I'd be surprised if we scored more than 1 goal, and even more surprised if we kept a clean sheet.

have a dodgy record against these with mcdermott in charge plus we leak goals last 10 minutes and thats when they score most

2-1 Everton

Sent from Four Ecks, running away from with Rincewind.

Fancy a draw here. We will be leading til about the 80th min or so and Le Fondre will nick one.

Like the team posted by Fellainis Hairdresser. Reading got battered last time out and I never like playing a team after they have taken a beating. If we manage to squeeze a win it will be by a 1 goal margin

Its just about getting the job done now until seasons end, more end product from Mirallas plus return to form from Jelavic would be fantastic

A win here to boost us for the Wigan game, however I am not convinced sadly as we never perform against the lower teams.

2-2 the will equalise in extended injury time

Mirallas and Fellaini

Is Vic available for this?

Who is the ref ..any ideas?

I fear a defeat here and a bad run to the end of the season.
We have some hard games after this and the players seem to have switched off in the league.
I do think we will get to the cup final though and thats maybe the teams priority now

If that's true, it's very unprofessional, and dangerous putting eggs in one basket.

Agree with this apart from I'd swap Fellaini and osman around for the starting line-up. If needs be, Fellaini can be pushed up to ACM later in the game if we're looking for something different.

I'd start jelavic even if vic's fit again. He showed signs in the cup game and if he had a confidence boosting goal fest against reading, could be just what we and him need for the QF cup game. Plus I honestly think vic is a better super sub than starter.

We need a win.

4th is out of reach, but 5th is still possible and it is a spot that guarantees European football next season.

Hopefully Anichebe is back for this one.

--------------Gibson---Neville--------------

That will be the team.

It's funny, but around October/November there were a lot of us convinced that we were on the verge of tonking somebody by about 4 or 5 goals because we were playing well but not getting the breaks. Not any longer. Just looking at the stats for the Reading away match we had 63% possession in the first half! Even Manure couldn't manage that, but we still lost.

.......taxi costs about 7 from Lime St to Goodison . Or just cross the street and go down to Queen Sq ( in front of The Marriot ) and get a bus. A no. 19  (and many others) will get you there for 2.

Taxi would probably cost about £5 (private hire that is)

Alternatively you can get a bus from Queen Square (a few minutes walk from lime street) which stops right outside Goodison.

It would be quite a walk from Lime Street to Goodison

I know what you mean, if we were able to make the most of our possession then we certainly should've been 4-0 up or more. The unfortunate thing is we never really got close to that in actuality.

Now we aren't dominating like those early games and still can't seemingly score more than 1 or 2 a game in the PL.

A real shame, what a difference a regular goal scorer would have made this season.

Is he a great shot stopper?  He's not done anything to warrant that praise when he's played for us in the league cup, in fact hasn't he fucked up a few simple saves?

He's probably better than he's looked in fairness, as it's not easy playing once in a blue moon like he has done.  Just not sure where you're getting the great shot stopper bit from.

Don't think Mucha is that bad. As mentioned, a little dicey on crosses. Not as good as Howard on his day, but he'd probably be able to match the standard of Howard from earlier in the season (i.e good for some mistakes here and there and will flap a bit on crosses).

It's only in the last couple of games Howard has got his sh*t together so it's pretty typical he gets injured.

Howard
Coleman Jagielka Distin Baines
Fellaini Gibson
Mirallas Pienaar Oviedo
Jelavic

This may help Jelavic start scoring, Pienaar last year was playing though balls to Jelavic, Jelavic was slotting them away.
I doubt we'll see him score score much until some rearranging is done in the attacking half, Fellaini needs to play deeper.

In this sort of game, our passing should be superior, keep it on the ground, no hoofing or long balls.
Subs need to be better when we are leading, clap of the hands goes to Moyes when we are losing games, when he puts subs on but when it's the other way round there needs to be fresh impetuous when we're winning. Getting that 2, 3 goal lead is vital especially in games like this.

Norwich is a perfect example of that, taking of Jelavic to bring on Mirallas was just a joke. Same with the Oldham replay, we're 3-0 up in the 2nd half, what does Moyes do? Instead of pushing Oldham further, he leaves the already tiring team on when they put their 2 subs on.
When we are in such a dominant position 3-0, put another attacking player on. What is the point in putting Naismith and Hitzlsperger on in the 84' and 89' minute respectively? It's absolutely bizarre some of the decisions Moyes makes when we are leading. And it really does question my believe that Moyes has doubts about using his squad, whether that be using subs or finally dropping Neville when we have someone who can do all what Neville does but better, 'Hitzlsperger'!

Everybody saw the difference in the last two games when both opposite teams put subs on. Norwich put Kamara on, what does that do? Reinvigorates their team and gives the fans something to shout about, they then scored 2 in the last 5 minutes while we've done ourselves by taking Jelavic off. We probably would of won it if Oviedo and Mirallas would of come on when they put pressure on us 30 minutes from time.
Oldham as well, luckily we were too good for them, as they're a League 1 side, they put two players on (including the grock) guess what happens when the pile pressure on? They score.

Moyes needs to show confidence for once in his squad, because I for one do not feel comfortable when we are leading 1-0 and it's happened so many times this season where we've completely lost the plot, not by fatigue but often by how the team is set out when they put some pressure on us. Games like Norwich at home, Reading away, Oldham away, Norwich away are just a few examples of this, all games we should of won but they all have a common theme, not putting games to bed when we have a chance.

Reading - Taylor; Kelly, Pearce, Mariappa, Harte; McAnuff (C), Akpan, Leigertwood, Kebe; Hunt, Le Fondre.
Subs - Henly, Gunter, Morrison, McCleary, Karacan, Robson-Kanu, Blackman.

Reading playing their third choice keeper Stuart Taylor due to McCarthy and Federici being injured http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stuart_Taylor_(footballer_born_1980) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stuart_Taylor_(footballer_born_1980))

I watched Mucha play in a mini derby ("I think it was last year") Some of the saves he made were amazing. But it seems to me that he has no confidence in front of a proper size crowd at Goodison.

Title: Re: Everton v Reading
Post by: Outworlder47 on March 02, 2013, 09:55:19 PM
On the balance, an average first half. Looked good in attack multiple times, bar a couple of heavy touches and wayward passes. Shaky at the back, and lucky not to have conceded from Le Fondre.

No problems from Mucha so far. Wouldn't have had a chance with the shot off the post, but that should have been closed down anyway. Heitinga and Distin look unsure. Baines and Coleman are really an outlet, and McAnuff especially can't handle Coleman. (How Coleman was booked that half and McAnuff wasn't, I'm not sure.) Gibson and Osman have been largely anonymous, but Pienaar's been good and Mirallas wonderful. Jelavic has had a couple of opportunities and half-chances, and just needs to bury one to find his form again. Fellaini's caused a few problems as usual, and took his goal well.

I'd give Jelavic 15-20 minutes to establish himself more before bringing Anichebe on. Maybe swap Osman out late, if he's still not really doing much.

GOAL - Everton 2-0 Reading - Steven Pienaar (59 mins)

Oh lovely, lovely stuff. Marouane Fellaini plays the ball out to Steven Pienaar on the right and he hares in on goal, backing up Ian Harte into the penalty area before smashing a left-footed drive into the roof of the net. Pick that one out.

Some great performances today. Pienaar MOM but great games from Mirallas, Coleman, and Fellaini too. I also thought both Heitinga and Distin did well today. Biggest shame was no goal for Jelavic still and another goal let in.

Mirallas looked 100 times better on the left. Only downside was that Baines was pretty quiet. Mirallas often in the same space he would usually run on to.

mirallas looked so much better on the left and he linked up well with baines

pienaar seemed to be operating more central in the 2nd half and everything was coming through him

i would like to see us keep that system for the wigan game

I thought that too.

An easy win, for a change!
Too bad we couldn't keep the 0, but no complaints otherwise.

I don't really know.

Moyes said surgery to stitch it up.

Which is a bit confusing because stitches obviously do not require surgery.

if its just skin being stitched yes, but if its deep enough to cut muscle or tendon...

Hope he's alright. Heitinga looked a lot better today but he didn't have the best game against Wigan last time.

Sometimes you need theatre to stitch up a really bad laceration. Probably very deep. He is definitely out for the Wigan game. Hope Mucha gets another chance

We taught them a lesson today lads, far far too strong, Reading should reflect on this as that puts a knife into their survival hopes

we were ruthless, strong, powerful, monoliths, it was men against boys

the perfect time to start the form as weve got City next week, the team we love to beat to turn our fortunes round

im sorry whose writing us off of 4th?

We beating Reading. But it was good to see us playing decent attacking football again.

Also we don't play Man City next week. Wigan in the cup next, then Man City two weeks from now.

Why's that comment clueless? That second half tiday was some of the best football i've seen us play. Why can't we kick on? Our next 3 ganes are at home.

All 4 homes games in March, the first of which won today. Wigan next week to send us to Wembley. Then Man City who we have a hoodoo over and another winnable games against Stoke at home. March could be really good for momentum.

Match of the day is really bad isn't it? Not only did they single out FellIaini for praise in the analysis after the match but they also put him in the team of the day (the only Everton player in there). This despite him being pretty average in the match and Mirallas, Coleman and Pienaar putting in far better performances.

Can't be arsed reading through the rest of the thread..

Who was the group of fans in Top Balc 1 cheering everything Heitinga did?

I'm guessing it weren't Ram and friends!

I was about to ask this,... I'm guessing they were either dutch, and thought it would be funny, or friends of some kind. Had me laughing anyway

After we got the opener we played the best football we had in ages yesterday. Gibson really improved as the game went on, Coleman was always an option on the right and some of the football between Mirallas and Pienaar was superb. Mirallas definitely operates better on the left. The two of them interchanging wide attacking berths behind Jelavic or Vic with Fellaini Gibson and Osman centrally seems like the win for me at the moment

Second half we were fantastic we came flying out of the blocks, passed the ball around well and played a lot quicker, we were unlucky not to get more goals second half.
