Banned for 18 months for breaching gambling rules.

I presume Burnley had a get out clause when they signed him.

Heisenberg thoughts on Lukaku :
If he was English his value would be 10-15.

Guess it's a good day to get the bad news out what with this, Newcastle and West Ham, Moyes and his charge...

Unless of course you're John Terry. Never a good time to see something like that come out.

Rather look back through Barton's old betting slips.

He's spot on in his response about hiw hypocritical it is when you consider how much sports betting surrounds football these days.

He's a knobhead and bet on himself to score first in a match which was a daft thing to do.

There is a bit of a double standards going on too, when Le Tissier placed a bet on the time of the first throw-in in his own game, that was all dismissed as a bit of a laugh. (Which in this case it probably was.)

Betting on yourself scoring the first goal is idiotic but hardly the worst match-fixing crime in the world. There is probably worse happening regularly even in the Premier League.

Not that I feel sorry for Barton, as he's a dick but I do feel he's been hung out to dry because of his reputation.

I reckon he'll be a decent pundit. Not in terms of analysis but saying it how it is, except with longer words than Chris Sutton.

18 months is way too harsh whether you like the lad or not.

He bet on games involving himself and also bet on his team to lose.

You can't be doing that.

He bet on games involving himself and also bet on his team to lose.

If he really did that, that should be an automatic lifetime ban.

But from what I saw, I don't think that is the case.

I think he did but he wasn't in the squad.

I see. That explains why he didn't get an official lifetime ban, though 18 month is effectively that.

I think it's a bit harsh and is probably going on a lot more, just with better hidden accounts. The only 2 bets that he had influence over were the one that he bet he'd score first and one where he bet samaras wouldn't score first. When you see the amounts staked I don't think it's that bad. 15000 bets over 10 years. Average stake 150, so that's 225,000 in 10 years which, considering his wages, isn't that much.

Apparently the FA wanted to ban him for 4 years but Barton cashed out at 18 months.
