Title: Sunderland v Everton
Post by: Shogun on April 17, 2013, 09:03:44 PM
Again, just so the forum doesn't look so bare without a sticky!

Been looking at Sunderland forum (ReadyToGo) last few games and they're very confident of ending their hoodoo against us on Saturday, not surprising really because they're confidence couldn't be much higher after beating Newcastle away 3-0 but hopefully we bring them back down to Earth.

Must win game for me, I think we have to win all our games and I'd pick the same team as against Arsenal assuming that Osman is injured.

I'm not sure on this one. Di Canio's a nutter. He's got them all fired up. I do think though, we have definitely stepped up on the having to battle for everything front. We can win there, but they are going to fight like a wounded Animal. I just hope we don't pick up any major injuries. I doubt it's going to be a pretty game.

Think it will be important for our players to go into this match expecting to get a very tough and competitive game. If we go into it thinking they will roll over and play dead we will surely get a similar match to what Wigan did to us in the FA Cup.

Luckily for us Newcastle already gave us a perfect example of what can happen if we take this game lightly. Think our boys will be playing inspired after drawing at the Emirates and hopefully some results will go our way this week to continue to fuel the fire that there is hope for Europe.

Going to this one.

I'd start the same team as against Arsenal, maybe start Jelavic over Anichebe. I think he could thrive off the style of Barkley's play just behind him.

2-0 to us.

Osman for Barkley with Felliani further forward. Barkley on second half with Jela if not working with 20 to go.

Hmmmmmm...got bad vibes going ahead of this game.
But then I usually do.
But this is different!
They need the points as badly as we do (more so?)
Di Canios first home game.
Just beat the Skunks 3-0.
EVERYTHING seems loaded against us here.

It's not a case of that, it's a case of not being able to get a full season out of him (or Gibson).  This is why Barkley is important.  Osman will still have a role to play for years to come.

Cant help but think, due to our great record against sunderland, with them ending their hoodoo at the sports direct arena (pmsl) and di canio having them fired up, they will no doubt see this as the game to finally end the hoodoo we have over them.

Really got a shite feeling about this game, seriously hope we dont bottle it.

Supposed to give them extra support where they need it most! ;)

On a more serious note, they are monitors that can track heart rate. Some versions have more complex functions but most of them at their most basic levels will measure HR

It would be a blow no doubt about that. But Jonny has hit a bit of form recently. if he can continue where he left off, before being benched we should be ok at the back

Not surprising that Osman is back in with Jagielka being out as he's third choice captain.

I also wonder if Moyes thought that it may be tough for Barkley today with the home crowd being vociferous with it being Di Canio's first home match... not that I'd agree with him if that's the reason.

Sunderland: Mignolet, Rose, N’Diaye, Larsson, Graham, Colback, O’Shea, ©, Johnson, McCLean, Cuellar, Sessegnon

Subs: Westwood, Kilgallon, Vaughan, Mangane, Mandron, Marrs, Laidler

Not an expert on Sunderland formations but I think that'll be:

Mignolet
Colback Cuellar O'Shea Rose
Johnson N'Diaye Larsson McLean
Sessegnon
Graham

They have no recognised right back so Colback should be playing right back I think. Hopefully Baines and Pienaar get at him.

It was a bit of a nothing half until that mistake. We didn't really create much of anything. We seem to lose a lot with Fellaini back in the middle. We do look more secure but nothing is sticking up front.
Title: Re: Sunderland v Everton
Post by: AidyEFC9 on April 20, 2013, 09:50:41 PM
I know it's hard to put in similar performances within a matter of days but we've been very lack luster today!. Slow in possesion, no penetration, no real closing down or snap to challenges.

And very unlike Bainesy to give ball away in that position but for me Howard should be saving that!.

Watching today you wouldn't think we was going for a European place!. We look like a team who's safe and not playing for anything.

Anichebe as carried on from Tuesday and done fuck all, he hasn't worked hard, not done enough to hold ball up, not won an header. Pienaar as been sloppy in possesion, Mirallas as been quiet, we haven't got Coleman or Baines into the game in the final third, and tbh, i think we went more off the pace when we switched Osman and Felli 25-30 mins into the game!.

Every other team is putting up a fight for 4th and we are strolling around thinking about where to go on holiday.  We havent even been unlucky, we have been sloppy in possession, our  first touch is awful, we are pulling out of 50-50 challenges and letting Sunderland players run past us.  Too many long balls and total lack of anything creative.

Osman is clearly playing through the pain here so get him off, for either Jelavic or Barkley, and make someone else captain. It's doing us no good having a player on the field who can't offer anything substantial with his groin strain.

How frustrating is this?!!. We've just had a spell on the ball but done fuck all with it. were so slow on ball when in possesion and have no real movement and the ball always ends up going backwards and played along the back for ages!. Rubbish!.

And how comes every corner we have, Bainesy as put it into Mignolet's hands?!. Every corner!. We haven't even got men in  around him to stop him catching it, its an easy catch for him everytime!!.

And get Anichebe off for Barkley cos he is just shite!. Don't get why people wank themselves to death over him cos he'll have a couple of mins every 10 chasing about and stuff?!!.

Pass back from Sunderland flying over keepers head. Keeper catches ball, not a penalty just a very close free kick with minimal chance of scoring.

4. denies the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by deliberately handling the ball (this does not apply to a goalkeeper within his own penalty area)

He's limited in ability we all know that, but work rate is a given in football, it's expected of you but he only does it when he fancies it, it's not good enough!. We all slag Suarez off and hate him but he never stops, doesn't give a lost cause up and works for the 90, that's what i expect from any Everton player!.

And not only that, Suarez as got the quality to go with it!. Just like Rooney, Tevez, Aguero, all technically brilliant but work there bollocks off!.

Anichebe as the touch of a donkey, the movement of a stiff and for a lad his size, he is one weak cunt!

If what he bring to the team and what he does is acceptable for you then fine, but to me, he isn't good enough for us and is shit. A couple of weeks where he's worked slightly harder, summat he should do anyway, doesn't change my mind about him!.

What's wrong with Bainaar?
And did Mirallas even touch the ball in the second half.

Match really fizzled out and passed us by (check the possesion).

Moyes should give in his resignation now and give that other useless f***ker kenwright time to get a replacement.   He's virtually said it's Europe or he's off.  Right, so just f**k off now.   A must win game -- and the team plays with absolutely no attacking intent, no aggression, no variation.  Not one real effort on goal.  An absolute joke.  Sunderland had nothing to offer but hard work -- and our manager had no answer to something as basic as that.

There is a lot of reorganising to do at Everton in the summer, and Im not just talking about Moyes position. We have an aged squad, and its clear some of the players really should be moved on.

Pienaar, Naismith and Jelavic in particular stand out as three we must replace, even before we start looking at some of the players who are reaching an age of diminishing returns.

Obviously with Neville confirmed as gone, Distin and Hibbert not getting any younger, talk of Fellaini leaving anyway in the summer...Im getting a headache just thinking about this.

Not posting this as a knee jerk to the actual game (apart from Pienaar and Jelavic), we just had an off day, but we are going to have to do some wheeling and dealing in the summer.

Hopefully we wont spend the whole transfer period looking for a new manager.

Need to see something from Jelavic soon. All he did today was moan about fouls that werent given instead of trying to change the game

I'm calling time on Naismith now. He really is awful. Zero confidence in himself and its there for all to see. Constantly given a go from the bench and never does anything positive. I was patient with him earlier in the season but its been too long now

Oviedo deserves at least to be given a 10 min sub appearance ahead of him.

I think Pienaar needs to go, he has lost a massive amount of penetration he used to bring to the team, and his pace has been lost plus doesnt have the physical build to compensate.

Dont agree with Gibson, he wasn't great today but I think he has something to offer, and even if he falls short our list of players to replace should be full before we get to him.

How many seasons you think Distin and Hibbert have in them?

Fellaini may go in the window, Neville already is gone.

Massive job to do at Goodison in the next few months.

I think with Pienaar he just needs to keep eating all of the bread including the crust and instead of praising God in the form of a slogan on his t shirt he needs to start praying to him that his dreadlocks grow back!

Right seasons over weve finished 6th. Sell Fellaini, Neville, Naismith, Osman, Heitinga for a combined 30mil

Sign Negredo,Fer, McCarthy, Straq, Cavani, Witsel and a good young CB and lets go again next year!without that shitty new clipart badge!

Im one of his biggest fans but he really has been pants for the majority of this season. His lightweight frame has never hindered him before as he had pace and trickery. The trickery isnt there any more, and he has no real pace.

He mislays passes all the time, no longer carries the ball forward, and the linkup with Baines isn't there any more, maybe as teams are managing Baines much better now.

We never got the real Pienaar back from Spurs imo.

Pienaar is just a player who plays as well as he is motivated. If he doesn't care his play clearly represents that. When he is inspired and really tries he is pure class. Unfortunately this trait is what made most people sour on him when we sold him to Tottenham and what ultimately led them to sell him back to us.

Because Mirralas is that 'special moment' kind of player, when pienaar is off it were effectively playing without wingers.

Dont understand the change in tactics either, Baines and Coleman seem to be playing as proper defenders and not getting forward.

Dont really understand what Moyes' beef is with oviedo and barkley, its beyond a joke. Everyone at everton has the most cushty jobs in the world its madness. Dont understand why he continues to bring Naismith on in the 75th minute despite him never doing anything. See ya later moysey

Yes, that barkley lad who was probably our best player against arsenal. As opposed to one of the teachers pets osman, who obviously wasnt fit.

And in regards to Oviedo, he can play left mid. Players can play in different positions you know? look at teachers pet #1 Neville. But no everyone would rather see pienaar play despite recent form just because he's been good in the past.

The mongs on this thread. We lost. We weren't great up front. It happens. Our squad is small and we would struggle towards the end of the season. Our players are tired and need a break. Pienaar hasn't been great but Baibes has been just as woeful. Even caused the goal today with help from a woeful Howard.

Pretty sure the letter of the law is just a yellow for a keeper that handles a back pass. Just b/c the ball was goal bound doesn't make it a red.

The law is a handled "back" pass is a yellow card.

In this instance it was a blatant, deliberate act of cheating to prevent a goal. Any other type of infringement would have resulted in a red card as he purposely stopped a goal through an infringement.

The ref was right but the law should be amended. It's anomalous that for that one type of offence that a player can perform a deliberate action that stops a goal knowing that it's only going to result in a yellow card and an indirect free kick.

Why is it fair if it stops a goal/goal scoring opportunity?

If it's deliberate how is it different from someone trying to make a tackle but ending up bringing someone down?

I'm not talking about this game.

I'm talking about the rule.

Why is the rule fair?

It's the only incident where a deliberate indiscretion that prevents a goal/scoring opportunity isn't punished with a red card.

As I said it's anomalous.

Oh loads over-react. For the most part yesterday I think many of the players were just physically exhausted, the goal came from an error we made and that would prove decisive in the end

Second half we dominated and they barely had a sniff. We were playing a side with their tails up who had more time to rest and prepare than us before the game, it was always going to be tough

Our gamechangers (Pienaar, Mirallas particularly) had off days. Was just really frustrating that we barely created any chances (and I mean real chances before Major Clanger gives me his definition of a chance  ;))
