Title: Deadline Day January 2015
Post by: Simon Paul on February 01, 2015, 08:29:17 PM
All in here ladies and gents...

This is likely to be the shortest Deadline Day thread of NSNO's history, but you never know!

Me and Bally will be doing a LIVE deadline day podcast again from 10pm tomorrow night, just in case we bring anyone in but at the very least we can talk about who signs for other clubs as the clock reaches 11.

Tune in just before 10 to hear me and Bally practise our surprised voices for when we have signed nobody: http://mixlr.com/nsno/ (http://mixlr.com/nsno/)

Looking at that Carlos Gil for Villa £3m or so would have been an ideal replacement for Pienaar, same type of player, pops up all over the place.

Got linked with him last year.

He looks a good player, but he'll get found out eventually

Maybe, maybe not but we will have to start looking for a replacement sooner rather than later for Pienaar, he never seems to be fit lately.

We probably do need a player or two like, but I'm glad it's been a quieter window generally. I find the way English clubs try to buy their way out of trouble or to success fairly depressing and alienating and I still sort of believe in a manager training his players to be better, and developing young players.

Think the window should be closed, and teams should have to stick with the players and managers that they start the season with (if that's permissible under employment law?).

I'd rather she was wearing nothing. :)

I reckon Sky will be shitting it a bit, they've pushed Deadline Day for weeks now yet there seems to very few transfer rumours going around and seems unlikely that there's going to any big deals done. The odd loan here and there and a few lower league journeymen moving around seem to be the highlight of the day.

More from Andy Hunter, this time on Everton.

Roberto Martinez is prepared to wait until the last moment to see if an established goalkeeper becomes available, although Tim Howard’s imminent return from injury may postpone a move in that department until the summer. Howard has been sidelined since Boxing Day with a calf problem but could be in contention to return against Liverpool on Saturday, although Joel Robles has deputised better than anticipated in his absence and reduced the pressure for back-up. The Everton manager has denied that Cardiff City’s David Marshall is one target under consideration.

Talk down here that Tim Cahill could join a Premier League club, but they aren't naming names.
They're also saying that should that not happen, a move to the middle eastern or Chinese.

Frankly, he'd be better off staying at New York if he didn't come to the Prem.

...and should he return to us, I'd be all for it, as I could see him being used sparingly on the pitch but a real asset behind the scenes.

Absolutely. I'd rather we brought no one in than Cahill. He'd be in danger of undoing all the good he did in the past if he came back and tried the Premier League again, not just if it was with us but at any club, people remember the player he was five years ago and not the one who fell off the edge the year before he left. Plus he's still got a three game ban hanging over his head hasn't he? He can come in and work for nothing behind the scenes of he wants to keep himself fit but I can't see the point in paying him a wage.

NO DEAL FOR JANUZAJ

Our Manchester United reporter James Cooper has given us an update on the future of Adnan Januzaj, who has been linked with a loan move to Everton. That one is a no-go according to our man.

He said: “I’m told categorically that Adnan Januzaj will remain a Manchester United player throughout this window. He’s not going to go anywhere on loan.

“There was certainly speculation he might find his way to Everton – one of the clubs that have been named this morning in the last few hours.

“But I’m told he will be remaining here and that backs up what PSG said. They made an enquiry earlier in the window and they were told he would remain at Manchester United and that’s the case.”

Ah well ey lads. Was a nice thought.

I'd have Cahill back if he is returning to the Prem as it would mean he didn't tarnish himself by joining another Prem team.

But if he isn't coming back to the Prem, I wouldn't have him.

However it would be great if he came on in the derby and bagged a winner in Slippy's last season.

Unlikely. When Joe Kinnear became Newcastle manager several years ago, he was still made to serve a 2 game touchline ban which he had been charged with when he was Nottingham Forest boss 4 years before.

He'd have gone from struggling to get in the Hibs side to a much higher level.
Yeah great for him, providing he gets picked of course, otherwise he is just training with worse players

His career really has stalled tho hasnt it? He was a first teamer at 16 in spl, now he struggled at hibs

Yeah, I think around October/November of 2012 there were stories that he was very close to getting his 1st team debut but since then he seems to have slid quite far down the list.

Getting a chance somewhere like Cardiff could be the spring board he needs.

DONE DEAL!

Wilfried Zaha has rejoined Crystal Palace from Manchester United on a permanent basis with the England winger believed to have signed a five-and-a-half-year contract. The player had moved to Old Trafford two years ago for an initial £10m, returning to south London at the start of this season on a season-long loan. The fee to make that return permanent is thought to be around £3m plus numerous add-ons, with Palace having already paid a loan fee back in August to secure the player.

From Football Italia hahaha

"There are sensational reports that Samuel Eto'o could be set to tear up his Sampdoria contract, just six days after signing.

The former Everton striker is believed to have walked out of training today, refusing to take part in a double training session.

Coach Sinisa Mihajlovic imposed the double workout as punishment for his team's display in a 5-1 defeat to Torino yesterday."

Haha. If he has been causing trouble in the dressing room then Mihajlovic isn't a guy to take it lightly. He'd sooner roundhouse kick him.

Point is, it would be crazy to let Distin go without bringing in someone better than Alcaraz, capable of doing a job for us. Blackett's simply not proved himself yet. Corluka for Distin would make more sense, but that seems like a long shot even if we are interested.

If we were to have a punt on Blackett I wouldn't be too disappointing. If nothing else he is young and has Premier League experience. I just hope we get someone in.

No. The lad has always been a bit Yobo at times, completely one-footed and no dominance in the air for his frame. Also, he's too old and he's past it. Cost us a lot of goals down the years and he's never worked in a partnership with Jagielka.

He was signed as a replacement to Lescott in 2009 to "steady the ship". Why he's here five and a half years later I don't know.

Sorry, but in my opinion he's never been good enough for us, and always been seconds away from a disasterous fuck up.  Add this to the rumours that he's been the cunt in the camp with Etoo (which would seem to have some substance given we've been trying to ditch them both this window).

Never liked him in the same way I never liked Neville, and I don't like McGeady.  Not because Neville was a manc or anything like that.  Just because I think they are shit players and never good enough for us.  As I say, opinions.

'C3PO headed twat'? This is how you like to treat a player who has given his all for the football club over the last 5 seasons?

He's been a tremendous player for us and has saved us x amount of millions by continually proving us all wrong that he's too old to rely on. It's caught up with him this season, but he should be treated a hell of a lot better than that.

Title: Re: Deadline Day January 2015
Post by: Ross on February 03, 2015, 12:01:03 AM
He's had his moments of madness over the years but really for £5m he was a great replacement for Lescott and formed a very solid back four for a number of years, age or something else seems to have effected him this season and we look a lot more solid with Stones next to Jags. If he goes I'd wish him well at his next club and be grateful with how his time here went because when he signed I expected him to be around for a couple of years at most, but he's pratically been un-droppable for us up until this season.

If that has offended anyone, I apologise, but as I say, I've never liked him and as Lizz herself said "mainly because of his attitude on twitter and to the fans at the end of games etc".  I actually met him about 3 years ago, with a group of kids, and he was a right arrogant prick.

If that has offended anyone, I apologise, but as I say, I've never liked him and as Lizz herself said "mainly because of his attitude on twitter and to the fans at the end of games etc".  I actually met him about 3 years ago, with a group of kids, and he was a right arrogant prick.

Getting wound up by the way someone acts on Twitter is a bit OTT. I couldn't care less how he acts on Twitter or how arrogant he is, he's been a great player for us.

I make my judgments on players' performances on the pitch, not on Twitter.

The great centre halfs we've had down the years, to be honest, Distin (or Jagielka to be fair) aren't fit to lace their boots.  As someone that grew up watching the likes of Ratcliffe, Mountfield, Watson, then latterly Weir, Gough, Lescott, even Stubbs, I think it's criminal that we've had such an accident prone centre half as 1st choice for so long.

John Stones on the other hand could prove to be the best we've ever had.  Wonder if we could inject some of his stem cells into one of the youth team?

Not even sure how Newcastle would get rid of Ashley. Would not turning up for home games even have that much effect, cos of all the additional Sky/BT money he's filtering away every season? Not even sure he'd be that arsed about losing some match day revenue.

Distin has been a very good player for us overall bar the odd screw up but which defender never makes mistakes? - until this season anyhow as his form has dropped of a cliff, seems very much like he's lost the mental side of the game this season. Shame but if we can replace him then I'm happy to see him leave.

On a side note I've always thought Mirallas looks a bit like this guy from Ice Age. Just getting that in there in case he goes to Spurs....

No complaints with Lennon on loan.  Yes he lacks an end product 1/3 of the time but his sheer pace will be important for us especially on the counter.  He has years of PL experience and isn't without skill, he also does his defensive duties really well.

Be boss seeing us with a bit of width. One of the main reasons we've struggled is the lack of it, allowing the oppo defence to stay compact while we try and play through it with players who aren't good enough.

As a far more suitable professional role model for Rom to follow? Plus Rom needs to work on his heading. ;D

Agreed he's never going to be a starter in most circumstances, but impact sub on occasion and motivator in the dressing room would be his role I reckon. Might give the crowd a bit of a lift too when he makes his comeback.

Like Shogun says, I don't see how we can lose.

Lennon is a no brainer - we've been desperate for another winger to play opposite Kev, and Lennon is more than capable. His pace can get the crowd up and if he can quickly gain some confidence and get a run of games, could turn out to be a blinder. If it doesn't work out, nothing lost and off he goes in the summer.

Yeah, and that makes for an extremely dangerous right hand side. Rather than at the moment where teams are just doubling up on Coleman. He's an outlet that we've needed all season. He can come in and have a Delofeu role from last season, absolutely crucial to have pace in that team.

Yeah, and that makes for an extremely dangerous right hand side. Rather than at the moment where teams are just doubling up on Coleman. He's an outlet that we've needed all season. He can come in and have a Delofeu role from last season, absolutely crucial to have pace in that team.

That's one version of how it could go. Another version would have him running down blind allies, losing the ball easily, picking the wrong options in the final third, over and underhitting crosses and drifting out of games very easily.

Possible with absolutely any winger we sign though. There's a risk with any signing, Lennon seems a reasonable one to take given what we have been lacking.

Think we needed a wide link player much more than a winger. Anyway, hopefully i'm completely wrong and he's a storming success.

Of course it could. I think it's a good signing though, I hope he'll have something to prove and make a positive impact on the team. It's good to get some new blood in there.

I just really hate these one dimensional over hyped shite England players with no technical abilities or skill. They sum up English football at its worst - tearing around at 100 mph and swinging in cross after cross. I like to watch technique and skill and was hoping we would really move in that direction strongly under Martinez.

Yeah it's a far cry away from the initial world wide football contacts that was portrayed but maybe Martinez just wants someone who know the league and can give us some width and pace over the short term, and his uncut diamond could appear in the summer like Besic has this summer.

I appreciate that. I will support him of course. I still like McGeady and I don't think there are many of us about. It's just a bit underwhelming that's all. And I'm a bit confused over the Atsu situation too (I hoped to see more of him). And with the fact Lennon can't play in the UEFA.

They're comfortably off and run a tight ship, probably due to some wealthy shareholders looking after a nice little earner off Champions League income etc, they've probably still got money left from the last time they got to the last 16. That's hairs on his arse not jets, there's not a chance of him getting to Finch Farm in time. :)

He's on a free so can sign after the window.

You can't rest easy just yet gash ;)

What landmarks? Most crosses fired in to the advertising hoardings in Premier League history?

Campest hand gestures in the Prem 2008-2011. Sterlng's got it sewn up now.

Happy with Lennon.

Would have preferred a link player but if Pienaar and Ossie are on their way back (....?) then he'll help us open up the pitch.

“At 27, Aaron will be a really important asset to our squad and he will represent a real boost in terms of attacking options from now to the end of the season. His pace and trickery will fit in well at Goodison.”

Happy with Lennon myself.....but my money is on "missing most of the remainder of season with a hamstring injury"  :eh:

in fairness to Lennon, a few Spurs fans on 5 live and Jenas have all said he's the best defensive winger in the Prem, in terms of working back and helping his full back out. Not something i've ever noticed but that's encouraging to hear.

Shame about Kennedy so highly thought of when he first came. Good move for McAleny, good luck to both.

We've ridiculed Kenwright in the past for his "watch this space statement"

But for David Gold to quote "don't go to bed yet" and then another reliable West Ham ITK to tweet 10 minutes later that all the deals have collapsed - what a twat!

Still think a move for Cahill is a good one with the view of having him in the backroom staff long term playing out the rest of this season as a sub.

Given he potentially can't play for 3 matches, I can't see why people would be upset at this.
He'd obviously be a good role model for Lukaku and a general good influence in the changing rooms.

I have also seen people say he's off to join Moyes in Spain, but who knows!

Losing Eto'o (with all the issues surrounding him) and getting Lennon, we probably have ended the window a bit stronger than we started it. So he's delivered on his promise again....just.

Probably worth investing in a lighting rig mate. Makes the world of difference, particularly if you don't have a camera that films well at in low light conditions.

I'd also probably look into a separate mic too. If you're not keen on spending much, take a look at cheap stuff from China on ebay or aliexpress.

yeah the lighting is something we'll be having a look at if / when we record another one, the guy who leant us his light tonight at Finch Farm was telling us what to get and how cheap we could get it!

mics are sorted for "indoor" recording, but for this evening we didn't have the laptop to sync up the clip-ons

I am a producer at a Tv-production company. If you need any hints, tips or help I would always help you. My dream would of course be to do some productions for the club itself or a tv-production/documentary connected to the club. I think it is some potential for improving the tv/media segment of the club.

Where are you based?

Can we borrow everything you own, with the probability that we would break it, for free whenever we feel like it?

Heck even the other day Martinez the optimist was doubtful that we would sign anyone.

While it would have been nice to have brought in a defender we have enough cover there while we've looked more toothless in attack recently, a winger was perhaps more of a priority and because we don't have £23m to spend on the likes of Cuadrado, Lennon was probably one of the best options available to us.
