Title: Everton v Liverpool
Post by: Gary Iceman on September 25, 2011, 01:53:00 AM
get your predictions/team/formation and anything else in here, this is gonna be another hard game. i personally wouldnt go with 4-4-2, maybe velios and then cahill in behind. thats his fave position. i would play also play drenthe on the left and coleman/guaye on the right, get the crosses in for the big man and tiny tim who as we all know has got a great leap on him.my prediction is 2-2 velios both goals, i know your gonna say im dreaming but im always optimistic :)

I can see a similar side being played to today, and if so a 0-2 defeat.

I'll take 1-0, though!

Finally making it up for my first derby :woohoo:

I'll say us 2-1 - Cahill and Coleman, plus Kuyt's annual penalty.

I'd be surprised if Cahill will be playing next weekend.  Moyes seemed to think it might have been quite a bad one in his interview on Sky.

He said bruising in the BBC interview, but he'll be touch and go.

Lets hope so.  Cahill is the only player we have that is capable of ruffling a few of the opposition's feathers.

I think it'll be this except that Saha tit (not sure how he got on ahead of vellios after acting like a tosser) not strac and no idea who in place of injured cahill.

he's never going to give vellios or stracq their first starts in a derby, be interesting to see how serious cahills injury was today, didn't look to good.
even if cahill is injured i think he'd play fellaini off saha or something stupid like that.

i'm going to accept cahill won't be fit enough.

what is the worst part of liverpools team?
the defence.

so lets have ago at them, plus we have the huige advantage of a rowdy goodison crowd.

howard
hibbert jags distin baines
coleman  heitinga rodwell drenthe
saha straq

2 wide men feeding straq and louis

i wouldnt put neville anywhere near the team nor osman. as despite him having a run of 6 good games last season, people seem to have forgotten how crap osman is.

I wouldn't start Neville either, to be honest.

I agree with you (for the first time, ever!) that the best thing to do is have a go. Liverpool can score, and Kuyt will, naturally, get his annual penalty, so we should be looking to hurt them too, especially considering their defence is not up to scratch.

A bit of swift movement and we could get ourselves an easy pen of the 529 year old Jamie C.

i would be gutted if rathead scored past us again

i listened to the start of the liverpool commentry on city fm on the way back from the game, it was clear they dont rate skirtel at all - aldo was damning of him.
And caragher is slowing up (although i always thought he was slow anyway).
they also dont think their new south american defender is upto the prem yet.

they will play kelly at right back - as skirtle cant handle a winger who wants to go past him.

I'd say if Cahill is physically able to walk he will play.  Really hope that there is a proper striker out there though and Cahill is joining from the midfield.  Hibbo has done nothing wrong but can see Neville taking over at right back.  I can see this team:

                          Howard

Neville      Jagielka     Distin     Baines

Coleman    Rodwell   Fellaini   Osman
                            Cahill
                             Saha

Can't see Moyes risking Barkley, Drenthe, Vellios or Stracq in a derby atmosphere from the start.  I don't mind the above team but we really can't afford to play Neville or Heitinga at centre mid because they are not midfield players.  Id be over the moon with a win but can see us getting a draw at best.  We don't generally do clean sheets so I'll go 2-2, Cahill and Jags with or goals

Drenthe gave the ball away for the 2nd goal near the half way line then didn't even bother running back, as much as he's a talent he needs to get more of an Everton attitude before he starts a derby match

Don't think He's ready tbh, do think he's gonna be quality but he seems to love keeping hold of the ball for as long as humanly possible, dont think he'd have any time on the ball in a derby atmosphere

I'd go for:

Howard

Hibbert
Jagielka
Distin
Baines

Barkley
Rodwell
Fellaini
Drenthe

Vellios
Saha

But there's more chance of me becoming leader of the free world by Tuesday than there is of that happening.

So, probably 4-6-0 again, and probably another dicking to go along with it. Sad that we don't throw caution to the wind and just go an attack.

I really am not worried about Liverpool at goodison. I think it will be for us to lose!
If we play our own game we will beat them

I expect to see

              Howard
Hibbert jags Distin Baines
        Rodwell Fellani
Coleman   Cahill   Osman
                 Saha

All fit I think this is probably the right way to the derby with the local lads playing.

I'd be surprised to see Coleman start, he was rushed back and it's starting to show, eager as ever but didn't do much against City.

I'd also be surprised if we started a derby without neville, despite Hibberts good form.

I think EFC have a fair chance so long as DM does not repeat the City
errors.

- Never play Neville in midfield.
- Ask the players to play in their normal positions.
- Play with a recognized centre forward.
- Now that Arteta has gone, take a chance with a gifted player i.e Barkley
to provide something different

And my favourite recommendation
- never again put out a team that includes Hibbert,
Neville and Osman

Just seen enrique stating how carrol will get his first EPL goal of the season against us. Now unlike some fans i hate derbies, always have, im just relieved if we dont lose tbh. Now with ''king'' kenny well and truly back and them spending a fortune (its like some things never change) i'll be so pissed if we lose and carrol scores. Suarez is the leagues biggest cheat and with such a weak ref in charge whats the betting they get gifted summit too, just to help them along? Anyway for once i'm hoping moyes goes for it and starts saha, imo he's never been what we needed, BUT wouldnt it be lovely if he responds with the winner saturday?

starting team should be for me,

howard
hibbert, jags, distin, baines
coleman, neville, fellaini, cahill, osman
saha

I hate derby games, really hate them, I was extremely confident before last seasons game at Goodison, you just knew that we would win, not so confident this year though, just hope Moyes is positive with his team selection. Get at them from the off!! Saha in for Cahill

Howard
Hibbert
Jags
Distin
Baines
Osman
Royston
Rodwell
Fellaini
Coleman
Saha

Prediction
2-1

Cahill and Saha up top does not work with possibly the exception of Liverpool games!

I expect Moyes to go with...

           Howard
Hibbert jags Distin Baines
        Rodwell Fellani
Coleman  Cahill  Osman
              Saha

I'm happy with that as a starting line up for this one but if not going well I'd love Barkley in for Cahill and drenthe in for Osman early on.

Don't know about others but I'm fully confident of a win on Saturday

I can see the same team as last week playing and us going down to a 2-0 defeat.

If however, he plays Drenthe and a striker, Saha probably, but i wouldn't mind seeing Vellios getting a game, i think we'll beat them. I wouldn't have Neville anywhere near that team again. Last couple of games he's been about as good as syphilis.

Tough one to call though, but I just see us edging it by the one goal.  Sorry guys.

I agree about the hounding. Your defence isn't particularly adept with the ball and with Cahill chasing them around all game they will probably resort to hoofing it, and with Fellaini in front of the defence we shouldn't have too much trouble.

If we go at them from the whistle with a packed goodison in full voice then I reckon we'll win and look reasonably comfortable.

If we approach it the way we usually approach games and even stick Cahill up front, they'll destroy us.

Ithink that's the best way to go about it, like Spurs did. We were never at the raced at that game. If you go behind the fans could get restless and not get behind the team. Go ahead, and the fans will be delirious and Everton will have the wind in their sails

I'm getting nervous just thinking about it. Mr Gerrard could have a big day in this match.

What a lovely person you must be...

Sorry for not showing any sensitivity towards someone who gets paid loads of money, injured or not, plus him being our rivals main player and threat.  Which him being out will improve our chances.

I never wished death and disabilty on him, so get the fuck off your high house mate.

Think it'll all depend on if we decide to try to play them on the ground or in the air, i reckon we could have a good go down the wings with drenthe and coleman, wouldnt be surprised if we won or they won

Hopefully.

The analysis of his reign does my head in. I think the truth now is that Liverpool are living on past glories and are a top 6 team, not a top 4 team. He has cash but didn't spend it too wisely in my opinion, but when it's all said and done, they'll probably be in and around the European places.

Must admit I'm quite concerned about this one the closer it gets. My main worry is that we won't pick the right starting 11. If we focus on just trying to contain them, with Cahill up front on his own I can see a horror show and last minute defeat. Would truly love to see us Attack them and batter them tomorrow as all the horrible red shites in work have already started givin it loads 'Suarez is gonna destroy ya', all that, and I hate that horrible dirty little cheating bastard!Come on Blues let's beat these!

I think the plan will be similar to what we did against Wigan. Put them under immense pressure when they have the ball and cause them to cough up possession. As NicD says in his blog, we have the most interceptions in the league this year and that's in no small part due to our ability to put pressure on the opposition defence and midfield.

I think we'll win a close game,2-1  with Cahill and Coleman scoring.

I think there will be a surprise inclusion somewhere... Not sure who maybe Barkley
Realistically think he may go..

               Howard
Hibbert jags Distin Baines
          Rodwell Fellani
Coleman   Cahill   Osman
                Saha

Myself would be tempted to start with Barkley in place of Coleman, think drenthe could well prove vital from bench as Saha won't have more than an hour in him. At which point Cahill will do 10 mins as lone striker before being replaced by tollos who grabs a late winner!

Worst refereeing performance since the Clattenburg derby. I'm still fuming here.

The match was crying out for calmness and the man who's supposed to abide by that rule loses his. Disgraceful and he has to be demoted after this weekend. Completely ruined the game.

Fantastic save by Howard as we've come to expect. Hopefully we dig deep and manage to nick a goal to win this.

I think our best hope here is if Carragher gives away another penalty.

Such a shame as we were having a good deal of press before the red.

Jags needs to sort himself out, also some of our midfield looking a bit tired. At this point I'd consider taking Saha off to get some more control in the mid, perhaps bringing on Billy or Drenthe.. Saha is too isolated to be of much use, unless we bring on a striker who can hold it up a bit more.

We've been alright though, some of the Saha shots we're good efforts. This game was a write off the second we went down to 10.

I don't disagree that we've given away too much possession today, but with someone like Yakubu up front that wouldn't have been as much of a problem. I thought Saha was good today and looked dangerous, but I think Yakubu's ability to hold the ball up and come deep or move out to the flanks would have been beneficial in preventing the ball from coming right back at us.

Yes, I know we don't have that option anymore, but I didn't think there was much Moyes could have changed today. We were undone by a terrible decision and some poor defending, Jags was bad today and a ball playing defender would also have gone a long way to helping us keep the ball.

Aaaaaargh. So pissed off.

Liverpool were very average. Bad defending a times albeit with tired legs. Baines was at least partially at fault for both today. I think it is time Heitinga and Distin had a chance together, it's just too sloppy by Jags at the moment. But really hard to look past the stupid ref.

Mainly worried about stopping the rot now. Fulham away will be tricky followed by Man Utd.

Just on my way home now and I'm fuming!and nothing is gonna make me feel any better. I honestly believe Atkinson went into that game intent on making sure Liverpool won. Ridiculous decision, not helped by Suarez staying down, he is a disgrace the Uruguayan. Was made up when Jags refused to shake hands with him, when he dies he will rot in hell!all game he's round the ref asking for a card, gloating in front of our fans, wanted to run on the pitch and chin the little shit!same goes for Lucas Leiva and Kuyt, cheating right the way through that game. It's hard to actually comment on any of the football.we did all that we could do knowing even if we won the ball cleanly we would be punished every time, and that even if we were fouled we would never get the decisions

Was a real pity cos the crowd was well up for it and the players were responding. But the referee ruined it.that was the worst refereeing performance I have ever seen.it was like an exaggerated version of what I imagined in my worst nightmares last night. Cahill and Osman seemed really riled by the red and I was stunned that Atkinson didn't find a way to send off Cahill. The lads battled their hearts out but it was always going to be a losing battle. Drenthe impressed me when he came on, looked to take people on and was denied a blatant foul late on by man of the match Atkinson. I really hope he never refs us agains but were running out of refs that I would be happy to have as they all seem to hate us!rant over.pissed off!

It's not just Liverpool though, so many teams get away with shit like Liverpool got away with today.

Saw somewhere that Atkinson has had more red cards successfully appealed than any other official in this country, surely that says it all.

People like Suarez are all that is wrong with the cancer in the game these days. Barely touched and rolling around like they've been shot. I could have never been a footballer, if he'd done that to a team mate of mine I'd have been out to do him after that. Horrible cheating little cunt.

Respect is earned, not demanded and it's earned through integrity and honesty something that I'm beginning to question in this sport.  The transparency of decisions in the Rugby World Cup not only makes today's decision hard to take but brings the whole sport into disrepute.

I was surprised too, I was away yesterday, so I had no idea what had gone on, and just watched the replay of MOTD blissfully unaware of what had gone on.

I was just as shocked as everybody else about the sending off.
Atkinson had to be the worst man on the putch, as he got other decisions horribly wrong too (Hibbert on Adam..)

Unfortunately the sending off was pivotal.
They did get a lot of space on our right side I noticed, from where their first goal came from.
I won't even mention the second, well, I'll leave it as a freaky one-off mix-up.

Unlucky with the sending off lads, I would have liked to have seen a match with 11 vs 11.  Not the same bleating about it when someone has been sent off.  There were other tackles that seem to be a lot worse than the sending off.

Did anyone else thought it lacked the urgency of other Derby's?  Not sure whether it was the weather or not but there didn't seem to be the high tempo of other games.  But maybe that was the tempo they were going for.

Any judgment on the match wouldn't be a true reflection on the teams.  You could say Everton didn't offer much in attack but then again what team is after going a man down with only 20 minutes gone.  Thought Liverpool could have offered a lot more, but I'm just happy with the result.

Didn't like to see bottles and coins thrown at our players, and rightly said by some of the fans on this forum that it was wrong.  there's no place for that anywhere.

As I said, unlucky lads.  Good showing from Everton and did well to cope as they did. See you for the return leg!
