Title: Everton v Chelsea
Post by: blob on February 07, 2010, 06:09:30 PM
we could really do with something from this one on wednesday.

it would clear the mind a bit after yesterday's crap.

is a point the best we can realistically hope for though?

Well, it's at Goodison, the players should want to atone for yesterday and Chelsea have not being playing especially well the past few games.

We have every chance.

I'd be pleased with a point and I think if the crowd are up for it (night games against the big 4 are usually good) then we are fully capable of getting at least a draw.

Im sorry but we are fully capable of achieving victory if we just go all out for once.

I really hope Fellaini is fit.
Tough playing without Pienaar, but he could use a break and come back fresh for Man U.
I guess Billya will start, and also hopefully Osman will have a good game, I hardly saw him yesterday.
Title: Re: Everton v Chelsea
Post by: Derek on February 07, 2010, 07:46:49 PM
Osman is a bit of a cypher. He scores some important goals but then he disappears for a few games.

We're due a win against these, but I thought that before our three encounters last season and we came away with two draws and a defeat. Always have a little too much for us and without Felli', we're fucked I think.

Howard

Coleman Heitinga Senderos Baines

Donovan Neville Rodwell Bilya'

Cahill

Saha

That's the team I'd like to see, Moyes giving the young lads a chance. Granted, Rodwell might get beasted in midfield but he can't do much worse than that dross on Saturday. We need to pass a lot more, get in their faces, chase everything down, be up for the fight and THEY need to give the loyal fans something to fuckin' shout about!

Everton 1-2 Chelsea
Title: Re: Everton v Chelsea
Post by: Abraders on February 07, 2010, 10:36:06 PM
This is what i want to see, a team i feel will have the quality to beat Chelsea. Providing we actually go for it.

                Howard
Coleman Heitinga Senderos Baines
                Neville
Donovan Rodwell Bilyaletdinov
            Saha Yakubu

Obviously though i hope Fellaini is fit, in which case him in for Rodwell.
BUT i don't even think Rodwell will be fit, so if neither of those are fit, then Arteta to start.

We need Chelsea to play poorly. If they do not then we have no chance.

And yes, I'm watching the Arsenal game now  ;)
Title: Re: Everton v Chelsea
Post by: blob on February 07, 2010, 11:32:33 PM
another way of looking at this fixture is to weigh up how many of theirs would we want in our team, and how many of ours might they want?

errr, realistically that helps to focus on the task facing us     :eh:

(on current form, I got to howard, considered fellaini, hoped arteta was fit, then gave up)
Title: Re: Everton v Chelsea

2-1

Saha, Cahill, Kalou.

Chelsea have only dropped points at home to us, but on the road they have been beaten 3 and soon to be 4 times.

Draw would be a good result.  Don't fancy it tho.  Lampard will no doubt score his customary screamer against us
Title: Re: Everton v Chelsea
Post by: ToxtethBlue on February 08, 2010, 02:12:52 AM
Rodwell and Arteta in midfield for me, we need two holding midfielders for this one, and there composure and ability to retain possession will be useful. I don't think it's beyond us, getting a decent result. The onus won't be on us to break them down and hopefully we'll hurt them on the counter attack.
Title: Re: Everton v Chelsea
Post by: Silas on February 08, 2010, 02:16:45 AM
A win is possible if we have the luck we had last time we played them coupled with a decent performance.  They are the hardest team to play against because they are so bastard organised and only need one chance.

Arteta or Rodwell for me, not both.  Neville to move alongside and Coleman to start.  I am hoping Bily is up for it because his goalscoring threat could be what we need.

I'm just hoping we can avoid any injuries or red cards.  Perhaps we can grind out a 0-0 or perhaps a 1-1, but I am not expecting anything other than being beaten like a ginger step child.
Title: Re: Everton v Chelsea
Post by: Derek on February 08, 2010, 07:13:47 PM
Chelsea were imperious against Arsenal.

Key to stopping them would be (I reckon) strong defence against their swift-counter attacks, preventing Malouda from doing his job, keeping Ashley Cole pressed and giving Drogba so little space his balls feel cramped

Title: Re: Everton v Chelsea
Post by: GLewis on February 08, 2010, 07:59:59 PM
If he's not there we'll really miss Fellaini as he's our only midfielder that can take their's on for power etc. Rodwell may do in the future, but I'd be concerned about him right now. And I definitely don't want a combination of him and Neville as we need to keep the ball.

Everton 0-4 Chelsea
                 Drogba (4)

seems pessimistic I know but if Drogba gets going he will rip our team to shreds. Though if he has an off day we might nick a point.

donovan                 bily

This month could turn out to be a living nightmare. This is the worst game we could have had following the derby (can't we play Sunderland again??) I hope we are good enough defensively not to crumble but can't see us keeping them out for 90 mins. I agree with this prediction (http://www.betfairfootball.com/premier-league/rampant-title-chasers-wont-slip-up-tonight/) and fancy us notching but conceding two or three at the other end.
Title: Re: Everton v Chelsea

Hard month indeed. But like I've said before, that's why we're in this league, to play games like this. They may have all come at once, but we have to play them at some point in the season. I don't see the problem with them all at once.

On a positive note, after this we have a fairly decent run to the end of the season. But I would rather have these games and a taste of Europe rather than us trailing to the likes of QPR, Boro or Plymouth.

2-2 for me tomorrow night.

Anyone can beat anyone in a one off game, just look at the FA cup giant slayings every year, but its damned unlikely.  In our last games played we were humbled by a 10 man Liverpool and they abused Arsenal.  We're without our 2 best midfielders and they are at full strength (I think).  If we get a draw I think that'd have to go down as a excelllent result for us and 2 points dropped for them.
Title: Re: Everton v Chelsea
Post by: top flight for a long time on February 10, 2010, 06:25:31 PM
Yes but we gave Arsenal a football lesson a few weeks ago.  Arsenal are not in a good state but they were not abused by Chelsea.  Chelsea scored a couple (corner and break) and then spent the rest of the game hanging on to the lead.  Add in the fact that some of their players are old(er) and it might be closer than you think.

Having two of our most influential players out is a problem though and a draw would be a good result.
Title: Re: Everton v Chelsea
Post by: GLewis on February 10, 2010, 07:40:16 PM
An alternative theory to this being the worst possible game, is that it could be the best providing that we have the right attitude.

If we were playing some no-mark side I think the temptation would be there fore the players to simply think that they would win easily anyway.

However, they are surely disappointed with how things went on Saturday and will want to put them right. The fact that it's going to be a very tough game will surely help to make sure that they're really up for it.

Plus we haven't beaten them for 10 years so law of averages......

I hope not, unless he's dramatically got fitter in the last few days.

I can't imagine the Sun's lineup to be accurate, but it'd be fun to see at least.

My guess is he'd either push Heitinga up and bring in Senderos or replace Fellaini with Rodwell. Neither of which I think would be a good idea I feel. We need Heitinga to stay put and personally I don't think Rodwell is commanding enough to be a DM yet.

We are not at the park yelling at the players are we?  get over it.

mate, too fickle - most of the pre match predictions from Everton "fans" were for a good hiding - as soon as we go the predicted goal down, everyones useless,

I am watching the game, and Everton are playing exactly the way they have played most of the season - poorly - but I remember playing rather poorly at Stamford Bridge a few weeks ago. 3-3 wasn't it ?

Neville is playing like a prick, the same Neville that according to most on here when he was injured was the reason we were playing poorly "didn't realise how much we miss him," "leader" and so on.

We are missing arguably our two best players this season tonight, thats not easy, nor is it an excuse - Everton have to just deal with it.

My point is, judge the performance after the final whistle, win, lose or draw.

oh look - 1-1  ;)

Saha is a lump.  Set up 3 times by The Don and converts only one.  Landon takes pks all day for USA and Galaxy.  It's what he does.  After Saha's first miss on the perfect through ball The Don should have taken his own PK.  Cech will have known nothing about him.

Poor from Saha, but great from the squad.

Its funny that none of our forwards inspire you with confidence when taking a penalty.

Saha just never looks right at his run up, does he? I assume they would discuss who takes the pens, so have to accept Moyes and team were OK with it.

Bugger, Chelsea owe us, they are no doubt a better side than us, but have been lucky against us too, we were robbed by the ref at Stamford bridge a few seasons back (McFadden) and Muto (s) for that diving handball winner in 2003 / 4.

Gotta say, I was mega happy last night. It felt like Christmas waking up this morning to see highlights and read reports.

Moyes was funny in his BBC interview after the game. Said Saha should have had four goals and so he only got a little nod of appreciation. He has work to do before he gets the pat on the back.
