Title: Everton v Reading
Post by: Always a Toffeeman on February 27, 2011, 09:38:38 PM
Tuesday night game, injured players might not make it in time with game being so close

Howard
Neville Distin Jags Baines
Heitinga
Coleman Arteta Osman
Cahill
Saha

If beckford is fit then rest cahill and play 4 4 2 as well as if fellaini is fit, then play him ahead of heitinga, if rodwell is up to playing the 90mins then him for heitinga, but need a strong line up in order to make it through safely, a good cup run could make up for a poor season, i reckon we could get a clean sheet and score a few so im goin for 3 - 0

Rodwell should be ok to play, deserves the start if Fellaini doesn't make it

Presuming Fellaini and Beckford doesn't make it (and I would bench them as a precaution anyway).

Howard

Neville    Jags     Distin        Baines

Coleman   Arteta    Osman    Bily

Cahill

Saha

If fellaini and beckford are fit:

                              Howard

neville            disitn                jags             baines

coleman          fellaini           arteta             osman

                       beckford           saha

If they are injured i would go for:

                           Howard
neville          distin              jags             baines

coleman        arteta          rodwell          osman

                                  cahill

                                    saha

Under the lights at Goodison should make it too big a task for Reading. Not oging to bother predicting team or score, as I'm usually wrong.

Really looking forward to this, nothing beats a cup game at Goodison under the floodlights.

We may not have any first team strikers for this one. OS reporting that Beckford is a doubt, and that Saha was complaining of a hamstring injury on Saturday morning. Add Anichebe potentially being injured and we'd be struggling.

If none of them make it, then I'd expect to see Bily, Rodwell and Cahill come in for Becks, Felli and Saha with Cahill up top and Rodwell playing off him. Hopefully one of them makes it though.

I really hope a striker makes it, it will make a tie we should really sail through very difficult.

3-1 Cahill 2 Baines 1 and Long for them

If none of our strikers make it and with Cahill struggling for fitness we'll really need one of the other midfielders to step up and score. It'll probably make this game a long slog.

To be fair, when its a nickname that all fans use, like 'Bily' thats ok.

But when people make up their own and shout them at the match I just cringe.

Tiger Tim is pretty poor though!

Agree, I hated it when people called Steven Pienaar peanuts....
Another kipper misnomer, and they call themselves fans...

As for the match, it's going to be tighter than a lot of people think, as long as we can win without any extra time or any injuries, I'll be chuffed.

Depends if we fly at them from the start or not.  We are capable of putting the tie out of sight first half but we rarely do so.

3-1 with an eye-opening early goal by the visitors.  Moyes will throw a second striker on and tell the squad that they will not live to see tomorrow without a victory.  Bily, Baines and Cahill to score.

Maybe, but I've never looked into it tbh, although everyone is always telling me it's worth it.

I used to have Everton TV, which works anywhere, and the commentary is Blues biased which is great, but the way they stream it is crap and my computer eventually just gave up and wouldn't do it anymore.

No one is getting into the box. They're all just standing outside of it, not making a run and opening up space when we have the ball on the outside of their 18. Saha just sitting their wanting the ball not actually doing much of anything.

He didn't look great against Sunderland either, but that is the benefit of having another striker on the pitch as it splits the blame so a quiet game isn't highlighted as much.

The thing is though, until their goal, we were solid and in just about total control. Occasionally they'll break forward but that was bound to happen with how much of the ball we were seeing. Since the goal though we haven't kept possession as well and Distin has gone on fucking holiday at the back.

Bainsy on all free kicks in a scoring position if we aren't going to do anything from open play is a simple change. Arteta surely can't complain as he was given a few chances and did nothing with them. Tell Billy to run back into position if you get caught, don't tell Rodwell to get there and walk back. Lets fucking bury them in the 2nd half.

I can't see any other option at the moment. We're so cumbersome in the final 3rd, Beckford's pace alone should at least help with that. I hope this is one we can turn around as I'd hate have this be another Bolton-like game...Moyes hopefully will kick them up the arse a bit.

Firstly I'd bring Beckford on, I might even do it for Rodwell bringing Osman to the middle.
After that it's a poor looking subs bench from an attacking standpoint. Perhaps I'd consider Anichebe down the right with Coleman dropping to RB.

We need a spark from somewhere.

Of course another way of looking at it would be to say that on countless occassions this season the defenders have been guilty of horrendous mistake after horrendous mistake and it's that that has cost us and produced the shittest season in a long time.

This is an excellent point in all fairness.

I dont want to make a kneejerk reaction, but Moyes constant negativity is beginning to wear thin on my patience now. It's a stone cold fact he sets us up every game to be hard to beat and hope to nick the 1 goal at the other end.

So when we beat Chelsea you had no thoughts about us actually going on to win it?
You didn't think that bit of confidence would or could've pushed us on?
Moyes' brave substitutions in the past few games have not dismissed that he is to defensive?
Did Moyes play out there tonight and put what could've been attacking options sideways?
Title: Re: Everton v Reading

So when we beat Chelsea you had no thoughts about us actually going on to win it?

No. Reading, Man.C/Villa. Semi's then final. Thats 4 games to win. On the basis of how inconsistent the season has been it's that old chestnut of taking one game at a time.

You didn't think that bit of confidence would or could've pushed us on?

No again, as witnessed after the first game against the shite, winning at Man City, we've not built on any of those performances have we?

Moyes' brave substitutions in the past few games have not dismissed that he is to defensive?

Only went two up front against Sunderland because he was forced to. Cahill wasn't fully fit otherwise Beckford would not have started.

Did Moyes play out there tonight and put what could've been attacking options sideways?

Not suggesting it's his fault due to the players that are on that field, but it's his team, his players, he should be motivating them to do better. What does his teamtalks at H/T consist of? HIS TEAM therefore he must take full responsibility.

Shame, our only real chance of European football was given away very cheaply.
