There's mixed emotions leading up to this fixture as my best mate is a mad Villa fan, considering their current predicament if we win comfortably the victory afterglow wont seem quite so bright.

Pffft yeah right.....hope we're 3-0 at half time!

Difficult game . They are playing well and counter attacking with space . Put Stones on Benteke and hope that Barry and McCarthey are as active as they were against Utd and we should shade it   1-0 Lukaku for me .

I still remember the 6-2 hiding we got at Goodison when Tony Daley ran us ragged.

Hope we whip them and destroy their confidence sending them spiralling towards relegation

I cried because we were being embarrassed on the tele in front of the whole country. :(

We all have our favourite Villa stories; Ashley Young and Paul Merson at Goodison were both sickeners.

However, I don't mind Villa. I see them as similar to ourselves. For that reason, I don't wish relegation on them.

Today is going to be just as tough as last week. I hope the players do not go into it complacent.

It's tricky to call but I'll go with 1-1.

Although, I do have a slight fondness of him after his exploits at Wembley

Interesting reading we're -22pts compared to this time last season. For some reason it hadn't occurred to me the massive difference, thought there was only a few really average performances throughout. Were we really a 7+ game better team last season?

I'm less confident this week compared to last. Should have enough about us now to get the job done but I'm sure there'll be some hairy moments.

I think relegation for Villa is the last ‘story’ left this season. If Villa doesn’t go it will probably be QPR, Burnley and Sunderland, which is rather unremarkable.
To keep the season interesting I’d like to see Villa continue to struggle. If they ultimately stay up I don’t mind I just want the season to last a little longer; hopefully to the last day.

We sent them down in 87 I think.

Will never forget that game. My best mate was a Villa fan. They destroyed us that day and made Southall look like Bobby Mimms.

Would be nice to spoil Sherwoods days.

I'm quite liking Sherwood now he's away from Spurs. I think he'll do well for Villa.

Love to help send these down... the most obnoxious away fans I have come across at Goodison, and that's saying something..

Hated them for years and now they have knocked the Shite out of the FA Cup, hope they lose the final and go down.

COYB !

i think it's more to do with setting up to counter someone, and then they score an avoidable early goal and then your tactics are pretty fucked. We're still standing off them and trying to soak up pressure like it's 0-0.

Our organisation from corners is poor.

The man we have at the front of the 6 yard box (usually McCarty) drops back on the line.

That means that flat corners to the near post have no-one to defend them hence for the second Vlaar has a free header almost.

This has happened absolutely loads this year.

If you compare all the ones we have cut out at the front post the difference is stark.

How many league goals has lukaku got from open play?? I dont want to slate him because hes much improved but I just dont see it. Id be delighted to make a profit on him. He now takes penalties purely to pad his poor record and without the Europa League and playing some really shite sides in it his record this season is beyond poor. Certainly not close to the goal record of a 25M player

There should be an almighty row if we do not secure young Garbutt on a new contract. We could alternate him with Baines next season giving both plenty of games according to form. He seems to be the only youngster likely to feature in the first team next season, the others seem to have vanished into the background. I would like to think there some midfielders or forwards who might come into the first team squad. If not what are the coaches doing?

My biggest question is, why change a winning team, no like we have europe slowing us down.

It's coming to the end of season and we don't really have much to play for except for er...finishing one or two places higher and gaining more bonus prize money for that.

Besides, a team with Mirallas, Lennon, Lukaku and Naismith starting should be good enough to get a result against Villa.

In all fairness if you swopped it around and we were in Villa's position and playing them at Goodison the place would be rocking and we would demand an all out effort to win the game. This was always going to be a very hard game from which I was hoping for a good display and a point.

Thankfully, day three starts just after this game finishes and will hopefully, erase the memory of this game quickly. Very pleased to have John Fox, Adam Gase and Fangio as the head coach, Off coach and Def coach. It is now up to Cutler to show his potential. If he can't do well with White, Jeffrey, Royal, Bennett and Forte to throw to, then he never will. Fully expect the Broncos to be in the mix come the play-offs but think that you need to draft a QB to replace the still brililant Peyton Manning as he sadly can't go on forever.

Fox and Gase will stabilize everything nicely.  I'm hoping PeyPey has one more good year.  Fuming we didn't roll the dice on a riskier (but higher immediate upside) RT to keep him upright for one last chance at a Super Bowl.  This draft class of QBs is awful, so I think Denver is looking at a full-scale rebuild after this season.

I agree - although Cutler has not played well for a couple of seasons, I would not have liked the rumoured trade with the Titans to acquire the second pick for Marriotta. Still think there are some gems in the last rounds of the draft and Denver might find a good RT.

Second best today.

Have to question why osman didn't start. Think we needed quality in midfield to control it as they have Delph and Cleverly in there who have been boss lately. Instead we had mirallas and Naismith, one player who is boss (for 2 minutes a game) and another who is great (inside the box) leaving us weak.

Well, whatever. Not arsed. Bring on the transfer window, much more exciting than that dross.

Jags done fine, aside from losing Benteke first half.  Doesn't really detract from the fact he has been a great performer this season.

This is true, however would be more understandable if we had been ok most of the season and this was a one off. I can point to numerous performances where have had the underlying problems that we did today. Slow in possession, open in midfield, shaky at the back, don't have a cutting edge going forward and generally very weak once we let in the first goal.

All combined with bizarre selection by Martinez. We have had a good run recently why not continue with what has worked and finish the season as well as possible.

It is possible that was purely them needing the points and us letting off because we didn't desperately need points, however the signs were similar as at soton, hull, stoke, arsenal, Newcastle etc which for me means we still have plenty of work to do to make sure next season isn't as disastrous as this one has been.

Just watched.... Holy sweet jesus that was a shite first half. Brought back the crappy memories of the first half of the season. I think Delph walked around all 10 players at one point. Just lazy defending, and lazy play in the mid field giving the ball away to easily.

2nd half was a bit better. At least they showed some fight. But Villa's goals were just to easy.

LOL, as ENC knows, very nice country out there.  You want city? Raleigh/Durham.  You want eclectic?  Asheville.  You want mountains or beaches, NC's got it.  The South is best.

Jags done fine, aside from losing Benteke first half.  Doesn't really detract from the fact he has been a great performer this season.

Practicing Dueling Banjos just in case........ ;)

Be interesting to see how our new midfield guy, Cleverly, does.

So, apart from the goal, how did he do? I missed the game.
