I think we will see Pienaar come in for Drenthe and possibly Jags for Heitinga if he is showing any signs of that knee injury he looked to have picked up yesterday, as a precautionary measure.  Be a tough one this, if we could get back to winning ways it could be vital in how we go into the replay.  2-2 draw I think, Van Persie at the double for them, Cahill and Jelavic for us
Title: Re: Everton V Arsenal
Post by: dunkster on March 18, 2012, 05:05:28 PM
i think arsenal will tear us apart. The knock-on effect of our dismal defeat to liverpool has already began. there was no where near as much confidence running through the team against sunderland. Arsenal are the team i fear the most.

Draw or a heavy defeat I reckon.

I think we'll be lucky to get 2 points out of the next 2 games.

Arsenal are on a roll again and fighting to finish above Spurs. What price Arteta to score against us?

As for Swansea, they're playing without fear. No doubt we'll rest players ahead of the replay. I can see a weakened team with the likes of Anichebe getting beat about 2 or 3-0 at Swansea.

And I'm normally an optimist!

Always look forward to midweek night games at goodison, not against this time though. what a difference two games have made. all started when he decidedto play a poor team and loose momemtum.

Title: Re: Everton V Arsenal
Post by: Thom on March 18, 2012, 09:23:08 PM
With the form Arsenal are in currently, and especially Van Persie, I'd take a draw from this one. It's not ideal, but we'll do well to prevent them scoring on the counter attack; moreso since we're the home team and will be willed forward by the crowd.

The only change I can see happening is Pienaar replacing Drenthe unless, like Stealth said, Heitinga's knee keeps him out.

would like to see Pienaar come in for Drenthe and Gibson if fit to replace Coleman and push Osman out on the wing, if Gibson isn't fit play Drenthe over Coleman, but knowing moyes he will play Stracqualursi over Jelavic in this game

Howard Hibbert heitinga distin baines pienaar fellaini cahill drenthe osman jelavic.

was impressed with timmy when he dropped deeper on saturday, push osman forward, his little bit of creativity i think will be perfect for Jelavic.

1-1 Cahill COYB!

Title: Re: Everton V Arsenal
Post by: christiffa25 on March 21, 2012, 12:47:36 PM
I'm selecting on the basis that rodwell, Coleman Gibson and Cahill are injured

               Howard
Neville heitinga distin baines
            Fellani osman
Drenthe     Barkley   Pienaar
                 Jelavic

If Cahill is ok no doubt he'll start and Barkley will be on bench. Wouldn't be suprsised to see heitinga in midfield to give jags some mins. I'm hoping junior makes the bench tonight also.

From looking at (and listening to the analysis) of recent reserve games he seems to have been doing ok.

Even being the best player on the pitch in one of them!

Looking forward to going this tonight - have a wierd feeling although i think he's awful playing Victor might randomly work?

Stracq and Vic up front - bully the Arsenal back line - although this didnt work against Liverpool.......Maybe bring Jelly on late against tired Gunner legs.

It'd be nice to see a performance from Felli as well and bring him into the oppositions half more, and see us play less narrow and give less space down the wings as well as stop being the same static team we always are, as the mobility of Arsenal will capitalize on that no problem.

I'll go for 1-1.

starting 11 is quite obvious in my opinion.

                        Howard
Hibbert  Weir Duffy Jagielka  Baines
            Fellaini Rodwell Neville
                       Cahill
                      McFadden

Because Moyes is a negative twat innit.

Careful what you wish for but if we do go for a draw we'll get picked off in midfield esp as Arteta will know how the team plays.
Go 4-4-2 or an attacking 4-5-1 just grow a pair cos this negatvity needs addressing and have a go.

                                   Howard

                    Hibbert Heitinga Distin Baines
                                  Fellaini
                     Drenthe  Osman  Pienaar
                                    Cahill
                                  Jelavic

Although it seems narrow I'd have Fellaini in a four man midfield but drop back into a dm if needs be or vice versa.
Maybe change Cahill for Straq as that will give us some "beef" upfront against the arsenal defence. Plus felli can cover osman if he decides to go further up the pitch.

Reading that arsenal have averaged scoring 3.6 goals in their last 5 games so revised prediction:

Everton 5 Arsenal 4

Jelavic 2. Van Persie 4
Baines
Fellaini
Osman

We go 4-0 up, get pegged back to 4-4 then Osman scores a 90+6 minute winner and Wenger goes mental

Is Osman a leader?

I don't think he's even close to being an influential player for us, I've touted Heitinga to have the armband for a while now, it's daft not to make our most inspirational and passionate player not to mention our in form player!

Just a daft decision from Moyes.

Happy with the XI though.

That's why we should not hoof it this game. Hold possession and limit our offensive chances to counter-attacks and times with good build-up. If it isn't there we can't force it b/c that is probably how they are going to be playing us and they are more apt at capitalizing then we are.

Its built into a mac, you can dual boot both operating systems.

Goto Bootcamp in Utilities. You can move the slidebar for how much diskspace you want to dedicate to Windoze and then install as you would on a pc (pop Windoze disk in, follow prompts).

Its not emulation, so it will run exactly like a pc (ie crap after 3 years requiring a reinstall).

FUUUUUCK Drenthe offside.

We got smashed in the first 10-15 mins and we were lucky not to be 3-0 down. But credit to the players as we worked our way back into it and really should have got an equalizer but for the ineptitude of the linesman, that also took away two other great scoring positions.

Linesman needs to lock himself in a dark room tomorrow and write thousands of lines on the offside rule, the fucking moron.

First twenty minutes was absolutely shocking from us though. Credit to Arsenal for their start, but our passing and pressing was abject until Fellaini and Osman were switched, and even then it took Koscielny taking out our midfield for us to realise we're in a game.

Really need to up it more second half and start working Scezcesny though.

When Liverpool went 2 up l cant say l was as dissapointed as l normally am as l cant stand that cunt Hughes.

But when Liverpool ended up getting beat l couldn't help let out a huge. HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

The sweetest thing about it is is that if this happened last season and Hodgson was in charge they'd be absolutely doing their nut.

As it is it will "just be one of those things" under Kenny.

Chances of them finishing in a lower position than last year? Must be pretty high now l imagine, or if not, at least with less points.

If that goal had been given as it should it would've changed the complexion of the game. Arsenal were content to sit back after we found our feet. We were desperately missing options on the bench, I think all the changes made us worse.

I don't think Barkley is the solution to all our problems but I think he'd have been a better option to bring on for Osman.

Granted we should have had a goal, but other than that we didn't really create much. I think we had two shots on target and Jelavic is getting very little service at the moment.

We're still desperately short of inspiration and someone that can unlock a defence. Even towards the end of the game we didn't really look like a team pilling forward to try to get a result.

Feeling very frustrated, aside from the first 15 mins we competed with the premierships inform team and apart from an absolutely fucking pathetic call from the knobhead linesman would have taken a point or perhaps even more if the goal had rightly stood. Our forward play is still lacking something and our inability to get telling crosses in when well placed is also a concern, but overall not a bad performance.

Horrific referee and linesmen apart, we still weren't good enough. Jelavic was too isolated up front and on the rare occasions we actually had the ball we weren't good enough with it. We focused our attack down the left too much when Drenthe looked our most dangerous player. Changes should have been made sooner, Pienaar seemed more effective when moved central and Vic also looked dangerous when he came on. The game was totally passing by Cahill and Osman so would have liked to see changes made earlier.

Still at least we gave it a bit of a go 2nd half, which was much better than the 1st. The officials made it a very frustrating game to watch

Should of been out of sight in the first 15 to 20 mins but came back into and did ok but played decent second half but it's the same old story with us, too many in-decisions and picking the wrong option in the final third.

Moyesy as got to start coaching us to be more incisive with our passing in the final third so we can start picking out the right option, the right pass and cross that will create goal scoring chances.

Better tonight but attacking play is very limited.  Maybe try Pienaar off Jelavic as someone has mentioned.  Bring in Coleman or Gueye.  Or otherwise Barkley.  Forgotten about him.

I just had a look and on only 5 occasions have we scored more than one goal in a premier league game this season.  One occasion was 3 goals, the rest were 2 goals scored.  But I'm sure DM knows this all too well.  But would still rather a solid defence first!

Good game tonight some really good individual performances and deserved a lot more from the match - most incompetent assistant refereeing I've seen in a long time. Main issue is that we don't have enough players who can stick the ball in the net - midfield, aside from Drenthe, offer no goal threat and Osman was non-existent. Would love to put Swansea and Brendan Rodgers back in their box at the weekend as bored already of the new media darlings. Now thinking that overcoming Sunderland is a real possibility.

I've never been so frustrated with a match. We responded in the second half so so well. Every decision was going against us. The amount of times we were in the final third then a drop ball would occur or due to an injury they kicked it all the way to Howard.

Swansea will be a tough tough game away from home as well. I'd take a draw there if it was offered.

Can't help but think Jelavic needs a proper striker along side him, not a Stracqulursi or Anichebe, I mean a striker equal to him, forget Cahill, he's had his time and my fear is that we spends 3-4yrs trying to fill the void left by Cahill as we did with Carsley!

I was happy with the commitment and performance for most the 90 tonight but it's the final 3rd that's lacking now.

I thought EFC as usual played with a great deal of effort and team spirit this time against a superior team. But I do think this summer that a number of players should be replaced. The sad thing is that with maybe three new players the club could really challenge as there is a fine basis of a team. But I suppose that has been the case every year for the last few years. We all should be re-assured that the Chairman is working 24/7 on a plan.

Right back is an embarrassement. Hibbert is dross and should have been sold years ago. With one bloke up-front, it is essential that both full backs can support attacks. As for his passing and general defence...
Fellani is a fine defensive midfielder not an attacker but in order to accomodate Cahill, he gets moved up field where he looked off the pace. If we could get find a decent attacking central midfielder then that would do the trick.
I also agree that Jel needs a decent partner alongside him.

For the first 20 mins Arsenal played as well as any team as I've seen all season, they would have took anyone apart at that stage but when Felli and Cahill changed places we started to come back into the game . Some really shocking decisions by the Linesman cost us badly .. We'll never know how the game would have gone if Drenthe's 'goal' had stood . We are clearly lacking a few players if we want to challenge the top 4-6 teams , another ' Mikel' type ? another ' Cahill' a younger and fitter version of the one we've got . A Kyle Walker to supplement Drenthe on the right ... Hopefully Ross Barkley can fulfil one of those roles in time but money is needed to get this squad up to the level we were at in 2009 ... and more if we want to progress further.
Not a great result but Im not disappointed with the performance for the last hour .. We would have beaten most teams playing like that .. We come up against the most in form team in the league. Don't forget they have recently taken AC Milan apart 3-0 , a team who are favourites to win the Italian League

Hmmm. We had 6-7 offside calls against us that were wrong. Including a wrongly dissallowed goal. With those linesmen even Messi would've been flagged offside every time.

Some of our decision making is infuriatingly poor.

The two occassions that spring to mind were the breaks where the ball fell to Ossie and we had options ahead and to the side and it was passed straight through to the keeper. The other was the break with Pienaar and Drenthe. Again it fizzled out with Drenthe just lifting it over the defence and straight through to the keeper, again.

They were two excellent positions and we didn't come close to a shot in either of them. That's not an uncommon occurence.

Generally in the game I thought that we did ok.

The first 20 mins were poor.

We started with Ossie and Cahill man marking Arteta and Song respectively and it didn't work at all. Their movement made this tactic redundant.

Once we switched it around and put Felli further forward it was much better.

We were lucky not to be 0-3 down after 20 mins but then we were obviously unlucky not to be level after 45.

The second half was fine in terms of application but we just didn't have enough to create clear opportunities.
