I'm going to this so we better win.

Hopefully Drenthe and Rodwell are back for this one. Replace Bilyaletdinov and Neville with those two and I think we'd have enough to beat them.

2-1 to us. Rodwell and a Baines free kick for us, Morison for them

personally i think its the midfield problem as much as strikers as they dont create chances to many defensive minded midfielders in the team at the moment

theres no creativity and theres not the players to do it.

                    Howard

Hibbert   Jagielka Heitinga Baines

Drenthe Fellaini Rodwell Gueye

                      Cahill

                       Saha

If Drenthe is back we'l have these, if not, 1-1 draw or a defeat, one things for certain we will definitely concede so we have to have a go at them.

Hopefully sub Saha off at half time cos he will be having a poor game. Realistically Bily will start in place of Gueye and Coleman instead of Drenthe.

Would love to see at least 2 of Gueye, Vellios, McAleny or Barkley given a chance in this game. We are so stale at the moment, and our brightest moments have come through the kids this term, they deserve a chance.

Thats the team i'd like to see except Hibbert out and Neville in no matter what we think of him ability wise, he an Hibbert are equal but he has an impact to the team as Club Captain i think we need him in the side asap and not in midfield

Drenthe.      Barkley.   Osman

Well Barkley played ( and scored) for the youth team last night in the FA youth cup. Went into extra time so I think that confirms he wont be starting against Norwich!

We shouldn't underestimate a decent Norwich side playing well and with confidence. They have a strong aerial threat up top and will look to cross more often than not.

I think we really need Drenthe back if fit, he adds a real urgency.

Title: Re: everton v norwich city
Post by: EFCdanger on December 15, 2011, 03:26:37 PM
I saw Norwich play a few times last season and they're not a bad side. Very fit and will keep running and chasing all game. Could imagine Saha on form with intelligent movement could cause them trouble but when is he ever consistent?! Would be good to have Drenthe back as well for that spark.

                   Howard
Hibbert   Jags   Hietinga  Baines
Coleman Felli   Rodwell  Drenthe
               Cahill/Barkley
                    Saha

If injuries aren't an issue.

                              saha

Subs: Mucha,Distin,Neville,Osman,Gueye,Vellios ,McAleny

drenthe should be back fit but if not bilyaletdinov will play there

not sure on rodwells fitness but if unfit neville or osman will fill in.

If drenthes fit i'll go 3 1 win.
if not then 1-1 or 0 1 defeat.

Howard

Neville - Jagielka - Distin - Baines

Drenthe - Fellaini - Rodwell - Gueye

Saha - Vellios

Thats my team. 4-4-2 against a team thats not keeping clean sheets, and suits both strikers much better than 4-4-1-1. Drenthe plays best on the right cutting in, so i'd play him there and finally give the secret weapon a chance because he cant do worse than Bily, and i feel Coleman has gone off the boil recently. Give Neville another chance back in his preferal position as Hibbo isn't exactly lighting that position up and had a shocker against Arsenal. And finally get Distin back with Jags. Holt vs Heitinga or Holt vs Distin. I know which pairing fills me with more confidence.

cant keep jonny out  him and jags playing well at the back ,plus jonny likes to go forward and also pass a ball .even jags has  stopped playing  hoof ball since partnership with him.drop saha and ill go for 2-0 saha is just making up the numbers laterly.

i would keep him out, he doesnt even compete for most headers against big strikers, and they dont come bigger than Grant Holt, maybe against Swansea stick him back in there.

Howard,
Coleman, Jags, Distin, Baines
Fellani, Rodwell,
Barkley, Osman, Saha, Drenthe.

Although I am not convinced about Osman, I thought
he played well at Bolton and against Stoke. And Cahill is pants
at the moment.
But I think the partnership of Coleman and Barkley would be an aggressive
choice and might produce a shot on target.

If Hibbert and Neville play, I'd be happy with a draw.

4-4-2 is no more attacking than 4-3-2-1. It's all about the players

3 players behind a lone striker is actually more attacking IMO but you need goals and creativity from them 3. Cahill is providing neither at the moment so he should be benches for this one.

Ideally are best 3 would probably be..
Drenthe Barkley ossie at present.

What were usually seeing at the mo is..
Coleman Cahill Billy

Just looking at that the problem is obvious why were not very creative

Good play by Gueye and Saha. Not much else in the way of positives. I'd understand the opposition to playing youth more if it wasn't the case that every time they come into the side the seem to be a noticeable improvement on what we usually have out there.

I think your being harsh on Norwich if im honest, but what does that say about us then?!!. We had are spell in the first 20 or so minutes but just cant create anything clear cut. for me, Saha and Cahill have been shit, once again!.

For me, Moyes as only got himself to blame for how things are going so far today. I don't mind that he's started Gueye, gone with something different, but why is there no Coleman today, no Barkley or Vellios on the bench?. He's really starting to do my head in with picking his favourites every week even though there old, shit and out of form!.

I'll give Norwich one thing, least they've kept the ball and got themselves in good positions and passages of play to create chances, more than what where doing, and this is from a team that was in league one 2 years ago and virtually have the same side from then!.

Fucking rubbish we are and something as to give. I couldn't give a toss if we pull it back and win tonight, Moyes as to start dropping is favourites or change tactics or just fuck off cos are team at current is garbage!.

I think they look like a very well drilled Championship team. Nothing more.

The fact we are losing to them says more about us than it does about them. They looked organised enough to capitalise on opportunities given to them, and we gave them a stonker (actually two).

Lucky to be 0-1 at HT, could easily have been 0-2.

Its shocking really from a fan perspective.  Our lack of investment, and the stale stink of every transfer window for the last 2 years is starting to bite.us.in.the.ass.

just got some one give me a review so far?

Bright opening 10 minutes. Dont look under any pressure, plenty on the ball, a couple of half chances.

Then they attack for the first time and score.

Then they start playing, a couple of bad decisions and our players veins start showing in their necks.

We resort in last 10 minutes to Baines / Hibbert crosses into Norwich defense with barely an Evertonian in sight of goal.

HT

We have plenty of the ball, do nothing with it, dont look likely to do anything with it. Ive noticed Tim Howard has a strange new look with his facial hair.

Pretty extensive highlights.

Everton-in-name-only 0 - 1 Delia Smith.

Its like THIS is the expected standard we all have to accept nowadays. I hate the fact I seem to have accepted it.

15 shots on target, 13 off and 13 corners. It's hardly a shit performance. That can't be put down to poor strikers or poor tactics. They defend and blocked as if their lives depended on it, and Ruddy had some fantastic saves.

We can all have a moan when we play badly and don't get any shot s on target. But on some days, things just don't fall your way. This was one of those days.

Very few were clear cut chances though, were they? We did do better than we have done of late, but it is so clear that the tactics and personnel are not working and that's what's so frustrating.

I hope that Moyes has seen today that we do have options and that some of the old guard can start to be culled off because they are not the future and they are not performing.

What a crap team selection.

Only DM can understand why Drenthe was not playing from the off?

Why is the bag of shit, Neville, still playing in midfield?

Why is Cahill who has been out of form and did nothing for an hour today still starting?

In addition, can no-one in the team take a decent corner?

When is Hibbert retiring?

4 games lost at home. 2 wins 2 draws. When you consider we almost lost at home to Norwich City, and have lost to Stoke and QPR I don't really think its unreasonable to have a moan.

We can fire off as many shots as we like, the midfield play is insipid (shown as clear as daylight by the contrast when Drenthe came on), the defence looks shaky, and I cant see our strikers providing any goals.

Ruddy made some great saves and got very luck with Drenthe's shot.

I am disappointed with the result but the performance was decent. For me, Neville should be replaced by in the midfield by Osman. Stracq for Cahill and Drenthe on the right.

They're far from Championship quality, as there position suggests, they also deserve a bit of credit for coming and giving it a go right up to the end.

It's this part that is worrying for me though, because it's more or less the story of every game we play against the "lesser" teams.  Sometimes we sneak a win, sometimes we lose, sometimes we get a draw - but we don't turn our performances in to enough points and it's been a problem for a long time now.

i thought he was just average mate, i don't hate the lad i just don't rate him at all, he is terrible on the ball and his defending is getting really poor he isn't closing wingers down anymore and he doesn't win headers enough in the 50/50's, but it isn't all his fault you wonder how he's been coached for the last 10 years plus

Not starting an argument with you here Gash but I disagree.  The goal they scored was due to a double cock-up by Jags, shite header, even worse swipe when the ball came back down.  Holt shouldn't have been in with a sniff.

When we actually had some quality on the pitch, Drenthe ripped through Norwich like butter. They are not a good side. They are organised and play for each other, but they are poor. Acres of space to exploit, which we categorically failed to do.

I wouldnt even say they parked the bus, crosses were coming into their box from the wings in the first half with NO Everton players in the box.

15 shots on goal, and about 8 of them came post Drenthe's arrival in the last 10 minutes. It was far from a decent performance.

I know, I've said it for a while. But on some occasions we haven't looked like scoring. Today we did everything but score.

It's not a good result, but it's not the bad performance some people are making it out to be.

Anyway, you can all blame Blue Phoenix, he's the tit that started the thread gloating at the redshite for drawing at home to Norwich.  :headbang:

Gutted we didn't win in the end,but before Drenthe arrived i just couldn't see the equaliser coming.None of us know how fit Drenthe is but i just wish moyes had thrown him on sooner,he caused carnage when he did come on and probably another 10 mins of him would have done the trick.I also hope we have finaly seen the end of the Cahill/Saha partnership because it's stale, predictable, and simply doesn't work, and with Rodwell fit Neville should be back where he belongs,in the fucking stand.

Just got in from the match.

Thought we did enough to win that one, but same old, same old with the opposition scoring from their first real attack. Drenthe and Stracqualursi changed the match for us and the former has to start against Swansea on Wednesday now.

Was good to see Gueye start and he impressed me with some decent touches and good link up play with Baines. I'd say Cahill and Neville were the only disappointing performances.

I think most of the people who are upset, are because they don't rate Norwich, probably because they haven't watched them. Holt's goal was a superb bit of skill, he also had a header that was excruciatingly close. From very little in terms of opportunities, they have strikers with confidence, who can wrestle a chance from a long ball, with the space vacated by the other team attacking.

I thought we played better than we have in several other games this season. Restricted them to very little and created a lot more chances. While it's frustrating that we have so much possession and chances, but struggle at the business end, we are still doing a lot of good things. We are still applying the pressure and dictating play, we just need a bit more guile and confidence in front of goal.

Drenthe is such an important ingredient for us, oppositions have to change tactics to try and deal with him. He has the pace to beat a man, the ability to fire a dangerous shot at the drop of a hat and the confidence to keep looking to get involved. If he was fully fit today, I think we would have won.

Not long got back , I try to defend Moyes as much as I can from what I see is a lot of unfair criticism but I cannot for the life of me understand why Phil Neville gets on the pitch when Drenthe and Rodwell are fit enough to sit on the bench . .. and I'm afraid that Tim Cahill has just shot  his bolt now , I can't recall a worse performance from him in a blue shirt and I'm really saddened to say that .... However I still cannot believe that we never won that game ... we murdered them .. and as bad as they looked today , they are far from being the worst team in the Prem , Lambert has done a great job for them . Drenthe was lethal when he came on ... but d'you know what , I was made up with Straqu's performance as well , he looked like an old fashioned big number 9 Centre Forward , within seconds of coming on he created a chance and Norwich cacked themselves when the ball went in the air near him ..... not a long term solution to our forward problems but he certainly will give the best of CB's something to think about  .... Roll on January

only went today as a last minute thing due to my uncle not being able to make it. was sat in the top balcony (cracking view from up there but a pain in the arse to get there)

thought we played well and were unlucky not to win it in the end, drenthe was deadly when he come on and straqualursi showed some good touches. on the flip side the goal we conceded was a sucker punch when we were well on top and it showed by the end of the half

sadly i do think its time cahill was phased out from being a regular starter, he's on his worst run of form and it doesn't look like improving. any news why coleman, barkley and velios weren't in the squad today?

Had the same stat showing on the screen inside Goodison, found it odd as I could only recall Ruddy making 1 half decent save.

Technically correct, but technically our first was from Howard in the 3rd minute.

Stats can only tell you so much.

Norwich are one of the worst teams we will play at GP this season, period.

The ball should never have reached Holt, it was keystone cops defending from Jags. Norwich have 2 decent strikers, a very average midfield and a dreadful defence. We made them look far better than they deserve to be rated.

For the first 75 minutes our performance was dreadful. Insipid, predictable and one dimensional would be the words I would use until the last 10 minutes after the introduction of Drenthe. If that performance had been at home to  Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal etc I could understand people viewing the game in a more positive light.

We had 7 shots on goal before Drenthe came in. 7. 1 every 12 minutes. If you just look thru this thread you wont see comments like "we can do this" / "we are doing well" after they scored. It was derivative. I was completely in the dark as to where a single goal was going to come from, it took 1 player to play above average to rip Norwich apart when they showed a bit of class, and guile.

I think the last 10 minutes clouded peoples judgement of our overall performance, where we got the other 8 attempts on goal.

I'm not saying they are top half of the table long term, but they are a dangerous outfit, playing well. Considering how shit they are, they are a fair way up the table. We contained and restricted their threat better than a lot of other teams. They've now scored in 7 of 8 away games, they were never going to be easy.

We were playing some of the best football we have played this season until they scored. Then they tightened up, were more cautious and potentially more dangerous on the break. There were periods of frustration, but we were nearly always on the front foot. I thought, but for a couple of poor performances, the majority of the team played well.

they suited our play down to the ground though. they are not a tight unit they play open  football for us to exploit. We hate it when a team turn up and park the bus in front of their goal, but norwich arent like that. Their forwards are average at best and their defence is weak. Come to think of it their midfield wasnt up to much either.
our play is all about upping the tempo. when we do we are quite decent whicjh is why its usually the last 10 minutes that things get going.
Drenthe needed to come on a lot earlier and be told to run at kyle naughton as he was booked in the 3rd minute. we would likely have got him sent off the way drenthe plays, but like the commentator said on my stream he didnt understand how we hadnt run at naughton since his booking.
unfortunately its the first 80 minutes of slow, unimaginative dross that is the problem
