Title: Everton vs Sunderland
Post by: evertonjoe on February 20, 2011, 08:00:16 PM: Right then lads, let's hope we don't fuck up yet another chance to get our season well and truly back on track!

I would make changes from the Chelsea game as although we did play well Cahill in particular looked well off the pace. This will be a difficult game but I think we can and will get a result against them.

The line up I'd go for is:

Howard

Neville Jagielka Distin Baines

Coleman Arteta Fellaini Bilyaletdinov

Saha Beckford

I fully expect Moyes to continue with Cahill, which would a be a shame as he looked fucked in the second half yesterday. Also wouldn't mind it too much if Osman played as he was decent on the left against Chelsea. Even if Saha isn't fit I still wouldn't play Cahill right now and would give Vic and Beckford a try up front together as they both showed promise at Stamford Bridge whislt lacking a little something, maybe if we play them they can add up to a decent striker.

Being overly conservative won't get us anywhere and I'm frankly tired of it. If you can't try to hammer teams at home, then what's the point?

Ultimately a win in this game is very important. The next 5 PL games against Sunderland, Newcastle, Fullham, Birminham City, and AV are all winnable. If we could get 12-15 points from these matches, which will be difficult, then we could do some serious climbing in the table.

If it makes you feel any better, I just woke up and had a dream that Baines scored two very quickly to help us jump out to a 2 - 0 lead. Bad news being I woke up before the dream ended so I am not sure if we won.

Also Sessegnon is very tricky and quite quick but doesn't seem to have alot else.

Yeah i wasn't too pleased to see him in the line up either but he did do ok last week, i'm just glad Moyes as gone 4-4-2 with Saha and Beckford up top, but i am guessing Cahill isn't 100% fit and that's why he's on the bench or else it would be Beckford there instead.

To be able to hit the ball with the shin, in to the opposing player to score takes a lot of talent. He made it look like he didn't even mean which only adds to the quality of the finish.

Good to see Osman playing well, he's so much better than Messi.

I disagree, some of his best games were against chelsea and arsenal, clichy/gibbs and cole aren't slouches.

Good performance, we really didn't need to get out of 2nd gear because they were so bad, still did our job though. Arteta was good, Beckford's movement was good and I'd say his finishing was a bit lucky, still deserve it for the runs he made and the space he was able to get into. Rodwell looked good when he came on, and Cahill had a nice few touches. Howard's save was tremendous as well, and the whole defence was solid in front of him.

MOM has to go to Osman, he was fantastic today, created nearly everything, just a shame he didn't score that goal because that was him displaying his technical ability at it's highest level. Cracking game for him, full of commitment and skill. I had wanted to see Bily on the wing but Osman has certainly earned a start in our next match.

I thought Distin was superb at the back once again and Jags looked more confident. Also good to see Baines having once of his better games defensively even if he was a bit lacking up front.

Fellaini looked worried about his left ankle so worried he strained. Hopefully it's not too bad but I reckon out for2 weeks.
Beckford pulled up after collecting a pass on the run. Not sure if it was his calf or thigh that was strained. He didn't look happy tho so hope not out for a few weeks again.

First half was decent, second half was a little dull but we never looked threatened really and the clean sheet was nice.

A bit reminiscent of not so long ago when we were a better team and won a lot more games this way. I'll take dull proficiency in the league the rest of the season. It's the "excitement" of a relegation scrap that I can do without. An exciting FA Cup run would be nice though.

I agree, a few dull one nils would tide me over nicely with a good cup run!

As a side, she said all of our players were friendly after the game, but Saha was the only one willing to devote as much time as needed to speaking with the fans, and he was happy to speak to everyone and take photos with everyone that asked.

Injured he may be fairly often, but class like that is why we're all so proud to be Evertonians.

everyone else had a decent game, even osman. shame that certain members of this board can't give praise where praise is due. up to 10th in the league now, lets keep it going starting with the cup tie on tuesday then at st james next saturday

She just caught them as they were leaving. I think she's a fan of Bily, to be honest. :)
