Title: Arsenal v Everton
Post by: Macca77 on May 16, 2017, 04:05:43 PM
Another season comes to an end, would be nice to finish with a win, only problem is of course is that we never ever win at Arsenal, ever!! Just hope our  lads leave their flip flops at home and have a good go for the fans sake if nothing else

words cannot describe how much I detest that Arsenal squad, probably the greatest bunch of soft self loving cunts I have ever seen, swerving this game as can't be doing with watching us holding these out for 75mins before someone does a fuck up and that prick Giroud puts one away then we concede 2 more late goals after that

Won't mind that at all if Liverpool fuck up against Middlesbrough !

Arsenal are on form at the moment and I think they will beat us unfortunately. I won't mind too much if Liverpool fail to beat Boro, then I will be in queue with everyone else for my BJ off Sarah Jane Mee.

I'll be honest, looking forward to the season being over now as 7th is well and truely ours and it's just kind of petered out since the Burnley game.

I'm also getting fed up with the Lukaku and Barkley saga and looking forward to that getting sorted and seeing what else the summer will bring, before hopefully kicking on next season.

I'm happy it's the final game of the season. Need a break from it all. As @Robioto (http://www.nsno.co.uk/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=292) above pointed out, our season's been done a few games ago once we secured 7th.

The summer transfer window is a lot of fun.

Would like to see us finish with at least a +20 goal difference.

Which means we must at least draw.  That would make for a shocking differential, Top 7 sides all +20 or better, nobody else in positive territory.

It's absolutely fair to say we were closer to the Top 4 (other than Chelsea/Spurs) than the pack below us.

I guess you could say there were two Tiers in the Top 7 - Chelsea/Spurs, then the next 5.  Whereas it was treated more like it was all of the Top 6, then us.'

One could also argue three tiers, with us and United a half-click behind 3-5.

True. When you look at fixtures like Burnley and Watford away, shambolic games where we were still finding our feet and Ron was still making his mark on the squad, you'd like to think that we'd be able to eradicate those type of results next season with better quality both in goal and throughout the team.

My only concern is the potential losses in the squad like Lukaku and Barkley. Add to them and we should be able to kick on. Lose them and have to restructure again and who knows what next season may look like.

While we were finding our feet to a point I think there is more to it than just it was new because there have examples of really poor away games all over the season. Boro in February, West Ham in April, Swansea in May off the top of my head. I dont think we control games away, the tempo is lacking and dont have spells where we pin teams back well enough. Dont think its just one reason but I dont just think it's just down to having better players. We have a better team now than we did 7-10 years ago but back then we would have 15-20 minute spells away at average and poor teams where they couldnt get out.

So not necessarily better players but different types of players. Players like Rom and Ross when they arent in form make it hard to hold the ball, and because we dont have players who find space, receive the ball well, win free kicks, link well together like Pienaar, Osman, Arteta etc then it is hard to find consistent play away from home that can force teams back and struggle to get out. We have players like Davies, Gueye and Schneiderlin who can win it back quickly so that element is ready but it for me it is the players high up we need to add to the team who can help us control and dominate these kind of teams away from home that we have struggled to this season.

True. The next stage in our evolution needs to be players who are comfortable with the ball and not just passing it 5 yards to each other but keeping and using it with intent, all over the pitch.

Problem is that football moves very fast and outside the top six it's likely to be very fluid, and unless we take another step forward we may struggle to stay in the same place.

Especially as city need to lose, arsenal need to win and there be enough goal difference swing for City to not get in. City will definitely get in, Liverpool 95% likely to get in. But surely Arsenal / Liverpool battle for it is the more likely and more interesting one for people to watch rather than the city part of it.

That's why they're only offering a certain amount concerning Barkley's new contract. If he's gone OK. He's going to have to sort it out if he stays. Koeman's had it right all along. It's really insignificant that we get beat 3-1 with 11 v 10.

The end for Ross, a second "last year" in the cards for Big Rom.

Get a real #1 CB and at least 2, preferably 3, creative attacking midfielders in stat.

The real work is to come.

We stabilized and returned Europa League comfort zone, but can we kick on from there? We've not done anything yet.

We are a long, long way from the teams who finished in the top 3 today. You have to expect the likes of Man United will be spending big money again too.

Can we attract and retain (the few we have of that level) players who will allow us to compete for a CL spot?

It's a big ask recruitment wise. Potentially a radically different team awaits us at the start of next season depending on how the Lukaku/Barkley situations resolves themselves.

New Goalkeeper, potentially 2 new CBs, new LB for Coleman's injury, need option for Baines too. That's just the defence.

Schneiderlin, Gueye and Davies in the midfield but beyond that who knows. Bolasie to return at some point. Mirallas has to be replaced, probably our most ineffective area of the pitch attacking wise. We definitely need more goals from midfield, Koeman is not wrong there but we're missing a couple of players if that is what he wants.

Then while I hope Lukaku stays, we either need 1 forward who can contribute meaningfully or two.

I think there is definitely some "chaff" we need to move on from.  For example, the Ashley Williams experiment doesn't really work for me, and I would rather Jags stay on as the #3 CB, and work with Holgate as the pairing for the Cups.

But it would be better if some simply stay on as "squad players" and just play fewer minutes (Mirallas).

Once we got Schneiderlin (and especially before Coleman got hurt), I didn't think anyone was really out of our orbit aside from Chelsea and Spurs.  But like you said, none of our competitors will sit still, either.  And their transfer budgets are larger.

Take nothing whatsoever for granted.  Second season syndrome is a saying for a reason, we have to work hard and work smart to avoid the pitfalls.

Everton in the past have always brought in players with certain characteristics and how they fit into the club, well one characteristic they really do need to be addressing is bringing in players who winners, players who play without fear which ever ground they go to. You want to see players who don't accept losing without a fight.

Well stated.  I share the exact same sentiment.  A major rebuild is needed.  It is also a good time to let Moshiri use this new supposed financial muscle we now possess.  This off season should really show a statement of intent in the rebuilding process.

This summer is probably the most important since the Premier League started.  We have our 2 supposed "best" players looking like they are going, and gaping holes all over the squad where we don't have a player or the existing one is nowhere near the required standard.  We are led to believe there is no shortage of funds.

It's time to put up or shut up.  Hopefully the lessons have been learnt from last summer of Kenwright and Elstone not able to get deals over the line.  I fear a repeat could see Koeman walking.

I am excited, as I believe Koeman and Walsh will have their targets well lined up already, and a clearout of the dross and mentally weak is long overdue

I think this is key. For the past few years we've been weak as piss from top down. Takes a while for this to be eradicated.

It's ironic that term, because to become a professional player, your mentality would likely be higher than the average Joe. It's certainly not an easy path.

But of course it's all in comparison to your peers and is part of what separates a good player from a very good or world class player.

I've said it before, but I think Tom Davies has what Ross is missing.
