Title: Scunthorpe vs Everton
Post by: evertonjoe on January 06, 2011, 08:49:42 AM
Barring floodlight failure and frozen pitches this is a great chance for us to build some momentum after a good result and hopefully start a decent cup run.

We should show Scunny respect but maybe give a game to a few of the fringe players.

Mucha

Neville Heitinga Distin Baines

Pienaar Rodwell Osman Gueye

Saha Beckford

Scunthorpe 0:2 Everton
                           Beckford
                           Pienaar

imo i wouldnt rest anyone, its not like we're playing in europe or even the mickey mouse cup anyway, so lets play our top team and avoid any cock ups.
Agree we shouldnt take it for granted, just hope nobody starts predicting 3 or 4 nil cos we know what follows that normally...........

Wouldn't make any changes just for the sake of it. If anyone is carrying a knock in midfield there are a couple off players who could do with the minutes (rowell, billy, osman, anichebe). But no fringe players (duffy, gueye) in the starting xi.

Wouldnt be surprised to see an Unchanged side. The fa cup is our best chance of silverware/best route into Europe so defo think Moyes will be taking it serious. Would be over the moon with the scrappiest of 1-0 wins just to keep the winning momentum going!

I think Moyes might rest a few.  Howard, Arteta, Coleman, Neville and maybe even Saha might get benched.  Even without them we should be on a high and should put these to bed.

Can't see any changes being made, unless Pienaar is still sore after that knock he picked up last night. We need to keep the momentum going from last night so we can't be chopping and changing the team too much.

As it's been said, a potential banana skin and we'll have to be on top form again to get into the next round.

We need to build an understanding with Cahill missing, so the team should be very similar to the one against Spurs. One or two changes wouldn't be a bad thing, but nothing major.

I'd play the same team from last night, another win thats back to back results - thats apparently when you win one match then win the next one! Sounds boss doesn't it.

Also then the team will be buoyed to go and get an Anfield win - COYB!

I wouldn't make drastic changes, I'd give Pienaar a rest as hes been carrying a knock. Bring in Bilyaletdinov and maybe Hibbert for Neville to give him a breather. It's important to get use to playing this system and that will only come from playing games.

Post by: blueToffee on January 06, 2011, 08:27:20 PM
I'd like to see Gueye featured at some point. We should continue with Saha/Beckford up top though and try and keep that partnership going.
Title: Re: Scunthorpe vs Everton
Post by: blackwatch78efc on January 06, 2011, 08:45:12 PM
pienaar if carrying a knock could be replaced by billy and thinking about it i might actually play duffy. Purely because we're short in defence and with jags out another injury could leave us in real trouble. This way duffy gets some very useful experience which i believe he could handle.

4 Players rested at the max Baines, Coleman, Pienaar and Saha and replace with Hibbert, Bily, Osman and Anichebe,

Every position in the squad bar left back has a replacement that has had a fair few games in the position required next season Baines needs cover, saturday i think we should play Hibbert there i don't rate him at all but it's just a stop gap,

Barring any injuries it at least puts a little bit of  pressure for places for the derby

He might have been worried about the FA getting on his back about resting people rather than being upfront about it like Holloway did. Seems recently you can't pick your own teams. Having said all that it's doubtful considering Holloway is going to be the one taking any criticism if there is any to be dished out.

Beckford has offered so much and for me his misses mean little in comparison to his movement and his goal. I honestly believe he'll score if you give him time on the pitch. He's not the kind of player who will score every chance, but he gets so many through his own industry that he can always score one.

To say we've been dominant would be an understatement. Should be out of sight by now.

That said, an early goal in the second half will see us through as no doubt they'll be given a rollicking at half time by their boss.

Really? I thought he'd been as anonymous as ever.

He hasn't been outstanding or anything but his play has been positive and he has been looking to get involved.   That interception towards the end of the half showed he is up for it.  He needs to be given the ball more but when he has it he is doing well.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been linked again with a 10mil move for Arsenal, makes me think Southampton seem to have quite a decent academy, Gareth Bale and Theo Walcott to name a few from there, i wonder why that is

This would be his fourth card this season. That doesn't mean anything, I think. Reckon he just NEVER expected a card for that, which explains his reaction.

Shithouse refereeing.

Dam i hope your right, i shit them a little there. The form he's in he would be a surprising big miss!

Silly question, but if this is his 5th yellow in all competitions does that mean a 1 match ban? If so, is that the derby?

Regional advantage, I live in Devon and all the talent down hear gets snapped up by Southampton or Bristol City. That includes Devon, Cornwall, Dorset, Wiltshire, Hampshire, Somerset, Avon, etc (maybe even Oxfordshire and Berkshire). Whereas Everton have to compete with the shite, uts, city amongst many other teams. That's what I assume you were getting at?

Do cards from cup competitions factor into league suspensions and card counts? I thought they were separate entities.

All first-team matches (Premier League, Carling Cup, FA Cup, but not European matches) figure into card counts. However, the count resets on 1 January.

From the FA Handbook for 2010-11, Section 8:
8. PUNISHMENTS – Relating to First Team Competitive Matches
(a) CAUTIONS ADMINISTERED ON THE FIELD OF PLAY
(i) If a Player accumulates five cautions in FTCM between the opening day of the
Playing Season and 31 December (including any FTCM played on that day) in the
same Season, he will be suspended automatically for a period covering: -
One First Team Match
(ii) If a Player accumulates five cautions in FTCM between the opening day of the
Playing Season and the last day of the same Season, he will be: -
“Warned as to his Future Conduct”
(iii) A Player who has already been subject to disciplinary action as a result of receiving
five cautions and then proceeds to receive a further five cautions during the same
Season, will be subject to the following punishments: -
(iv) If a Player accumulates ten cautions in FTCM between the opening day of the
Playing Season and the second Sunday of April in the same Season, he will be
suspended automatically for a period covering:-
Two First Team matches

So, if that was indeed Coleman's 5th card (which there seems to be some confusion about), he will only be warned. Upon accumulating 5 after 1 January, he will be suspended for two matches instead of just the one.

Title: Re: Scunthorpe vs Everton

from fa.com
Players from the Premier League through to Step 4 of the National League System, will also benefit from a change to the date that the yellow card amnesty will take effect. From this season onwards, the cut off date for five cautions is now reduced to 31 December.

Previously, players collecting five yellow cards prior to the final day in February were subject to a one-match suspension. This will now only apply if a player reaches five yellow cards before 31 December. Sanctions for players accumulating 10 and 15 cautions remain in place as do their respective amnesty periods.

Furthermore, if a player does accumulate the permitted number of cautions prior to a cut-off date then the suspension will now be automatic as opposed to the current seven day.

A good confidence boosting performance for the team and a few players in particular . Becks , Bily , Magaye all done well , the spectre of missing chances is still there but hopefully the moretime on the pitch that Becks gets , the better he'll get .. Bainsey is looking as good as anyone right now and if he was playing for one of the " Hollywood " teams he'd surely be getting the same attention as Bale or Nasri .. and Seamus must be the find of the season ?

Who is your MOTM ? felliani was so cool and calm on ball besides the one in hit over the bar 1St half but for me beckfords movement and workrate should earn him the plaudits. He creates so much room for others and gets his chances for hard work which he will be putting away more and more i think

Fellaini for me, his composure on the ball and willingness to bring it under control no matter what situation or pressure he's under is brilliant and is fitness levels are immense, he doesn't seem to stop, he gets up and down the pitch all day long.

Beckfords movement was good again and on another day could of had more goals and his link up play was better too, especially 1st half when he was doing the one touch lay offs and things and i thought Bily grew into the game too, he seemed to want to get more involved in the team play and Coleman was good again and popped up with a crucial goal cos moments before Scunny had there tails up after pulling one back so soon after half time.

Very good win, certain players got run outs and mins under there belts and we saved key individuals for next weekend aswell, all round a good day for Everton, roll on next sunday!.

Coleman was superb. His defence splitting pass for beckford, which true to form he spurned, was fantastic

describe it, in sumptuous detail

He miss hit a cross and it dropped into the goal.

Decent performance today from the team. It may be lower league opposition but 5 goals is a decent marker. I just hope we have finally turned the corner. Apart from Stoke, the Man City, Spurs and Scunthorpe games have all been pretty decent performances.

good performance by most today, a few exceptions
fellaini - ran it, superb
beckford - threat, superb goal an assist...i believe he'll be a good player if he keep playing
baines - superb again, as per
bily - pretty poor, our worst player IMO.

Thought Bily did well, linked with Baines ok and had a nice little backheel when he was on the right.

I only saw the second half but the only poor thing he did was have a misplaced pass that against better opposition would have led to a break against us. I'd be happy to see more of him, the couple of minutes he played against Man City brought back some hope in me that he has a chance to make it. Before that I would have been happy to see him go.

According to the link earlier in the thread, the card amnesty came into effect on January 1st. So no, he isn't banned.

So that's why he looked devastated after the card? makes sense..

On a side note, their support was shocking today.

I mean even before the game when the fella on the PA was trying to get them to make some noise, not a peep.

5 goals, 5 different scorers. Positive formation for second game running from Moyes. All the players and fans up for a game in a tournament other clubs seem less bothered by. Confidence boosting performances for the likes of Beckford and no injuries.

Seems like a good day to me.

Wasn't pleased with Beckford today, the amount of chances he fucked up against a team struggling in the championship was pretty worrying.

Beckford is far from a finished article, I'm still on the fence on him until I see him being more clinical. BUT he is adding a lot when he's on the pitch right now.

His off ball movement is superb, showing some decent first touches, seems strong on the ball and has awareness of those around him (obvious by his assists).

If he can add to this, the most important part, clinical finishing, he could turn out to be one hell of a player.

Remember, Arteta, Graveson, Fellaini and Jags (and probably many others I can't recall) took a while to bed in, and became far greater than their initial performances indicated.

Not saying Jermaine will turn out great, just give the young lad room to grow.

He isn't young, he's 27, in his prime for a striker.

Even though he missed a few chances, he's still done well to get into the positions in the first place. Today will have boosted his confidence at least. He'll never be top draw though, he's a freebie from a 3rd division club!

Other than the level of competition, doesn't that pretty much sum up Beckford's efforts at Everton? Most games he gets his chances, and most games he bungles them.

If he could ever become more clinical with his finishes...or even put home one of three...he could be a major contributor.

I think that people have got to accept that Beckford will never be a clinical finisher and never has been. He's quick and gets into good positions and also works hard for us but he's not going to be a 15 goal a season man. The only reason he was so prolific further down the league was the number of chances that Leeds would create in each game.

Anyway great result and some cracking goals, hopefully we'll get a similar draw in Round 4.
