Lukaku deal still very much on the table

NSNO understands that despite apparent comments from Romelu Lukaku that he would not be signing a new deal at Everton this summer, a deal is still in discussions with his representatives.

But if he doesn't want a deal, it doesn't matter what his agent agrees.

Is that 100% certain or only 99.9999% certain?

He's with the wrong agent then if they want different things

Probably. his agent just wants the most money... Nothing to do with whats best for the client.

This is how contract negotiations work, everyone just needs to sit down, have a cuppa, maybe a kit kat, and relax. Rom scoring again on the weekend and Everton picking up 3 more points is more of a priority right now than this anyway.

not read the actual article, who leaked what exactly?   why would Rom or his agent say they have rejected our offer but we (the club) still being negotiated, ok may be to save face etc, but unless neither party can meet / come to an agreement , then why release the story in the first,

Hands up ! Mia culpa ! I was clearly mistaken ! Still not convinced that those are Moshiris words though,
If there were still some hope of keeping Rom making a statement that more or less says  "O.K so Rom says he's off but don't believe it" that would surely piss Rom off !

I don't hold it against him because that's modern football but his agent works for him and he's also been quite vocal from pretty much day 1 about wanting to play elsewhere. If he leaves it's because he wants to. Nothing to do with Everton or his agent

I don't agree with him. I expect us to sign better players then the ones he thinks we may have missed out on. And we're may not have wanted them. Gabbiadini for example is talented but was well known as a bit flaky. I expect him to drop off after a while but we will see. Perez? Hardly set the world alight. But this narrative fits what Koeman was saying at the end of last summer. This could be mutually beneficial arrangement between Rom and Ron if they both knew he was leaving this summer way back in September.

The only thing I disagree with there is the comparison to what happened at City. Those were different times, before the money explosion from TV, before FFP. He's ambitious - good. He actually wants what we crave, signings and the future to be part of winning, legendary teams

Have zero problem with what he said at all. Hopefully it lights a fire under the board's ass to make things happen this summer to keep him around. Need to show ambition. He has no ties to us so why would he stick around for a 10 year project. I'd do the same if I was him.

He's employed to play football, the board is there to make decisions on behalf of the club, it's not Lukaku's job to quiz the board, buy players nor pick the team. He should do his job to the best of his ability which he does and leave the rest to others within the club.

Well I don't imagine he asks for regular updates. But when contract renewal time comes around, he's going to ask about the plans like any top player would who wants to win things. And we should be selling it to him, the way clubs who want to keep their best players do.

100% this. Spurs are the example, how many of their top players have renewed contracts in recent times (some such as Alli and Kane have done it several times).

Maybe it is hard to complare because they are up there already so the project is in full flow and when it did start the likes of Kane were much younger than Lukaku. But still, sell ourselves to him, tell him of the targets, the spending power, who our top targets are

Maybe if he sees a big singing or two in the form of VVD, etc he might see that we can match his ambition

Aye. He's 24 soon and he's been playing top flight football since he was 16 and never touched the Champions League despite gradually becoming one of the top strikers in Europe.

I think it's unfortunate timing that just as we are about to really push on, he's getting to the stage where he's becoming a top player in the league. If our growth had come a year or two earlier, it would've synchronised much better.

For that reason, I'd keep him whatever happens this summer, go big in the transfer window and try to have a big season next year and see if he's more amenable then. If not, fair enough, but he's a tremendous player and if we got some other top quality with him, the team could really soar.

It's nonsense. Just say I want to play for a club at a level we aren't at. Weren't ever going to be realistically at at this stage or the near future or maybe even ever and now I can.
He's making out like we've fallen short of what he believed and was promised. It's nonsense. The truth is no one is to blame. He wants to play for Chelsea and we aren't at that level and maybe he now is. Instead he's implying we've fallen short. We really haven't. We had no chance of meeting his ambition and he knows that. Nowt to do with players we haven't signed

Agreed. If we bumble through the first part of the summer transfer window then every fan would be saying what he's said. Criticising us as we're not in the top 4 when we're not even a year into the turnaround of the club, even though in that time we've; secured a top manager, turned the club around from top to bottom, cleared the debt, more or less secured a new stadium and are still within touching distance of top 4... is a bit low in my opinion. Especially as the season isn't over yet.

Wasn't this season always going to be about finishing in a europa league spot then next season to have a side capable of challenging for the top four. This summer is surely going to be make or break for the manager and for one or two players. Get 4 or 5 top draw players and kick on if not then we end up chasing the top 6 and the manager and players move on.

Because we managed to get an extra year out of him based on selling the project to him. Because he has a right to know (as do all the players) that the club is going in the direction that will match their ambitions. And because of the statement's Moshiri has made in the past about pushing on.
