Title: Everton vs Bolton Wanderers
Post by: Verm on March 14, 2010, 07:32:42 AM
Kick on from today's dissapointment and onto what should be a tough match against a side in a relegation battle and seemingly hitting a patch of form, won't want to under-estimate them.

--------------------------------------Howard------------------------------------------
Neville--------------Jagielka-----------------Distin-------------------Baines
-------------------------------------Heitinga-----------------------------------------
-------Anichebe---------------Arteta--------------------Pienaar----------------
-------------------------------------Cahill------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------Yakubu---------------------------------------

Bench;  Nash  Hibbert  Yobo  Rodwell  Gosling  Bilyaletdinov  Saha

SCORE;  Everton    3  -  1    Bolton Wanderers
----------------Yakubu--------------------Davies----------
----------------Cahill------------------------------------------
----------------Saha-------------------------------------------

This will be a much more difficult game than it would've been a little while ago.

They're scoring goals now and playing well.

Confident we can beat them, but it'll be another hard one, probably.

I sense a draw. Bolton are looking a different side.

We're just treading water now. Give more of the kids a run out.

I would never give up though :)

Should be easier to beat now they play more openly than they did before.

Agree that it'll be tougher than a lot of people think.
If we can find the form of the first twenty minutes at the Brummies, we should win this one.

No we are not!

Last 9 prem games, W6 L2 D1 - Moyes would be aiming to at least repeat this in our last nine games. Including the scalps of Man City, Man Utd and Chelsea!

Would should back ourselves to beat Bolton at home what ever their form.

He will play the inexperienced players as subs,or if forced to with injuuries. This is professional football and if you are good enough you will play.

I don't think Cahill deserves to start.

Howard
Neville Jagielka Yobo Baines
Heitinga
Anichebe Rodwell Arteta Pienaar
Yakubu

The key to winning this game will be chosing the right man to keep Davies quiet (Distin for me), and Baines stopping Lee down their right. I'd got with Vermillion's line-up and play Cahill over Rodwell as their centre backs are weak in the air. 2-0 to us.

are bolton still a physical team? if so, then i expect a tough game as our lightweight midfield don't seem to cope well with the rough and tumble tactics.
funny how we seem to be a little like arsenal now, as in if we are given space and time on the ball we can play some very decent football, but when teams become physical we aren't anything like the team we should be.

against hull, it was highlighted what happens when you allow arteta and pienaar time and space on the ball. but yesterday, it was as if MacLeish told his guys to get right at us the moment arteta and pienaar got the ball. also they thought nothing of doing petty fouls over and over again to stop us playing.

It's at home, so we'll turn back the clocks to an Ajax '70 performance.

Howard

Neville Jagielka Heitinga Baines

Rodwell Arteta
Gosling...................... ..............Pienaar
Bilyaletdinov

Saha*
*if not fit, Yakubu

14-0 Everton. In fact, 14-1, we're scared of clean sheets.

its bolton and i think we will need Heitinga in midfield for this (if only we had felli :( )
------------------------Howard-----------------
Neville--------Jagielka-----Distin----Baines
------------------Heitinga----Arteta---------------
Victor----------------------------------------Pienaar
------------------------------Cahill--------------------
------------------------------Yakubu-----------------

worst thing we could do is start Saha imo

yakubu has 2 in 3 and could of had about 4 againest hull, if we drop him then his head would drop and such
so id bring saha off the bench later in the game,

My heart says 4-0 with goals from yakubu 2, Pienaar and Victor but my head says 2-0 Yakubu and Victor

its a shame i wont be able to watch this (even though its a saturday and i havent missed a saturday game in about 1 and a half years) because its my sisters 21st :( i also miss the A-League Grand final too :(

oh well COYB!

That said, Chung yong lee is a real threat. We need to watch out for him.

Phil Brown alone makes Hull worse than Bolton. But Hull also don't carry the same quality of players, Johan Elmander, Lee, Davies, Jaskalainen are all better than any player Hull can put on the field. I'm sure I've forgotten a few, either way we should beat these as they're terrible on the road, they're just scoring at home now because of Coyle.

I agree. Bolton are better, just not twice as good. They're both shitty teams struggling to maintain top flight football.

I have zero time for Bolton. It feels like they've been hanging around the PL for way too long now and I've never really seen them do anything remotely interesting.

It may change under Coyle with investment, but we'll see. He's yet to prove he can build a team that can defend AND attack all in the same game.

At home, so expect us to flourish again, after a difficult start first 20 minutes.

Has Donovan gone now?

Howard
Neville Heitinga Jagielka Baines
Anichebe Arteta Cahill *Rodwell* Pienaar
Yakubu

**Osman instead of Rodwell, if he's fit.

He's always been a top notch goalkeeper, and I really have no idea why he's been stuck at Bolton for all these years.

I think it was his choice to be honest.  Like Le Tissier at Southampton he seems to love it there.

The midfield might look a little light against a physical Bolton team, but I am banking on us being able to pass our way through the game.

Perhaps a few weeks of training?

I still think its a bit ridiculous that certain players go straight back in regardless of how long they've been injured. Neville, Arteta, Cahill, etc etc.

I don't think its a coincidence that we lose Donovan (someone with pace) and we look almost as stale (or one dimensional) as we were early in the season.

Certainly a shame Vaughan isn't here today.

Hopefully we can work with what we've got though and figure out a better way to play.

Also I have a feeling there could be at least one red in the game. Hopefully it'll be them and not us though.

We just have no rhythm whatsoever since Vic went off.  Mistimed passes, poor running off the ball, unable to get the ball under control.

We need to get Arteta on the ball more.  I'd probaby take Cahill off and put Saha on 2nd half, as Cahill's way off the pace.

I think we should all be a little happier than we seem to be showing beating a team who has won 3 out last 4 games, and are well versed in digging in and carving out draws.

We won 2-0, looked like tearing thru them in last 10 minutes every time we had the ball, and have now overtaken Birmingham with same games played.

Next realistic target is 5 points to gain on Villa if they lose game in hand, or 6 points to RS.

Not a good game by any stretch of the imagination.
But most importantly we won.

Some credit must go to Gretar Steinsson for getting himself sent off, but we should have won it regardlessly.
Leon Osman really showed intent when coming on.

6 points to RS

That will be the 6 points they got off us then?

Bolton manager Owen Coyle:

"Yakubu took a great touch across Gretar Rafn Steinsson and invited Steinsson to come onto him. If there's a collision there's not a lot of contact, but Mr Wiley deemed it a red card.
"To rub salt into the wound, because I believe it was a contentious decision, Mikel Arteta was allowed to take the free-kick four yards closer than he should have been.
"I don't agree with the decision and with then allowing Arteta to bring the ball forward to the arc, with the quality he's got.
"We carried on the fight, accepting that Everton had chances, but I'm disappointed to leave with nothing. I felt we offered an awful lot to the game."

Bitter much? :) Just how I like it.

That's only 1 of the games!  It would be a 12 point swing if we'd won both games.

This is the only thing they brought to the game as far as I could see -

Noooooo. We'd lose the 6 points we got against Man U and Chelsea.  :o

that would be liquidation, we would keep point in administration and they would be deducted points as a pentaly for allowing it to happen, now having points taken away from games played.
