Title: Everton Vs Swansea
Post by: Jimmywhack on November 15, 2016, 03:53:56 PM
All in here

A lesser seen 3pm Saturday kick off to welcome us back to premier league action

These havent won since they replaced some manager Id never heard of with some manager I had barely heard of... Thats worrying cos we all know Everton love giving people a leg up.

Hopefully we will have enough tho to see them off and carry on our decent home form

Few issues, Will he bring back Robles? Barry is suspended, who plays there? Surely to god we wont see 3 at the back again will we? Is Baines back?

Id go with

Steklenburg
Coleman Williams Mori Baines/Ovideo
Gueye Barkley
Lennon Deulefou Bolasie
Lukaku

More likely tho is Cleverly playing deep, Barkley further forward and Mirallas for Lennon~

I'd like to see him spring a surprise although I'm expecting more of the same with the usual suspects slotting in to under deliver and get bailed out by Luakaku as usual.

Only a good win is an acceptable result here. Swansea are a poor side and we need to bounce back in style and start getting some confidence back for the upcoming United, Arsenal, Liverpool games, as well as Koeman's return to Southampton in the next fixture.

The only thing that could be me excited about this is Leighton Baines.

Think his crossing/set pieces will be vital to us under Koeman.

Stekelenburg
Coleman Jagielka Williams Baines
Gana Barkley McCarthy
Bolasie Lukaku Lennon

Doubt it'll be anything like that.

Not getting my hopes up and we'll probably find out that he isn't in Ronald's press conference tomorrow but I think he was set to come back into training during the international break.

Don't want to be a massive jinx but I'm just going to to say it anyway.

At the moment this fixture is about as guaranteed a 3 points as you could hope for.

They are fucking awful.  No excuses at all for us not winning this one easily.

Come out half asleep, concede a load of clear cut chances which they spurn as they're shite, go in at half-time to a smattering of discontent from the crowd then come out the second half and deliver an easy win.

Everton 0-1 Sunderland.
Everton 0-1 Stoke.
Everton 3-4 Stoke.

They have to do it against Swansea this time.

Got no other options have we though really?

I have always said though I'd prefer to see Barkley play a deeper roll, this would be a chance to try that out but he wont put him there.

Cleverley might get a go, but McCarthy is more suited to the DM roll than him, got no other options really with Besic and Gibson still out.
Title: Re: Everton Vs Swansea

If its a choice between McCarthy or Cleverley then McCarthy wins every single time.

I'd give Davies a run as well, with Gana in there, think we can be a little bit braver.  If not now, when?
Title: Re: Everton Vs Swansea
Post by: Ross on November 18, 2016, 07:36:23 PM
Start with McCarthy and make sure we're solid, get the game won and take him off for Cleverley or Davies for the last 20-25 minutes. A wins imperative after the Chelsea game and now our run up to Christmas.

I reckon we could see upto 5 changes from the team that started against Chelsea.

absolutely MUST do this, since Davies didn't make the bench.  I'd go with Deulofeu, double down on speed with him and Lennon.

Southampton played with high energy, chasing you round the pitch. This lot either don't get it or won't get it. I'm inclined to think we need to change them all before we change the manager again.

I stand by what I said earlier -- Mirallas or Deulofeu for McCarthy. McCarthy's not doing much and he doesn't show for the ball enough when Jags/Williams have it.

We need Barkley bullying Swansea's midfield and distributing from deep. We'll miss him up front but he needs the ball more. McCarthy is anonymous in there.

Not looking good up top. We have at least created some chances though which is the only positive.

Really haven't been too impressed by Koeman of late. The comments in the break were a bit unneeded and I don't think it helps the atmosphere which is veering into toxic territory again.

It looks like as was said earlier in the thread are they just a bunch of thick c@@ts that can follow the managers instructions because we look the same as last season, fucking lost!!  The results against Bouremouth, Burnley, Norwich are not just flukes are they. Same old, start slow and might aswell not turn up first half. Second half started with more tempo but we have nothing in the final third. We need a Defoe type striker to go up top with lukaku. Koeman needs to get a grip tho because it's like the team has no identity, I couldn't tell you what r system is. He goes on about pressing but we don't press and the service is shite.

For all the talk he does of pressing (nearly wrote 'preshing' because I'm pissed off, but luckily I'm classier than that and not xenophobic)this team doesn't do much of it.

We also seem as slow and ponderous as we did under Martinez, and as Shogs said the only gameplan seems to be to get the ball to Bolasie so he can sling it over.

I know this is still a mainly Martinez side, but come on, three months into his tenure and we earn a last-minute tepid draw against the worst Swansea team since Sky invented football.

Truly shit stuff since the poor Transfer Deadline Day and lame surrender to Norwich in the League Cup.

I also think the criticism of bolasie is unfair. You had Lennon on the other side who created absolutely nothing.

Bolassie could have easily had two assists today if lukaku was moving forward on the cross or Barkley finished his chance.

It's easy to scapegoat an erratic winger when things go badly. But if the team performs better, the poor side of his game wouldn't be an issue. Because the good side, is very good

Truly shit stuff since the poor Transfer Deadline Day and lame surrender to Norwich in the League Cup.

This is it for me.  There was cautious optimism around over the summer with money to spend, and a new ground coming and goodison getting spruced up.  But its gone.

Deadline day disappointment(irrespective of whether Sissoko is shite or not) followed by no visible real movement on the new ground and the goodison refurb taking longer than Moyes substitution and everyone is flat.

Unless Steve Walsh has got people lined up to sign on Jan 1st then its only going to get worse if we lose Bolasie and Gana who are our only real flickers of promise so far disappear to deepest darkest africa(I don't know where the AFCON) is taking place.

I think Jags just needs to be dropped for a good few games. Remember a couple of seasons he started off the season really crap but then picked up and by the end of season he was voted the Player of the Season - albeit there wasn't really one player that season who could say they had a great campaign.

Still I hope Walsh is busy trying to work on bringing in a really good defender who could replace Jags in the future.

I'm afraid James' McCarthy should be out the door on the second of January. He is completely average and slows us down no end. He's a big problem for the team when he's on the pitch. I haven't criticised Koeman since he's been here, but he's going to need to get someone in to motivate the players. He seems to be having trouble with that side of things. Losing or drawing against dross like that, their only two decent players Sigurdsson and Fabianski and we just about scraped a draw.

Which means that we've got elements of Martinez and elements of Koeman, with probably a bit of Moyes thrown in for the older players still.

How is that an attack on Martinez or blaming Martinez? It's an observation about the confusion in the team, not about an individual manager. It's just as much blaming Koeman as anyone else.

It's not been a bad start from him at all to have us 7th, it's pretty much where we should be based on the quality of our squad vs the other sides in the league

So what's got you out of the players are shite camp. The new ones have mainly been our best performers. I think in the main the squad Martinez left us with is shite and the 1s that aren't are massively overrated

Nothing has changed. I just think it needs revising that it isn't all the players fault. Koeman needs to start taking some flak now.

I don't think we was as bad as everyone's making out. We conceded by an individual error by jagielka again. Nothing the manager can do about that is there, we controlled the game through the match although lacked creativity in the final third. Which in my opinion is player based rather than system based

It's not a case of blaming a particular manager. We do not appear to be playing any differently now than the last 2 seasons. It's the same disjointed shite against teams we should be beating comfortably especially at home. If I was beaten 5-0 the previous game, I'm sure as shit I would be busting a gut to win the next game. But no, not this current crop of players who, for all the words and promises
churn out the same old crap week after week and the same old tired excuses. I don't even listen to Koemans speeches anymore already because they mean nothing.

Koeman is not as good as some people think. Forget what went on before, he should be working towards some sort of style of play. Which he hasn't done whatsoever. I see nothing apart from his bore comments about all our problems being players need to press more.

I'd also say apart from Guaye who is fucking awesome the rest of his signings are bang average!

I will cheer to high heaven when bollassi eventually gets subbed. He does nothing most games yet seems to be exempt from any blame.

Barkley, Lukaku and gana aside, I'd be pretty happy to see the back of all those players in the next two years.

It needs a major overhaul and the first thing is to replace jags and Baines, two players who continue to show signs of decline

Maybe Baines still has another year in him, but jags has to go.

And the likes of McCarthy, cleverley, Mirallas, mori, need to be fucked off asap.

Our league position is not really a reflection of our ability we should be a fair bit lower TBF
Think Koeman might have been thinking of his own situation when he talked about Lakaku needing
to leave to better himself, wouldnt want roberto back under any circumstances but this isnt any better really

What has happened to our crossing a ball and keeping it away from their keeper. At times it looked like a training routine to improve their keepers ability to catch.

I agree.  How can Koeman get out there and stop the shit corners, poor crosses, lack of movement in the final third, etc?

Zero quality on display by Everton today.  Passing and movement completely pedestrian.

But we don't want to believe it's the players.  We want to believe that a certain manager can wave a magic wand of "systems" or "motivation" and we'll be back challenging for top-5.

Fact is these players are crap.

we would have lost that type of game last season, probably 2-1 after equalising, the only consolation is that we are hard to beat (excluding the chelsea game) but still loads of work to do.

Koeman is a massive upgrade on the previous manager , only the guts of 4 months in, keep calm lids

I see we've given Koeman a massive 13 games before the suggestions he's shit are doing the rounds. Classy as always some on here.

I don't think people realise just how much of a clusterfuck we had been left in by Roberto. This is a long term thing. It's going to be ugly at times. January will give us an opportunity to do something. Then we go from there.

As far as I can remember, I've had one whinge about him and that was today. It's only down to the fact they appear to be devoid of any ability for anyone to motivate them. Which is Koemans job, especially after Chelsea. They should have steamrollered a piss weak and very poor Swansea side. Having said that, no Gareth Barry and we're fucked. It's still not a good enough excuse though.

Ignoring whatever the previous game was there is an obvious issue with the tempo at which we start matches.

Koeman is consistently mentioning that we need to start matches quicker yet every week, bar Spurs, we're so slow at the start only to pick up after half time when you assume he's had a go at / reminded them that they're supposed to be playing with speed.

Why that is I don't know.

It is a strange one. Koeman tells us all very publically what he expects so you can only assume he says the same things internally, but yet it doesn't happen.
I get Lukaku coz of his size and Barry coz of his age can't play like those lot across the park, which I presume is what he's asking of them, but the rest bar Gana don't seem willing to put a shift in.
Maybe he should change his publically desired tactics until he gets in players who can do what he wants?

It's not just the closing down though, it's the speed of the passing and movement.

Players have to be brave and try to make difficult passes, either to make the ball or to the player receiving it.

Players have to make runs to support the player receiving that pass etc.

:Horse: I watched the game and was pretty much predicting where our players were going to pass... it's so predictable that any defender can work out where to be when needed. We lack creativity massively, that player who can create that bit of magic no one expected . Before the game their manager told us how to manage lukaku and they did it... that tells you what we need to look at.
In the 80's team of you marked sharp out the game there were four other players at least who'd get you a goal... they came from all over the pitch too. Lukaku's our Achilles heal in a way but also our only hope of a regular goal.

I agree. It's just that Koeman continuously makes reference to the pressing in more or less every press conference but we still don't do it.

What we would give for a Pienaar, Arteta or even an Osman in their pomp, players who created angles and weren't afraid to try difficult balls in the hope of creating something.

Lukaku, Barkley and Deulofeu are problems for Koeman.

None are suited to this fabled "pressing" game but all are young with match winning potential. For me we should be tailoring tactics to get the best of these but my fear is they'll all be either sold or sidelined for lesser talents that better fit Koemans preference.

Which I find very shortsighted especially as the manager has a history of very short stays at clubs.

That's a fair point and definitely an option for him is to sell them. As you say though, Koemans likely short stay is risking us losing some of the best talent around. Barkleys control in tight situations was 8/10 today, but his decision making was no better than 5 or 6/10. He's got to sort it out sooner rather than later.

We may as well accept if we don't get in the champions league this season Lukaku will be gone.

Deulefeu, what do we do with him? He's obviously got it, but is coming on too slowly to hold down a regular starting place in a premier side. They are problematic. Let's hope Koeman gets it right for all concerned.

Just seems like a breakdown service. Like he's towing us to a garage and leaving us there.
