Title: The Relegation Thread 17/18 (TRT)
Post by: Shogun on April 08, 2018, 03:25:18 AM

Not long left now.

Assuming West Brom are down and Newcastle upwards are probably safe, this is where we're currently at...

If you're almost as sad as me then here's a download link to an excel spreadsheet with the remaining fixtures to fill in. https://www.dropbox.com/s/w2b934upa282jqe/Relegation%20Prediction.xltx?dl=0

I ended up with not a lot of change...

The most anybody has read a post of mine all year!

Huddersfield have been proper shite for me and I'd love them to go down but Southampton's fixtures are brutal.

Huddersfield's aren't much better. Their last three games are vs Man city (Away), Chelsea (Away) and Arsenal (Home). That's about as bad as it gets. Although if Arsenal keep going in the Europa that last one might actually be a lot easier than it looks if they're resting a bunch of players.

They have two home games they could get points from (Watford and sadly us as we're terrible on the road) and if they even got 1 win and 1 draw from those two they're probably safe due to Southampton being unlikely to get more than 4/5 points themselves due to their crappy fixtures.

Anyhow, I started of this thinking it'd be Huddersfield and Stoke...kinda wavering because of the likelihood Huddersfield probably only need 4 pts...but I'll stick with that for now.

I reserve the right to change my mind on the final day of the season :)

Got a soft spot for Huddersfield and hope they stay up at the expense of Stoke or Soton.  Ideally I wanted WHU to go down.

Think it will be stoke and Southampton. Which is great. Just a shame West Brom went instead of West Ham

Some very established clubs are going this season

Newcastle, Palace, Stoke and West Brom would be my preference.

Rather ironic if Stoke go down after sacking Hughes and then he goes to Soton and takes them down . Has one manager ever before contributed to 2 teams being relegated in the same season ?

Stoke and West Ham would be the ideal scenario for me but West Ham have probably done just enough. It was great when Stoke stayed up over Newcastle in their first season but the novelty wore off very quickly.

Otherwise, I don't have much time for Leicester Newcastle, Palace or Southampton - Palace drew 3-3 to help deny the RS the title and Southampton have just appointed Hughes, so they can go as far as I'm concerned.

Brighton and Huddersfield have done really well to get to the PL, so I'd like to see them have a bit longer. Plus, if we ever get our act together, there should be 10-12 points for us there next season.

It's funny, I tend to base my support for a lot of teams on whoever was in the Premiership circa 94-96. So I'd like to see Leeds, Forest, Wednesday (and less likely: Wimbledon and Coventry) come back up. I suppose I'm fickle, though, because I've also listed 5 teams at the start of this who were in the league at that time and who I would be happy to see go down! I didn't shed any tears to see Villa and Norwich go either. I guess familiarity breeds contempt.

I can go back a lot further than @AllyBlue14 (http://www.nsno.co.uk/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=1439) ,the first year I got really into footie was 1966 .Interesting to see who's missing from today's top flight ,as follows , Leeds , Forest , the Sheffields , Sunderland ,Fulham ,Villa  & Blackpool

Some teams with extremely tough fixtures but you'd think Brighton and West Ham have done enough now.

If Swansea lose to Chelsea next up and Southampton beat Bournemouth then things get interesting.

Would love to see us relegate West Ham on the last day.  They have a tough run in but I just can't see three teams below West Ham overtaking them.

So, pretty simple today...in order for West Brom to make an amazing comeback they need to beat Tottenham today while Southampton (away to us), Stoke (home to Crystal Palace) and Swansea (away to Bournemouth) all need to lose.

If Swansea win, then West Brom are definitely down and Stoke are all but down on goal difference. Likelihood in that scenario would be a fight between Huddersfield, West Ham and Southampton for the last relegation spot.

Brom are down as it stands right now.

I hope Palace get an equaliser as I hate Stoke.

Despite the shit we've served up there is a positive to come out of this season, mutants have gone, West Brom will also go today, two worthless teams finally back where they belong. Proof the Pulis' brand of non football ingrained in them has no place in the PL.

If West Ham manage to drop too then this will actually have been a great season.

If anything surely it's proof that as soon as these teams try to move away from Pulis' type of football, they go down.

West Brom players were poor under Pulis for a spell, but they're mostly in this position due to Pardew being unable to even pick up a few points here or there.

If anything, I'd say the thing to come out of this season is that barring Mark Hughes turning it around at Southampton, then the likes of Pardew and Hughes will have finally exhausted their PL manager status.

So to pull off an unbelievable escape, West Brom need...

Everton v Southampton - Home/Draw

Swansea v Southampton - Draw (anything else and they're relegated)

Southampton v City - Away
Swansea v Stoke - Away
Crystal Palace v West Brom - Away

Hard to see Stoke getting a win on the final day isn't it

Some great shithousery by the Swansea Marriot to affect the Southampton's team plans before last nights game, but this is just a brilliantly brutal response.

So basically Huddersfield need a point and relegation is settled. Even the relegation battle is boring this year.

I can't feel sorry for Swansea.  If they'd not fucked around over a couple of million for Sigurdsson then they'd have had the money with more time to spend it wisely.  Looks like an expensive game of brinksmanship they lost in hindsight.

I said at the time that those injuries to Fer and Bony would have an impact. They were flying at that point.

All of this is with the board though. Bob Bradley ffs.
