Would be a great opportunity for some of our younger players to get a run out. Can't see it happening tho.

Would love to see some of the kids/fringe players to get a game but I'm expecting us to line up like this

                       Howard

     Hibbert Jagielka Distin Baines

                Neville   Heitinga
      Rodwell   Arteta     Osman
                     Anichebe

Expecting a really dull game, the end of this season can't come soon enough!

Its very bleak in here!

I don't like predicting but I'm going for 0-2 Chelsea with a borderline shameful performance from our lads.

In order to maintain 7th position we have to hope that Fulham and Stoke don't win their last fixtures and we lose to Chelsea or else the worst case scenario is we end 9th.

Now I'm not sure how much the difference in value of prize money between 7th and 9th place finish but given our financial situation this could make a bit of a differerence given the club needs all the money it can get. I know it's a sad state of affairs but at least it's an incentive to try and win this coming Sunday

i'd like to see
                howard
neville    jags     distin   baines

anichebe heitinga osman arteta
                 cahill
               beckford.
its nothing too exciting but i think coleman has faded badly and vic could do a job on the right. if cahill is out i'd put gueye on the left and put arteta in the cahill role. i definately wouldn't go making drastic changes as i think we'd get a hammering. i want at least a point to get 7th place.

Much as I'm glad to see the back of the season, I know in two weeks I'll have withdrawal symptoms.

I'm already mourning the season and looking forward to next (and wishing we could avoid silly season) and this season isn't even over!

The seasons are flying by now. Just said to the wife yesterday the beginning of the season seemed just a few weeks back and the beginning of the 08-09 season (for some reason) is crystal clear in my head like it happened yesterday.

It's about consolidating 7th position and thus receiving more prize money than we would get if we ended 8th or 9th.

Plus given also that we are playing Chelsea, it may actually not be a great idea to play the youngsters.

It seems like only yesterday that the arrival of Andrew Johnson was seen as progress, not least because the business was done at the start of the close season, not the end.

We are 1-0-5 against Chelsea in our last 3 home and away against them. Can easily see a 1-1 draw as we solidify 7th and look forward to next season. Becks for us and Torres, the man I no longer hate, for them.

Celtic have done it for a few years, but Lech Poznan have been doing it for something like half a century. I'm pretty sure it would have been copied from them and just called it a huddle to try and seem original, rather than saying we are doing a Poznan.

I actually like the look of our team today. Rodders alongside Heitinga in centre mid, with Osman surely playing off Becks in his best position IMO and Coleman out wide offering us width and direct running on the ball.

No Drogba for them which is a good thing as he's got a good scoring record vs. us. I think Jags can keep Torres quiet and we need to pay attention to Lampard as he seems to get a few goals vs. us aswell.

I wonder whats up with Gueye and Vellios as neither are on the bench today?.

Yea we play well against Chelsea generally. Just a matter of putting the ball in the net.

Arteta our best player so far, with Jags, Osman, and Distin all looking pretty solid.

My only complaint is how often Baines seems to be isolated, but other than that everyone has been solid at least.

Wish we would play like this every game cos we'd be in a better position in the league if we did, weve played well, there's only Rodwell for me who hasnt been in the game but thats pretty much the story of his season for me.

I hope we kick on second half and put em to the sword.

I think you're expecting too much of Rodwell, I think he's been told to keep it simple and keep the ball moving, similar to Heitinga. The difference being that Heitinga is getting a bit more stuck in, and has played a couple of long balls.

For me, Rodwell is there to maintain possession and occasionally get forward, and I think because he's worried about getting caught out of position he's limiting his runs forward. However hasn't done anything wrong as far as I can see and made a nice run down the wing early.

Heroic performance out there today, shame it counts for nought.

It's games like this that make us really believe we can challenge right at the top, we just need to figure out how to play like this against the lesser teams and how to get off to a good start to a season.

Arteta and Beckford in particular promising and hopefully they can carry on this form into next season.

He was good today of course but he has been average for a while and other teams will have noticed that and probably won't be too keen to splash out on him.

As I've already said though I'd rather just not sell any of them and just ship Yobo, Yakubu, Mucha and Bilyaletdinov. That'd probably bring in about 15 million if we are lucky.

Also we managed to win, display a great team spirit and passion without Neville, who for some reason although he is a poor player so many on here reckon he is needed.

I am choosing to just enjoy today for what it is.

Same. Good win, I'll think about other things later. Just happy to beat those fucking whining cunts, still wish someone had gone through John Terry and snapped his leg though. That's the only downside to today.

He would if as alleged it becomes a bidding war involving Chelsea, Man City and others.

I can't believe that Arteta and Rodwell can have seasons as bad as this one again

But why exactly would any of those teams want him, he wouldn't get near their first teams on this years form and there are cheaper prospects out there.

I would agree and there were some serious signs of life today.

If they have a good pre-season and stay injury free, then hopefully not. Hopefully Moyes manages to work out his best starting line up and formation in pre-season too and not messing about for the first half of next season.

To be fair both have had sparks of good form that have usually been stamped out by injury. Arteta in particular seemed to be getting back into the swing of things throughout the second half of the season.

Who would have thought...

Everton 1 man down after 50 minutes against a club that we've had extreme difficulty beating in the last 10 years. You'd think the odds were firmly stacked against us and who pops up with the Everton matchwinner - Beckford from League One.

That's the beauty of football.

To be fair, I don't think we've lost to them since the cup final in 2009. We rarely lose to Chelsea nowadays.

Well we've beaten them in exactly half of the league matches since that cup final.

I don't know how people have overlooked our good form against Chelsea recently.

I also have a Chelsea supporter telling me it was definitely a card for Coleman because Mikel could have been hurt. It's annoying, of course he could have been hurt, it doesn't mean it wasn't a fair challenge. Sometimes players get hurt in clean challenges, it's a fucking contact sport, too many pussies out there honestly.

before today we'd beat them once in the last 8 or so years(possibly more i couldn't find results prior to that)

We've beaten them twice this season and once last.

yeah but the original post said we've had extreme difficulty beating them in the last ten years which is true.

and cantoffee , we won on penalties so it was a draw really
even though obviously we got through and it counts as a victory

So it was really a draw, but it counts as a victory? So it's a win then yes? Not sure how you can exclude that, it was a win, we had to beat them on penalties, but it's still a win.

we've beat them twice in the league in the last ten years.
therefore we do find it difficult to beat them
even though recently we have improved with draws and victories against them

Heroic performance out there today, shame it counts for nought

But it does, apart from 3 points, it gives the club a lift, makes the players feel good and having read the comments on here gives most of us a good feeling too..result also makes some look stupid too, but that's the natures of a fans forum!...had we lost, it would be all the usual crap that follows a defeat.

Other good news, Brum down and the shite out of Europe

On the face of it "yes" - but no doubt Birmingham will go into administration and Liverpool will qualify......they do after all tend to find a way. :eh:

Commentators on my stream had it right about Becks. He has no problem creating chances, but he just cannot figure out how to beat PL keepers. Story of his season.

Even before today that was not accurate. Beckford will miss some, but he clearly knows where the goal is and has scored some wonderful goals this season especially considering his jump up from league 1.

Moyes says the sending off was spot on, I'd agree with that.

I think Barry Horne called it right during the game, a few years ago that would have been a good challenge. He's lunged in though and for a moment had both feet off the ground, he got the ball but at the time it looked worse than it was, then Mikel milked it.

If Seamus had a better first touch, he'd have never found himself in the situation anyway.

Great finish to another frustrating season, hopefully next season we can carry the momentum in to it.

i thought the red was harsh, looked like he got the ball imo, cracking goal from beckford, more like that next season please. 7th place finish it is then, not bad but not great either. have to push on next season if we are to challenge the euro spots
