Neville     Jags     Distin       Baines

Fellaini

Coleman       Arteta             Bily

And in keeping with how we have been all season 2-1 to us Beckford, Cahill.

Reckon we will get stuffed 2-0,3-0, but either way it has no bearing on our season in the league, which is becoming more and more alarming.

Cups a nice diversion, but tbh Id rather we were playing another league match right now to get Bolton out of my head.

Still cant believe the ineptitude of the last performance.

I was previously thinking the same thing, but I actually reckon beating Chelsea in the Cup would probably do the same job!

Id agree if we won.  But its more likely we will lose and then it just makes the next Premiership game even harder to feel positive about.

Whats the general feeling on here with regards to Saha and apologies if its in another thread?

Do we risk him in the hope of qualifying for the next round but knowing an injury could rule him out for rest of season fucking us over in the league or do we leave him out of this, giving us a weaker side but knowing he will be fit for the league games?

Now that it looks like Louis isn't playing this is going to be tougher than ever , none of our available forwards are particularly adept at holding up the ball so I can see our defence under a lot more pressure that ever . Time for Mr Moyes to earn his corn

Can see us going with : Howard

                    Neville Jagielka Distin Baines

          Coleman Arteta Fellaini Osman Anichebe

                                  Cahill

Chelsea to win 2-1, Lampard and Kalou to score for them, Cahill for us. Would personally start with Bily and Beckford in place of Anichebe and Osman
Title: Re: Chelsea vs Everton
Post by: Tony Clifton on February 18, 2011, 06:56:38 PM
Not going to happen like, but I'd go for something like this:

Howard
Neville Jags Distin Baines
Heitinga Felli
Coleman Arteta Bily
Beckford

Anichebe should be benched (as in hit with a bench ;)), Moyes is asking for trouble if he starts him.

Going with Derek's podcast prediction of 1-2 though (after extra time, Bily and Beckford)

Would tend to agree with this lineup with Cahill instead of Beckford.  Prefer a stronger centre midfield partnership rather than Ossie behind the striker away from home.  Cahill has to play instead of Beckford although it will put a lot of pressure on Mikel playing further up the field and Bily/Seamus to link inside with Tim.

Judging by last weeks performance then yes, but if he plays like he has when he's started there in the past and combine that with the way he usually plays against the top teams then I expect some great link up play with Baines.

Not keen on Bily being dropped for Osman to be honest.  Although in fairness I suppose whichever one of them you play it's a bit of a toss-up as to whether you'll get a performance or not, I still think Bily has shown enough in the last few games to warrant keeping his place.

Ossie plays better against some of the ' decent ' teams as he gets more time on the ball but it must have been a close call between him and Bily .. can't complain about the team selection today though , Jags and Becks realy had to start

Bily was poor last week but Osman came on and was even shitter! I didn't think he was so slow until i saw him get caught up and tackled on the touchline after defending a corner i think by Kevin Davies when he had a 5 or so yard head start on him.

Glad Jags and Beckford are in though but i just want to see some fight from us this week, i want to see us getting in to Chelsea's faces and battling for every ball for every minute!.

Who wasn't poor? This is the type of game that would suite Bily, where he'd be given time on the ball.

Osman out wide makes me want to self harm, I'm furious.

Exactly my point.  The whole team was shit yet Bily gives way for someone who always looks so uncomfortable in the left position.  I hope Ossie cuts inside a lot today so he can have some influence on the game.

Exactly, i couldn't care less if we lost and got knocked out as long as i saw that we gave it a real good go for 90 minutes and battled away the whole match and i could see that everyone of them gave an 110% effort!.

I'll be pissed off if when the game gets going and we haven't got the ball, we get every man behind the ball and in our own half and sat in two banks of 4 and a 5 or 6 and sit off the opposition and not go chasing and closing down up on the half way line and beyond and really work hard and give it ago cos alately all we seem to do is what ive just mentioned and to me that isn't working hard enough in my eyes, how the likes of Arsenal and Barca and our opponents today work is working hard, the chasing and hunting in packs and closing down they do no matter who they play is how it should be done and if its good enough for those teams then its good enough for us!.

Good first half for us, we came out to attack and play football from the off and we've carved out numerous good openings albeit without really making Cech make a good save yet.  The trouble with having Osman on the left (and this isn't a criticism of him), is that he's either got to to cross the ball on his wrong foot or alternatively cut inside to get it on to his right and that's caused a few good opportunities to be lost.

We're still looking pretty vulnerable at the back, particularly against any sort of pace but you've got to expect that Chelsea are going to create chances.  That was a cracking save my Howard from Malouda.

Not sure on the penalty incident at the moment, he certainly was looking for it but I can't tell from the replays so far whether there definitely wasn't any contact that would have been enough to give a penalty.

More of the same 2nd half and we're in with a great shout today.

It only takes one decent ball, and we can win this one.

Good half, solid performances from just about everyone (Jags understandably looking a little rusty and Neville still hoofing a little too often). Another good half for Arteta too, very encouraging.

I just hope he has a stunning game now to compensate.  Bily was poor last game but it seems like he is always the scapegoat.

I am pleased that Jags gets the nod though.
but we are lucky his poor defending haven't cost us yet......  nearly added another own goal to his impressive numbers

Fucking love this schizophrenic team of ours.  Sometimes.

I actually welled up, and my voice cracked like a bitch when Baines equalised.

Howard man of the match -- Superman today.

Great pens from Jags and Arteta, but cool as fuck from Heitinga and Neville.

Credit where due to Moyes also - pretty much spot-on with everything today.

Now drop this schizo routine, the lip service, and make this our belated turning point for the season.

David Moyes was delighted at his side's sensational progression to the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Everton looked to be heading for defeat after Frank Lampard had fired Chelsea ahead in the first half of extra time.

But Leighton Baines netted an inch perfect free kick with a minute to play and forced penalties.

In the shoot-out Nicolas Anelka and Ashley Cole missed and Phil Neville  held his nerve to send the Blues through, and Moyes was understandably exuberant as his side set-up a home tie with Reading in the fifth round.

"I'm just smiling and feeling really good that we've beaten Chelsea," Moyes told evertontv.

"We could talk a lot about what has happened but I think the feeling for Everton to knock Chelsea out of the cup was really great.

"The players were right on the money today they were right at it from the off."

Everton were spurred on by an incredible 6,000 strong away support and Moyes dedicated the victory to the Blues faithful.

"The fans were brilliant today, we needed it and they needed it as well," said Moyes.

"They've not seen enough good Everton team performances this season, but they certainly saw one today."

That was awful. Grabbed my mobile and went out the back of the garage, had to keep refreshing the BBC live text. It sat at 3-3 for ages, I smoked 2 ciggies during the shootout.

At work myself, never followed a pen shoot out on a phone before........it is horrible!

I smoked two iggies as well and I don't smoke, its that kind of torture.

Well done Everton, well done Nev.

Interesting.........ILB slagging off Moyes as per fucking usual when we are 1-0 down, not to be seen posting in this thread since we got back on level terms and won it... so take that Ancelotti, Terry, Lampard, Drogba and ILB!!!!!

Just when we reach one of our lowest points supporting this club, we produce a fighting performance like today, that restores your faith in our great club.

I know we all have our views on kenright, but seeing him on telly after baines scored, there is a lot that I and other blues hate about him, but you cant deny that he is as big a fan as the rest of us.

Even when he sells and steps down, i have no doubt that he will still be there week in week out.

Its a great day to be a blue, lets relish in it

He's welcome to a free seat for life providing he sells the bloody club :D

Ideally, Bill can continue in his public role as a fan of the club provided he's just a figurehead. He does well in that.

You do have a habit of flying in whenever we're doing badly and you also admitted to always betting against us. Silas wasn't to know about your auld fella.

On that topic, I hope he's doing OK and will pull through! All the best!

I wish your dad nothing but good health but I am no hypocrite and you do only turn up 99% of the time to

a) Slag off Osman
b) Slag off the team

My dad is a tad better thanks mate for asking, long story cut short but he is the reason i AM an Evertonian, through and through believe it or not. PS  I bet against Everton because i am an awful gambler so i bet against us hoping i lose the bet, sounds weird but it is my way strange way of hoping we win

Thanks for your thoughts about my dad, LO is shite 99% of the time, but i love this football club. I am not going to say anything about LO anymore, as his performances will speak for themselves, you have have thoughts about him but i can see more and more people on here are realising he has had his day, i can't quite remember that day but i am sure you can  ;)

Haven't had more than about 30 minutes sleep since 12.30pm yesterday, so incredibly worth it.

I'd go as far as to say it's my 2nd-3rd favourite match I've witnessed, so proud to be an Evertonian today.

But to be fair we only beat them on pens and Essien only came on in the second half.  :smug:

Gutted I missed this because of work. Told my boss to fuck off when he told me we'd won on pens and Neville scored the winner. Yeeeees!

Pretty much the strongest side they could have played minus 2 that came off the bench and we were missing Saha.

I'll fucking take it.

Few of my thoughts today:

Howard was outstanding at shot stopping. I agree with Si and his comment earlier that he's not so good at aerial balls. Nevertheless, top notch today.

Shame Bily didn't start. He needs games to see if he's going to reach his obvious potential. He's getting there and I can't say Osman offered anything more today, despite having one of his better games.

Arteta needs to focus on getting his midfield game entirely back in swing. I think he should be taken off all dead ball situations and left to focus purely on his bread and butter. He can't seem to get it right (apart from that pen today!) and Baines has proven again he's FAR superior with free-kicks in those positions. Bily, Baines and Osman call all cross an excellent ball from corners.

There's a problem with integrating Cahill into our team now. He's still amongst our best 11 players but probably not in our best team, in my opinion. Unless we're playing to his strengths, he's not heavily involved, as I don't think he's especially versatile. If we had a full strength squad, I probably wouldn't start him.

Beckford needs to hit a few more balls at goal, because he can score them. He also need someone to work with up front. He put in an excellent shift, but he's looked at his best when Saha has been on the pitch with him (who we missed today, I think).

Johnny wasn't very good in regular time, but his theatrics (and a solid pen) were excellent today. Exactly what we needed. Just wish he'd sort out his game a bit and stop talking about moves away!

Neville was excellent today too. He's solid at the back despite not offering too much going forward. Stepped up to the plate BIG TIME for our last pen. I was hoping it'd be him. Great celebrations afterwards. He is an absolutely superb Captain, no matter his odd fault.

Baines must be worth trillions just now. He does his job so well. He runs his line like a man possessed. I'd say he's ahead of Cole just now and I mean it. He's a top, top, top player. Let's hope Bily (who has also taken a while to establish himself) can prove to be as good.

That is all.

Agree about Baines, he's been the best LB in the league by a long distance this season and as good as Fellaini is, Baines is far more consistent. Given that he's a LB and not a CM or Striker his influence on the game is massive, if he keeps playing like this next season then I think he'll have to be considered world class.

I think Cahill just needs an extra couple days off, he can play in our best 11 and it'll be interesting to see how him and Saha play together but he's looked really off the pace since coming back.

Not really much Beckford could do today, he doesn't have the ability to play up front on his own away to Chelsea, few players do. The only thing that he did that bugged me was pull Ferreira down when we had a break in order to get himself open, it was a stupid play and could have cost us a goal scoring opportunity. Still not convinced he'll be anything more than a squad player, but that's just about fine with me.

unbelievable joy listening to that today, thought we were sunk when lampard scored, went mental when bainesy scored and was physically shaking during the shootout with nerves. when nev's went in i went into some kinda mad trance in which my glasses flew off twice, i repeatedly kissed the badge on my shirt and beat my fist into my bed several times

even got a high five off my rs supporting dad, who had been saying to me all week that he had a feeling we would do them on pens
