Not Ossie and Gibbo together. Against a lower level team who'll run all day in their cup final, they'd get mullered.
It probably will be though.

Actually, scrub the Hibbo hat trick, it'll be a scuffed shot by Ossie in the 81st minute to win 1-0. ;)

Robles for definite . He handled the pressure well last night and doesn't look half as nervous as last season .

Robles
Pennington , Jagielka , Funes Mori , Galloway
Lennon , Deulofeu , Osman , Besic , Mirallas ,
Kone

It would really be sensible to rest Stones , Barkley , Lukaku , Baines and Cleverley .

Hopefully most of our best XI can be given the weekend off with the game changers like Rom and Del on the bench just in case.

                       Joel
Hibbo      Jags        F.M        Galloway

Lennon                                Mirallas

I've got Lennon and Mirallas to start this game seeing as they aren't starting in the league.

Does the FA cup have a policy about fielding a weakened team?
I remeber the premier league did a few years back, although im not sure if they are that strict on it, I remember Ian Holloway was fined a few years ago when he managed Blackpool for putting out what was percieved as a weak side.

It will be easy to justify a weakened team. Injuries, tiredness after playing lots of games the last couple of weeks.

I honestly don't think we have a choice in the matter. The FA can do one with our fixture congestion.

                        besic. Ledson.

        Lennon     McAlany   Cleverly

Pennington looked good when he has played, ledson could do with a game to see how he coupe's, I like Mcalany behind the front man and we haven't seen Rodriguez yet so need to know if he's real. I know this looks weak but we've already got 1 cup in the bag so we can take a risk.

Tough one to call but there are lots of options still. With Tyias out that means we'll have had three or four different right backs through the games this season? Could really do with a back up option there that isn't Elmohamady.

nope you will only hurt yourself if you field a weakened team in the cup unlike the league were other teams get hurt if a team fighting for relegation gets 3 Easy points because of the opponents playing a weakened team

No way we'll see Rom and Cleverley.

I'd be inclined to go Naismith up top with Ossie, Mirallas and maybe Lennon behind. Gibbo and Mo as holding midfielders.

Although if we're looking to ship out Naisy and Gibbo (and McGeady, but he doesn't even really feature in my reckoning for this) teams may not want them to be cup-tied.

Title: Re: Team for the weekend
Post by: GLewis on January 08, 2016, 10:45:27 PM
I'm presuming the starting xi will be mainly senior players in need of minutes.

I wouldn't mind one youngster given a go from the start; suppose it could well be at RB again, like vs Barnsley.

Of course the problem with playing lots of players who need minutes is that many of them will be leggy, not quite sharp etc which can be the bigger issue than the actual number of changes.

Not that we have much choice at this time, given that there are, if we win this, another 5 fixtures in January.

Would have liked to use this to see Galloway in the centre after his competant displays at left back, however, I think it's more important to get Jags and FuMo some gametime together so they can build on their playing relationship for if Stones picks up an injury or needs to be rested.

Also, would like to see Mirallas up top. He's pacey, knows where the net is and could do with more of a run out.

Not sure it's that big a deal really. I'm sure clubs look at the bigger picture of having the player for several years, rather than worrying about the fact they won't be allowed to play in one or two cup games.

Especially these days.

Most teams near the bottom rest their players for the cup ties to save them for the league.

I doubt Norwich would play Naismith in the early cup rounds at least, anyway.

Should be a walk over like but don't count on it, but should be a comfortable win.

Decent strong team this. We should win this at a canter but it is Everton. As for keeping Robles in the team, it means Tim Howard can have a rest from the stick he's been getting from the home crowd. I'm fairly certain he'll be back for the City game though. Fingers crossed for Pienaar coming through unscathed and showing us all, he still has something to offer.

Edit: Oh yeah! Happy birthday Noah :)

I think we have the answer regarding the photographic poses now looking at that lineup.

In that case then, we were expecting Lennon to play through the middle for us.

I have radio contact.

It's a bit like the old days. Only difference is that the coverage is crystal clear. I remember the days listening on medium wave, and every time something exciting would happen, it would turn into white noise, and you'd have to wait a minute to find out what actually happened.

Pennington was a good CB at the League 1 level so we should be fine. Plus, he'll be next to Jags -- can't ask for a better partner in this sort of situation.

Dag & Red with 3 shots, 2 from distance and 1 inside the box, all missed the target.

We've had 12 attempts, forced 3 saves, and have the game's only goal. We'll need to be more clinical to see this out. I don't fancy a return leg trip to Dagenham to play on a lousy pitch in the middle of a congested run of fixtures.

This is all pure speculation but I imagine we're keeping him out of the squad so he stays fit for his transfer to Norwich. I'm assuming we haven't sold him yet in case we pick up a rash of injuries to our forward players during this fixture-congested period.

I have radio contact.

It's a bit like the old days. Only difference is that the coverage is crystal clear. I remember the days listening on medium wave, and every time something exciting would happen, it would turn into white noise, and you'd have to wait a minute to find out what actually happened.

Wanking was like that as well.

Besic was really poor actually yeah. Mis hit almost everything.

Quite a shit game in the sense that we had all the possession of course but like how do you make a chance when they have everyone in their own box? Our tactic just seemed to be to get it down the flanks and maybe overlap before cutting it back but it just wasn't working. Struggled to make shots in central areas too.
