how shite this season has been.

Onwards and upwards, let's twat that lot next week. Coyb!

Normally I'd look longer term.

But this was full of effort and a general scrappiness that we just haven't had this season.

We weren't going to go from being shite to suddenly wiping the floor with teams, whatever training we may or may not have done in the past couple of weeks.

This was the type of performance that should have been put in about a month ago.

Yes for me Robles commands his area better than Tim does, but lets see how he does in a very high pressure game next week. Liverpool are playing much better than we are atm, for us to win, Robles will need to give a man of the match performance. Stones has given us a lot more composure at the back. Also a mention for that fantastic off the line clearance from Jags.

If it would have been a new managers first game in charge today and we had done exactly the same we would all be saying we had done exactly what we needed to do . We won and that is all that matters . We have played far better and got fuck all . A derby is a no pressure game as they can go either way no mater what form we are in  and if we lose away to Chelsea then it won't be a disaster . Sadly today was the most important game of the next 3 .

Really don't get this whole Besic over Barry nonsense. The lad looks like he's going to be a really good player but he's nothing positionally yet and that's exactly what Barry is. Add McCarthy to the mix and it's Barry-McCarthy for me - at least for this season, anyway.

Not the most entertaining game of football I've ever seen, in fact we lacked quality throughout most of it, but it was pleasing to grind out 3 points.

Thought Jagielka and Stones were solid today, and Robles played well.

Best thing about today was the attitude and determination to defend well.

If you dont concede you only need one goal to win and that bit of luck can happen..

Moyes had his faults but he knew that the basis of a good team is a solid defensive ability to build on.

As a centre back partnership I assume. Stones played at right back against Palace at Goodison this year with Jags and Distin in the middle. I wonder whether they've ever lost as a centre back duo?

Jagielka was injured during the Palace and Southampton defeats last season and we played three at the back in the Man City defeat.
