Title: Everton V Fulham
Post by: Sir Stealth on January 22, 2012, 12:48:07 AM
No point changing the team much as we have a great chance of boring these to death.

               Howard
Neville Duffy Heitinga Baines
Donovan Fellaini Gibson Anichebe
              Cahill Saha

1-0 Fellaini

I'd like to see Drenthe come in for Anichebe, purely on the basis that Vic isn't fit to start matches as we all know. The problem is that whoever players on the left wing causes a midfield imbalance as every winger we have is more suited to the right, so that's a tough one to work out.

Distin, Barkely and Rodwell should be fit enough for the bench as it's been a good few weeks of recovery for all of them. Only put them on the bench though if they're ready to play some part as we're weak enough as it is.

In terms of scoreline, who knows? The home crowd will no doubt expect a win, but we're all so impatient this season that any misplaced pass or backwards passing will lead to a negative atmosphere that Fulham will thrive off.

We desperately need to put in a good team performance and progress though. Going out of the cup would mean the apathy would increase ten fold and the season will really peeter out into a massive damp squib.

Vic--------------Fellani------------Saha

I think Distin will be back for this and straight into the starting 11. Rodwell too for the bench.

Cahill's goal will keep him in the side but I think Saha latest no show could be one to many for moyes and Vic may start up top.
Think he'll go...

               Howard
Neville heitinga Distin Baines
           Fellani Gibson
Donovan    Cahill.     Drenthe
               Anichebe

We most look like scoring in the last few mins when we resort to long ball and throw felli up there.our midfield has no quality at all going forward so I suggest we just bombard every team in the air and play without a midfield

                       Howard
Hibbert Neville Duffy Heitinga baines

Donovan Straq Vellios Fellaini Drenthe

A 5-0-5 Formation, absoloute wall at the back solid to get past and then 3 big fellas up front waiting for the long balls and Drenthe and Donovan ready to strike anything that falls loose.message for the back 5 is hoof it up at every opportunity. It is a bit different and revolutionary this formation but it could work

I would probably go for the same line up as against Blackburn but with Roy starting in place Vic.  That said, we were awful against Blackburn but I just can't see how we can switch it up - maybe Vellios for Saha too.

Fulham are in decent form and now look like they can score a couple, whereas we tend to struggle to break anyone down when we lose a goal.  I reckon 2-0 to Fulham unfortunately.

Deal!

I would be well up for seeing this team and it should also ensure we don't have to watch more strings of passes working progressively backwards until it goes back to Howard to launch upfield (as it would already have been in the first instance, hence saving time and giving us more time to launch more long balls)

Most think we'll win but I'm afraid to see I just cant see us winning. Never ceases to amaze me esp when we're so poor. Away teams know now that Goodison is more or less Gloomison these days and Fulham will come and frustrate us as have QPR and Bburn, play better and win. Fulham are confident right now.

No reason to use Hibbo at CB when we can use him as a RB over Neville. Hope he let's Duffy continue his good run of form. As for the game, we have won our last 3 at home against Fulham and hope to continue the streak. Rarely do I feel good about games but for some reason that is how I feel about this one. 1-0 to us compliments of Donovan or an OG.

No chance? I got away with it at least 10 times when i was 21 and living on the breadline. No shame in that whatsoever. At 24 i wouldnt do this now out of risk and also being financially better off. I see there is a principle but call someone a fucking scrounging cretin is harsh. I expect a low gate tomoro so we need a loud vibrant crowd and the more youngsters the better. Bit of a tangent but ...... sick of these boring old men chewing on a humbug with their arms folded and all they do is mutter "moyes no idea" and "osman shite", makes me feel so flat and depressed when theres no singing which is always. We need some kind of passion injection like a bad referee or a corner in the last minute for some to wake up. Is the love of Everton not enough to get behind the lads from the first minute?

Neville has to be RB if Duffy is playing. Great at helping
young inexperienced players as he has done with Coleman.

I think moyes withdrawal of Saha early in the last game showed his disappointment in his performance. It seemed to have an air of it all being over for Saha.
However I think he'll start tonight.. 1 to keep Vic fresh on the bench to come on later in the game and 2 Vic will be starting up top in a few days against city I imagine.

I think drenthe will start tonight and with no other options Cahill will no doubt start again.

I never like to tred on optimism on these boards but I think we can be positive while recognising they have some decent players. Much like us they have talent in some areas of the pitch while lacking elsewhere (I'd be happy to take Dempsey off their hands).

And let's not forget but for a terrible miss by Zamora we would've lost that last game.

I mostly just want us to find some form rather than caring about the opposition.

Would have prefered Drenthe to start ( is he injured?) Moyes is taking a chance here, realistically our season could be over if we lose tonight. On the other hand we whinge when he does'nt give youth a chance, coyb.

On the basis of one game?  I presume you want Saha and Neville gone based on their numerous poor games this season?

I agree to an extent though that they need to play well tonight if they want to stake a claim.

Wolves away last season he looked a good threat. We were playing well then, i think how poor we look in possession hinders his game tbh.

That's all i said. Let's face it, it's not their debuts. they have had cameo roles over the last few weeks and have not impressed. I remember when Coleman got his chance, he grabbed it with both hands and got into the team almost immediately

Yeah but to be fair Coleman had a chance to adjust by playing for Blackpool for a bit first.  I agree that they have a lot to do to prove themselves but it's not time to write them off yet imo.

We seem to keep making that mistake from corners. Letting people shoot from distance and it often leads to pressure as people get in the way of the shot and it drops inside the box in an unpredictable way leading to those kind of scrambles.

My half time assessment is that we should be out of sight by now. Fulham are very poor.
This has been the best performance from Fellaini all season. Donovan is very very good. The negatives are Cahill( totally anonymous) and Gueye (hopeless and hapless)

Actually wouldn't argue much, think Cahill has held and laid off well though.  Gueye has good ideas but it doesn't come off for him. He's Drenthe lite!  Games made for him second half!

Not been to bad a first half, given the way we've played recently. We really need to push on in the second half, they've had one shot and a penalty as far as I can remember?

If Baines can get a bit of quality on his crosses and we can make our set pieces count. Pissed off that AGAIN we've gone behind in a game though

Deserved win and good to see us play fairly well across the ninety minutes.

Fellaini, Donovan and Stracqualursi all deserve praise for their performances tonight.

in my opinion, good game, the best we have played in a long time, tried to pass about, tried to attack. a world of difference with Strac up top, he is willing to work his arse off, got the goal and cried so i am now in love

cahill played really well, he won a few free kicks, held the ball up, was so unlucky not to get the 3rd. just looked a million times more condident and great hold up with Landon at the end

Landon was boss. 2 assists and worked hard, created chances.

Fellis controll was superb

Baines had on off day, dissapointing as some of the chances to cross the ball in would have been met by Strac/Felli/Cahill i think, we needed good balls in today but ah well...next game!

Neville is awful, so so awful.

really pleased to hear the fans singing!! hope that will push the lads on, and confidence will be high for Tuesday. I will be in the street end joining in the chants!

Indeed on both counts ;) The commentary to be blunt about it is awful.

Im american, and I make it a rule to make as much effort as possible to avoid american commentary, it is shit, and incredibly bias...

I agree, Thom. I love Denis, amazing when he started crying. Even Vic was giving him the  :hail: when he came on for him.

A goal there would have made it a tie-game!

Tbh, I was waiting for Riise to score, just so I could hear a repeat of this... Riise freekick, funny American commentary (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EW2d-QrnFgA#)

I must have watched a different match to the rest of you , I thought it was awful ,

Compared to the vast majority of our performances recently, we controlled large amounts of the game and looked like we might actually score from attacks. The shadows from our recent playing style were still visible, but much better football was layered on top.

I for one am optimistic, if we can keep this up, we'll finish in the top half no problem. Just wish we had Donovan for the rest of the season :(

cahill definitely looks better with straq  then he does with saha. straq had very good hold up plays especially in 2nd half. donovan and felliani played great, gibson quietly good, it's good to see more passion in the team and  especially from straq when he scored !  :D

good performance from what was a tough game, two cracking headers from straq and felli provided by quality crossing by landon. atmosphere was good as well, its good to come away from a game without grumbling about something. fulhams support was shit though, can understand if it was a league game but it was the fa cup for gods sake

Was not at the game tonight due to "family commitments" - was really gutted when I realised Straq was starting as have bigged him up based on very little evidence but I just had a feeling he had something in him - was soooooo happy when I heard he scored. Great to see people seem to think he put in  a shift and really hope he gets a chance against City - so I can see him for more than 10 mins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
