Title: Everton V Portsmouth Official Thread
Post by: Sharky on May 03, 2010, 02:34:30 AM
Ok there might not be much to play for now seeing as we cant go higher or lower than our current postion of 8th.

Portsmouth havent anything to play for and with their FA Cup final next week could well rest their "better" players.

So what team do we play? Do we go out and try to finish this season on a high and smash them for a cricket score? or do we throw some of the younger players in at the deep end?

Howard

Baines
Jagielka
Duffy
Hibbert

Baxter
Arteta
Rodwell
Anichebe

Yakubu
Saha

Not that this will happen but i'd like to see that team.
Hibbo to be given all pens and freekicks and to be pushed up front in the last 80 minutes.

               Nash
Neville  Duffy  Senderos  Bidwell
  Wallace  Osman  Forshaw
   Agard  Hibbert  Baxter

I bet that team will put up more of a fight than the seniors did on Saturday!!

Everton 7, Pompey 4.

Boateng x3, Dindane, Neville x3, Hibbert x4.

I would be tempted to put Neville and/or Hibbert up front.

I'd be tempted to put Neville in a taxi to Manchester, along with the original receipt...

Yes, should give at least a handful of the kids a run out, and try something different upfront (Vic on his lonesome, maybe, with an attacking midfield behind him - preferably including someone who can give him a through ball)

And, the club should declare May 9th official no-hoofing day - will have to make our defenders play without boots like, but still.  Maybe we could sponsor the players, raise some pennies to buy Carlo Nash a couple of tubes of ointment for his piles.

Fuck knows, this season's been weird hasn't it?   :eh:

It would be a riot to see Hibbert score, wouldn't it   ;D

In truth, I reckon it might be another bore draw...just to rub salt in the wounds of the Stoke game.

If that happened - and Liverpool lose again - I might avoid the spitting vitriol by giving the site a miss for a couple of days!!

Nothing like being positive :)

End the season on a high would be nice.

Can't see Pompey putiing up much of a fight with the Cup Final in mind.

And it would be great to play some of the young ones like Baxter and Duffy once the game has been put to bed.
And even better to see Hibbo score.

Have very good memories of this same last match a few years ago when Manny was still playing for us, sigh..

So you weren't the slightest bit excited when Rodwell slotted the third against United? Or Saha scored the second against Chelsea?

In all seriousness though I can understand Cantoffie's sentiment as it does sometimes feel even when we do "go for it" we do it with the handbrake on. So with in game with nothing at stake we may as well try a couple of things.

Pompey should never have been relegated given how well they can play when they want to.

We might as well go for it. All is lost now anyway. Can't be caught, can't overtake anyone.

Attack, attack, attack. Pompey are done and dusted and have an F.A Cup Final in mind. Give the fans a good send off for the season. If we start with one up front in this game I'll be pissed.

Hibbo to score a pen.

I don't see 1 up front as a problem.

You could have 5 up front and it wouldn't make a difference if the attitude wasn't to attack.

I agree with the sentiment that we should be really having a go though.

I'd like to see a pretty strong team with whoever the management think is the most ready youngster given a game.

Hibbo deffo on pens though.

I'd say it was 50-50 between Rodwell and Ossie.

Rodwell seems to be still at his most effective as a sub, plus Osman will be more disciplined and allow Arteta more freedom.

Although if it's the other way round I wouldn't complain.

They should never have been relegated. They're much better than that suggests.

I know mate. It's all down to Harry Houdini's financial rapings, and their general ineptitude in the board room. On the pitch they play good football, and have good players, as their place in the FA Cup final would suggest.

Nevertheless, at home, on the final day of the season, against a team who do have a cup final to play... They shouldn't be getting close to our goal.

Fucking hell. The bottom team in the league are giving us a spanking.

Hard to remain optimistic for next season, when in all likelihood we'll have no better, or even worse a squad for 10/11.

There are 40k paying fans who might have something to say about a load of kids being sent out there.

That's a fair point...but I did say 'some of the kids', not 11, or a bunch of them.

On the other hand, do you think our paying fans would be really disappointed to see DM trying out a few new things, with next season in mind?

Point 2.) You were on about the threads commentators talking about how we were playing rubbish, I am one of those so called commentators and I said we were playing great. We've struggled to break down teams ever since our return to form, although I think with Fellaini back it'll give our other players more freedom to get forward, although a bit of pace in the side would help stretch teams a bit. Still seem to lack a top class striker though, and I see no sign of one coming to us unless Anichebe turns into Drogba over the summer.

So we need more steel in the midfield to allow our midfield forward, and pace out wide. With Pienaar leaving we will need a left sided player. We can score goals so need a striker too.
In other words, we doomed for next season too.

Not doomed, but I really don't see how people think we're contenders for 4th next season. I'd say 7th or 8th once again. Donovan and a striker would make it interesting, I prefer Yakubu to Saha but the problem is yak can play great link up but doesn't seem to be scoring anymore.

It makes it even harder to swallow. West Ham, Stoke & Wolves twice each to name but a few would have got us 4th easily.
