Title: Everton V Hajduk Split
Post by: pjk on August 08, 2017, 09:29:46 PM
I've put this game up early, as many will want to get all the info needed, for sorting out their tickets. All in here from the OS. :)

Just out of respect for our Croatian friend who posted, could I ask that we change the team name in this thread to Hajduk Split?

He pointed it out in the Europa League draw thread 👍

I'm in Split just now on holiday exploring the Adriatic coast. Quite a nice city with the city centre a former palace of the Roman emperor Diocletian.

There does seem to be a large Hajduk Split presence with lots of graffiti and sponsorship. I'm kind of glad I didn't have my Everton shirt on walking through the centre.

Just posting this in case anyone else having the same problem.
I'm going to this but my mate isn't . I buy his tickets as ' friends and family ' . So I tried to claim just one seat as an STH but there is no option to remove the other seat from the basket.
Had to make 3 phone calls to EFC ,totalling 80 minutes mostly in a queue. Now have spent more on calls than the 15 ticket I reckon.
Eventually they decided to sell me the one seat over the phone. Apparently this particular glitch will be sorted soon........

Need a nice comfortable 2/3-0 win to take to Croatia, their record is poor in England, lost 6 drawn 1. Stoke knocked them out a few years back I believe. Away tie is bound to be tough though and can see us conceding over there.

Why can you see us conceding over there? We had a great defensive record last season and we've only strengthened at the back this summer. Not conceded in both competitive games we've played up to now either.

He looked Ok against Sevilla. I'm not just saying that like. He was better than at least half the team on that showing. He deserves a chance at least, don't you think?

I was joking slightly, I saw him in the flesh in the Europa game and he was awful, only seen brief highlights of Sevilla so I'll give him a bit of leeway before calling for his head

I agree were more solid now, I can just see us conceding over there be a tough atmosphere probably, and so im saying we need to take a clean sheet and a 2 goal lead over there - I obviously fancy us to get through overall

Yea, lousy 1st half and better 2nd in which we scored. Given the fact that we were missing 5-6 players from the starting line up - getting any kind of win was the goal for this game.
Btw, there was no cheering from ultras as one of Torcida members was killed by knife in a bar fight earlier that day so they didn't want to cheer and stood silent until 23rd min ( he was 23 years old ) when they left the game.

We're going to have to make some changes with the City match in mind for this one.

Stekelenburg
Holgate Keane Williams Baines
Davies Barry Gana
Lookman DCL Mirallas

Unless Garbutt is going to make a surprising return then we're really going to need to sign a left back before the window closes.

True but doing that in the first leg jeopardises the whole tie.

Plus I'm sure he mentioned going out at this stage with Southampton and said that they picked their full team, they were just rubbish...

Think we can worry about rotation if in the groups where it's more predictable so you can be more specific in your changes and also the LC.

Pickford
Besic Keane Jags Martina
Davies Gana Klaassen
Rooney DCL Sandro

For me we need a strong line-up and kill this at Home

Pickford/Kean - 1st Names on the team sheet for me
Jags edges Williams for fitness ATM..
Baines needs protecting, not convinced with Martina but has looked better at LB
Besic - Looked good in preseason and should be given the opportunity to nail down a spot in a problem area
Klaassen/Sandro- Need game time to settle
Rooney - hopefully pulled off at HT after doing the damage
Gana/Davies/DCL - Great Engines & exellent 2nd half displays

I can't see much rotation until after the big games have all gone in another month or so. We want our first choice players up to speed with each other and as fit as possible and they won't get that without playing every game together in quick succession.

One league game so far. Who needs a rest already?

Too many new players need to gel. Doubt we'll see a lot of changes before October.

I don't think all wil get 90 minutes, I just think they might make an appearance.

That said, I do think he's keen to get his preferred 11-16 players as fit as possible, so it also wouldn't surprise me if he stuck it out with similar team to Saturday.

People slag off the Europa league, but I'm not sure that it's such a bad thing for us this year. We need to gel. Get fit and sharp and improve. It might work in our favour this season. Shame we lost Lukaku, he does that today and I'm gutted. Oh well! never mind. :'(

Tickets seem to be going a bit slower for this one than the previous round.

Could be a combination of the early enthusiasm having quickly worn off and the full ground being open so an extra 6,500 to sell I suppose.

Anything other than a comfortable win leaves our season looking pretty precarious this early in so Koeman will want to snuff that out. I expect him to go for it and for us to win under the lights, few bevvies down the hatch to make the place jumping and deliver a win by two goals. I hope.

DCL and Davies have a pretty high likelihood of starting, We also don't have a very good right back, which leaves an opportunity for Kenny to get a game or at least some minutes. It's not really beyond the realms of possibility that Lookman and maybe another youngster was to come on off he bench after we are a few goals up.

Full strength on Thursday.  If the result is such that we need to go close to full strength again on 24 August, then you hold a few key players back (Rooney, Schneiderlin, maybe even Baines) v. City.

We have maybe a 10% shot of getting any result out of the Etihad, and it would torpedo our season to go out in the Europa qualifiers.  We have to be rational about things.

Bit negative that like re city away, got a point there last season, more than capable of taking three with the quality we have, very tough game obviously but I'd be disappointed if we don't take a point

Maybe one or two changes between them but only where tired / not yet at 100% legs need it or tactics dictate.

For example I hope we dominate hajduk with plenty of attackers on the pitch. Davies if we can. Maybe see Lookman late on.

I hope we pack the midfield against city and look to hit them on the break with Sandro up top looking for a Rooney ball in behind.

In the group stage after qualifying for the next round. Why would you play the second string in a knockout round unless you are 10-0 up? It's not the League Cup you know.

Yeah, Sandro could be out. Dominic is the obvious replacement if Sandro doesn't make it. I saw Sandro limping against Stoke before he came off. It looked like he had an ankle problem. I was just watching the press conference, and it doesn't appear to be Koeman's favourite past time. He sit's there squirming waiting for the next question like it's going to kill him answering it. He wasn't too happy waiting for the interpreters either. Despite the fact, he's from Holland. lolol

It's listed on a few channels abroad; there will be less than there were for Stoke but there will be streams. Reddit is generally a good source these days, and as it's on two beIN channels there will be options amongst 24/7 streamed channels, easily found on Kodi. Since it's on 2 and 11 for beIN it's fairly likely there will be English streams about too.

No doubt they will get posted in here, I wouldn't worry. Only time you need to worry about getting some sort of stream is when it's a game not being broadcast anywhere, such as early round cup games, where the coverage is only being taken for highlights shows and often restricted to 2 cameras which isn't much use for live broadcast standards.

I would think so. From the people claiming it worked perfectly, it's reasonable to assume the issue was the server support provided for the video by Facebook being underestimated, since the upload must have worked fine for some to get it fine. Youtube are older hands at live video streaming to millions at once, so I would expect it will be better, and hopefully available in 1080p instead of 720p.

It might also be that EFC are moving around because of the feedback - in house, shit, try FB, still somewhat shit, now try Google. tbh they were the obvious choice in the first place, but hopefully the clubs backwardness over tech has now expired!

Exactly so. Although first time I did it I got some weird mini fullscreen with a border, it was like a video window on a black page. Had to close and reopen to fix it.

Edit: remembered now, there were two fullscreen buttons, the one at the top fucked it up, second time I used the bottom one which worked (next to the settings and volume controls)

Had this lad sit next to me at the game...

Christ!

Nice enough fella and I'd hate for him to read this - but he was just too chatty and about the wrong things.

Trying to talk about the media gantry they commentate from and the work happening on the main stand - I'll chat about that all day with anyone BEFORE the game! More interested in the stadium than what was happening on the pitch.

Like I said - nice enough fella but I was really keen to see the new signings and how they played together.

It'll definitely be 30 plus. There's a lot of fans will find it harder getting tickets for the league games. I should imagine, a fair few will take this opportunity to see a bit of live action, and at 15 quid, if I was in that situation, I think I would take advantage of it. This is quite an important game. All the angst on whether we made Europe or not last year comes home to roost tonight. It's a must win clean sheet scenario. I'm not sure we will score enough goals to make the second leg a procession.

YOU BASTARD!

It was me 😠

I was just l-l-lonely 😞

I guess the non tv thing sort of answers the question re: how important is rooney to media coverage.

Its frustrating for people who cant go I'm sure that it isnt on one of the TV channels given how many there are that could show it. But from a broadcaster perspective is the potential audience big and worth the investment? Especially when it's at home and there will be 30,000-35,000 of our fans at the match itself. If this was West Ham, Southampton, Stoke say in a Europa League qualifier how many outside of those teams fans would go out of their way to want to watch it? I'll watch any football and if something is on I'll generally watch it if im free, but I cant think of a Europa League play off/qualifier tie that I've watched outside of ours.

I take your point Rhys, but when LFC Football Channel (BTSport) says that it will show European games with British interest and it doesn't, you have to feel for those Evertonians et al, who have bought a subscription in order to watch there team on a false premise

i like the attacking out look of the team, looks better balanced, than the opening match and pre season. hopefully Klaassen can get some form, he's the only creative player we have in the middle, if Rooney starts to drop off, we'll have no central striker... hope he stays up top.

Super Kev, almost a "false 9" in this one?  Not really, but I do think he will end up with a "clean up the remnants of the party" goal thanks to all the chaos in the box Lookman and Rooney create today.

He's just taking a bit of time to get up to speed. His game is all about movement and linking up, not individual ability., so he's learning about his new team-mates. He'll get there.

Be amazed if UEFA have a hearing so quickly.

I seem to remember they've already got a suspended sentence, so there may not need to be much deliberation.

That's the thing. I get why some people thought it, because he has been less productive and seemed less willing to get forward. But that was down to two things, not being on pens/free kicks with Lukaku around, and not having anyone he could trust to link with him and not leave him high and dry. Schneiderlin is also a part of it, offering him decent cover tonight. Since Pienaar and Ossie stopped being there, he's been restrained. Now, he is once again Baines Unleashed. Beware defenders everywhere!

Got a nice English spine to this side now.

Three of those will be the spine of the next generation England team. Might actually stand a chance of winning something with Alli and Kane in front of them.

Good performance I thought. 2 goal lead is minimum what we needed I felt. Would have been nice to have got another but I fancy us to get through as we are a superior side

Michael Keane is the man isn't he. Solid as a rock, a proper fighter, yet good on the ball too

Pickford - Love him

Gana Gueye, everywhere tonight as per usual

Really pleased with Lookman, made up to see him start and he looked good going forward. Has lots to learn but he is such an exciting prospect

Most assured performance I've seen From Cuco Martina, a few good crosses in and seemed much happier receiving the ball

Baines was class as ever

Rooney continues to impress

Squad is looking healthy now too and Gylfi Sigurdssons missus is just lovely

Good game, good game. Thought everyone played their part there. Shame Morgan got booked early doors, we'd have gone on to get a hatful if we didn't have to change personnel. That's no slight on Davies, he's just not that deep lying commander of a game, which he isn't going to be at his age. We definitely need a focal point for the attack though I think.

Still waiting for a full 90 minute performance.  Without Schneiderlin we looked massively unbalanced, but i'm not having that Barry woukd have made a difference.  We need someone to come in in that role though.

Thought Lookman showed real quality, and also exactly why he's not getting more minutes with some of his decision making.

Hopefully the first half will stop the Klaassen moaners for a bit.  He'll be great for us.

Really impressed with Martina. Not the calamity some have made him out to be - he's actually quite decent going forward.

Quotes of the night from the commentators:

When Besic came on - "He's been dreadfully unlucky with injuries, and it looks like he's been dreadfully unlucky at the barbers too!"

When camera was on Mr & Mrs Sigurdsson - "I hope he gets two tickets to every match!"

Loving Pickford more and more.

Lots of really good signs. Happy days ahead Blues!

Schneiderlin is a rolls, superb DM but that game showed clearly that we've no clear back up for him and we can't play either system without him.

Dendonker in before the end of the month.

Not having Rooney up front. Want him on the pitch because he's a superb player but you can't have him running the channels all day and trying to ping it off him.

Great night at Goodison, as far as football goes.

Their fans are a bit wild aren't they? I saw a few chairs getting ripped out. Hopefully everyone is safe on the way home.

Pickford's volley was a thing of beauty.

Great first half, average second half. You can see why he likes the axis of Schneiderlin, Gueye and Klaassen, they will only get better together. Klaassen adds the cuteness and maturity that Davies doesn't have yet. I thought tonight was perfect for Gareth Barry when Schneiderlin went off. We weren't under any real pressure there and he would have sat in and directed the tempo allowing Gueye to buzz around. Still think we've been a bit hasty in allowing him his wish to play more games, especially in a 60 game season.

Good result really, could have done with an extra goal though, sat off well too much in the last half hour.
Gueye was brilliant, as was Keane,  Williams and Pickford.

Martina actually had a decent game too.

Just got back to the hotel, don't know how much of their fans  kicking off was seen on t.v but it was absolutely mental, chairs ripped out, plastic bottles thrown at the coppers, got a feeling they did that to get us out of our stride, play with our heads, game was stopped and could easily have lost momentum.
Shit behaviour seemed bizarre that the team went over there at the end Hands raised applauding them ?

Yeah still wish Barry was here, unlikely to start more than 6 games I reckon in the league, but euro/fa/league cup think he would have played, perfect as a sub...

Pickford made more saves than their keeper ?

Hadjuk Split did have 6 shots on target to our 3 according to the BBC stats.

Thought Ash Williams was very good as well. Looked like the beginning of an understanding between him and Keane.

Was a good game to take the grandson and daughter to for a first game and a mate from work who ain't been since he was a kid ....got a bit loud in the Bullens but we gave as good as we got off the Split fans 😅😅...
Great first half ...second was a bit edgy but loads of positives ...Martina was better yet again as was Lookman (although he gave it away a bit) ...great night to be at Goodison.

It's a good omen when Koeman's ripping into them for not putting it to bed 2nd half.....much better from the likes of Martina/Klaassen, Pickford/Kean just immense...... Lookmans gonna be a bit special when his decision making improves.

Was impressed with us getting in a announcer to read out their team.

Normally we go for someone who says their names and translates their numbers in to the appropriate language.

In this case the announcer settled for saying the numbers in English with an Eastern European accent.

Why when reading that did I hear it like Ron Manager off the Fast Show?

Decent first half against an average side but far too many missed placed passes . Dropped off the pace second half and faded near the end to the extent were a better team would have got one back . Pickford was excellent and it looks like he may be over his Sunderland nightmare though .

Great first half however not putting the tie to bed in the second half I feel that we have given them a wee bit of hope going into the return fixture next week. They had a couple of half chances as well as a passing game
Happening in the second half so they will have their tails up in hostile surrounding, we need to score first.

By the way has the Hajduk fan been back on to give an explanation about their fans behaviour or perhaps an apology for getting in wrong

There seems to be a lot of evertonians on my twitter timeline defending Klaassen for all the stick he's getting

...yet no one actually giving him any stick

As a new player to the league I'm quite happy for him to take a little bit of time to settle in and realise that he will gel more with the team as he plays more games

Even then though, he set up DCL's goal against Ruzomberok, made space for Rooney to score against Stoke and had a hand in both goals last night

Well in Davy, regardless of whatever stick you may or may not be getting!

Everton wants to fill the new stadium when it's built. Putting us on facebook and youtube is a very good marketing strategy. It helped out the fans who might not have been able to see it, and it also provided a widespread exposure of the club to uncommitted fans out there. They're definitely improving on the business front. The squad is starting to emerge as a team and it's all looking pretty good. The four Premier games coming up will give us some idea of our progress, but I'm open to a few disappointments. I'm happy with the new look and am confident they're getting it right. Early days yet though.  :)
