Title: Bolton v Everton
Post by: Shogun on January 22, 2013, 10:37:52 PM
FA Cup 4th round
Saturday 26th January
15:00
Should Anichebe start or do we persist with Jelavic hoping he came gain some confidence playing against lesser defenders?
Should Oviedo be played?
Should Mirallas be start the match?

A rest for Baines and Jelavic I think

                    Howard

Neville Jagielka Distin Oviedo

Mirallas Osman Fellaini Pienaar
                  Naismith
                  Anichebe

1-0 win to scrape through

I'd be surprised if Mirallas started given how he looked last night.

Think another sub appearance will be needed before a start is considered.

IF Vic is fit then I'd try he and Jelavic from the start together. Although if that doesn't work...we don't have much of a plan B. Mirallas did look off the pace and unless Coleman makes a miracle recovery I don't think I'd risk him on the wing with Neville. I don't suppose Matthew Kennedy lad is ready for a run out? Might be worth giving one of the youth/reserves a chance. We certainly could use a mobile winger right now...but I've not seen anything of him only heard positive comments.

At least it's another game to try and find some form. Our left side in particular has looked a little out of sorts in the last couple of games.

Sounds about right. Would go with Stealth's team, swapping Mirallas with Hitzlsperger. Mirallas to make another sub appearance.

Pienaar CM  :-\
Title: Re: Bolton v Everton
Post by: Shogun on January 22, 2013, 11:40:12 PM
------------------Howard-------------------
Neville - Jagielka - Distin - Baines--
--------Hitzlsperger - Osman-----------
----Naismith - Fellaini - Oviedo-------
------------------Anichebe-----------------

I think even if Coleman is partially fit enough that he won't be risked as we play West Brom on the following Wednesday.
Hitzlsperger will take up the CM role as I think Moyes will stick with Fellaini in the advanced role.
Moyes seems happy enough to play Oviedo in cup games so I imagine he'll get another start but in Pienaar's place and not Baines'.
Naismith will probably play as I don't think Mirallas will start, again with West Brom match on Wednesday.
Again because of the West Brom match, I don't think Moyes will risk playing both his strikers in this, he'd rather have at least one fresh.

Howard

Hitz osman

Jelavic

Very tricky tie this

Mirrallas will start. Moyes said he would of started if he had some game time for the under 21's.

I would maybe play Naismith behind the Vic, see how he is there.

Gonna miss this match  :(

Disgusted in myself for putting naismith because he is fucking shit, but we have no one else, super kev shouldnt be risked with a start and jelavic needs a kick up the ass and victor deserves the start

Wouldn't surprise me to see Heitinga drafted in, shunting Jags to right back and Neville keeping his place in centre midfield. It would allow Moyes to keep Fellaini behind the front man then.

I wouldn't like to see it myself, but it certainly wouldn't surprise me if he did it.

They are known for being arses with away fans in their stands, stewards really look out for it and throw people out as soon as they spot them even if not doing anything. So keep quiet and play it by ear is my advice!

As Rhys says they're dickheads when it comes to this.

Always seen scuffles breaking out and stewards wading in at the first sign of away fans in the home end.

I'm assuming they'll be extra vigilant knowing we'd have wanted more tickets and that they'll be thousands of empty seats.

Bolton has always been a grim grey place.

You can't really say the word "Bolton" whilst smiling, it just doesn't seem right, and their badge is so lazy, basic and pathetic, just the 4 letters BWFC squeezed into a circle with a naff blue ribbon coming off the end, fuck off.

Everytime I hear bolton I just think of a massive dull grey bolt, simple as that.

On a more positive note, 2-0 us. Jelavic and an own goal.

I think I read somewhere that a Millwall fan got stabbed at Goodison in the mid 70s and they've held a grudge since.

Yeah I'm not bothered about trouble in general but I have seen them get dead wound up if they find an away supporter in the home end.

That thread's full of whoppers who blatantly over exaggerate the "pastings" that they've handed out.

With a massive game against WBA on Wednesday I would go......

                                                     Howard
                        Neville             Jagelkia   Hietinga       Oviedo

                                                 Anichibe

Gueye has been awful this season but can cut in from the right to his left foot, as Osman tucks inside with the overlapping Oviedo...players like Piennar, Baines, Distin need a rest...Jelavic should be dropped.

Everton were probably the poorest they have played all season at Southampton on Monday night, and still got a point.

Toffees boss David Moyes will have been on his players' case all week after that performance and it will be interesting to see if Kevin Mirallas will start and whether Nikica Jelavic will be left out for this one, because he looks like he needs to get his confidence back.

Lawro's prediction: 1-2

He needs a chance for us to find out whether he's actually any cop or not. Also he is a striker if you ask me and not a winger, it's typical of us to sling him out on the left wing and then call him shite, see also Naismith who is a second striker playing in his wrong position on the wing(although he probably is shite granted).

I agree Oviedo should play too.

Rhys posted something about Gueye the other day.

It was a moment in the semi where he had a 60:40 loose ball with Spearing and he didn't even make a challenge where he should have been running away with the ball.

He seems to lack the drive required to make it at the top level.

He's got ability when there's time and space and he always looks the best player in the u21s. Sometimes you get players like that though. It might not even be that he's not trying or applying himself properly; he might not be mentally able to change those things.

Plus he's always knackered after 10 mins.
Title: Re: Bolton v Everton

Not saying he will or he won't just saying that's his position he's not a wide player. As far as I can see if he was up front he wouldn't have the pace but might have the finish, he'd probably do more than the pretty much fuck all (apart from the Sunderland semi last year) up front than shoved out on the wing like a frightened bambi fawn.

Likelihood is he will be sold off to some French club for 500k in the summer anyway!

True,...although when he came on in the derby he seemed like he could not handle the pressure of the game and froze. Magaye could benefit from a lone but the more I think about it, the preference I would have is him over Naismith behind the front man or on the wing. I think he said he sees himself as a No.10 or 9

"right magaye, I know I never play you, and I never show any confidence in you at all, and I know I play you out of position, but I'm going to sling you in against Liverpool in the biggest game of the season'."

"uhhh boss, couldn't I uhhh, just play againzt zomeone not zo..."

"off you pop magaye, don't fuck up or we'll hate you forever and you'll hardly play next season."

Or...he played him the position he has always played for us against sunderland and has his best game yet...then come the semi we didnt have pienaar and drenthe so didnt really have much choice?

Its not that one game, he doesnt have the pace, fitness or grit to make it in england. You can make it with even just 1 of those 3, more likely need 2 but if you havent got any then it isnt the league for you.

I'll be staying up for this, but I don't wanna stay up if it's gonna be postponed!

Can't see Moyes playing Mirallas centrally and Anichebe out wide. Wouldn't make much sense as Mirallas is a wide player and Anichebe better through the middle.

I think it'll very 4-4-2 esque with both Jelavic and Anichebe dropping deep occasionally to pick up the ball or help out in defence.

If it is I think we need to cut our losses with him. Hes not proven to be anything but a nice eye candy distraction for a few games.  Cant afford to carry lame ducks.

I was feeling more confident about getting 4th with Mirallas coming back.

Because his injury is hamstring, his game is all about his fleet footedness and pace. A hamstring injury is the worst type you can get for this sort of thing.

Look at Owen and others who have done their hamstrings, they lose half a yard of pace.

Just fucking gutted as he is such an exciting player.

You have to wonder and question the jobs of the everton medical team, and how on earth are they are giving Mirrallas the go ahead to play if he has done the Hamstring for a third time.

Yeah, you can't go directly to Radio City via their website (at least last I checked) but if you go through the EFC website they allow it. Not sure why, I guess they have extended rights.

Just FYI you should check out TunnelBear, it's a very simple VPN and works well with a lot of UK content.

http://www.tunnelbear.com/ (http://www.tunnelbear.com/)

For instance BBC iplayer. You get a good amount of usage for free, and if send a tweet to get a lot more free (http://www.tunnelbear.com/twitter-promo/ (http://www.tunnelbear.com/twitter-promo/)). Or you can pay a small fee if you really use it a lot.

I'll be honest I don't think he is a RW at all. It's a shame we don't have Coleman down the right as you are asking whoever goes there to do a lot of the running as Neville just isn't going to be as mobile.

We could potentially move Pienaar to the right with Oviedo on the left, but again nobody is really going to overlap like Baines.

I'm just hoping we get a chance for a Baines free kick.

The two things I wanted (aside from a win) was Jelavic and Anichebe to work well and Mirallas to last 90 mins. Not worked out so far :(

Anyone know if its kicking off as much as the commentators are making it sound?

It was kicking off quite bad in the home stand I was in. Obviously myself and quite a few other Everton fans cheered when we scored at the end, then some of the Bolton fans kicked off on two lads. To be fair to the Everton fans some words were said then they just decided to leave, but as they were going down the stairs a Bolton fan from nowhere started fighting with them. Other Bolton fans got involved and one of the Everton fans grabbed one of them and they went flying down the stairs and nearly over the stand to the lower tier. This fat Bolton fan who was being a prick all game had blood all over his head and was in a mess. The Bolton fans started it though and were being nobheads. Looked like a lot of Everton fans were getting kicked out around the stadium as well.

He says on Twitter that he was fired up about the booing when Heitinga came on and that's what it was all about.  Seems to be laughing about it now and putting it down to adrenaline.

Assumed they were booing the sub, not Jelavic.

Yeah, the booing wasn't for Jelavic or Heitinga as such I'm sure but was for taking off an attacker and replacing with a defender.

It's exactly the kind of thing that sums up the fickleness of footy fans really.

From going mental about the sub to being in awe of it, when in actual fact the reactions to both have been OTT!

Or Moyes.

Well, Moyes had a clue at least, as he explained the thinking behind the sub.

To be fair I do think there is logic to his substitutions it's just that the logic isn't exciting or attacking.  He started an attacking lineup which got us nowhere, bizarrely the defensive one somehow got the result.

He didn't try to make it more defensive, on the contrary. He wanted Fellaini further up the pitch but he didn't have any other midfielder left on the bench, so he put on Heitinga and took off the player who was the least likely to score.

You can criticise the fact that he sent out Barkley on loan when our bench is very short on midfielders but the sub itself made perfect sense from his point of view, even if it looked baffling to everyone else.
