Title: Favourite Performance
Post by: mikey_blue on October 07, 2017, 10:23:17 PM
Just a bit of fun really. Something to take our mind off the international break, and most of all, something positive.

What's your favourite individual performance you've seen from an Everton player.

Mine is Felli Vs Man City. He was everywhere. That pirouette on Bellamy made my day.

The 4-4 at Old Trafford, especially as I was sat with a load of Man Utd fans cursing and swearing as they threw away 2 goal leads twice.

He scored a hatrick in the Europa league the other night I think.

I've always thought that Southall's performance in the cup final was busy rather than spectacular. He won us the game no doubt, but Dave Watson was Man of the Match!

Always have a soft spot for Naismith's substitute hat-trick against Chelsea. :)

In terms of being at a game, the 3-3 v Man Utd in 10/11. First being the Upper Gwladys right behind the goal, Tim Howard's brilliant save then Cahill and Arteta's two stoppage time goals to get the draw, with Moyes even shouting at Atkinson as we broke away looking for a winner only for him to blow the whistle for full time, absolute scenes.

Someone mentioned Naismith against Chelsea, I came away from that game thinking about what a player we had in Galloway.

I think itís difficult this because sometimes poor or unspectacular performances are masked by a magical moment. Other times marvellous performances are missed because they either didnít have a magic moment or were overshadowed by one.

Arteta vs fiorentina stands out but I genuinely canít remember if it was a great Alround performance or it was just that goal. (Which got me on the big screen)

Andy Johnson against the shite (3-0)  and on his debut against Watford stand out for me too.

Loved Saha when he was on his game, I don't think even he knows whether he's left or right footed, he was brilliant with both. That goal in the FA Cup final. If ever a game was set up for Moyes defensive nature, "just hang on for the next 89 and 35 secs minutes plus stoppage".  :snigger:

probably the first Live Everton game i recall watching...

The Stuart McCall cup final of 1989. i know we lost, but that match stuck in my head.

Liverpool V Everton at Anfield, 1995 Kancheslskiss' double.

kinda related,. Southall sitting down by the posts V leeds, not sure what year, i just recall Ferguson calling him after the match then Southall shouting at him.. fucked up his chance of going there, then they bough Schmeichel instead lol
which meant we still had Southall for the 95 cup final :D i think we won that with out conceding a goal in the fa cup and made
Southall the most decorated Everton player of all time.

The Saha v Chelsea one was a masterclass, John Terry on toast.

Manny vs United was something else although I wonder if gets better in a hazy nostalgic way looking back.

As someone said countless Arteta performances that were fantastic to watch.

Fella v City was fantastic, he absolutely bossed them.

Fellaini against Man Utd, first game of the 12/13 season on MNF when he scored the only goal of the game was a great performance by him. I'm sure they had Carrick in central defence and Felli absolutely ruined him.

My lads first game that, we recorded it on Sky as well in the hope heíd see hinself on tele. There he was, 19th minute, stuffing his face! Probably the best Iíve seen Fellaini play.

Spurs in December the same season, 1-0 down to a flukey Dempsey goal, up pops Pienaar on 90 and Jelavic on 93. Bedlam.

95 semi and final.

Seen a couple of mentions of Arteta v Fiorentina, you could easily put a mention in for anyone from the team that night. Mine would be for Jags, him and Lescott defended like lions that night, never felt a ground full of people's collective hearts break so much when his pen was saved, genuinely believed that we would have won the Uefa that year had we won that tie

Two things about that game. I remember thinking that McFadden was going to be world fucking class. Sat by the Leeds fans with my mate giving them so much shit because he was just toying with them.

Secondly, I'm now concern I have early onset memory loss as I could've sworn it was Radzinski who scored the third and not Duncan

one of my faves was against Birmingham, i recall watching it on skys saturday night extended match highlights proggie, i used to go out on saturdays on purpose so i wouldnt know the score and be excited when i watched the highlights.. anyway

i recall watching it.. we played them off the park, 1-0 with ten mins to go., then bham score.. 2 goals in injury time, Carsely and Vaughan i think.

but that was the thing back then. Moyes' teams never gave up, we used to score so many goals late late on in injury time, miss that never say die attitude.

Felling against City and Felli against United already mentioned.

There was also a John Stones performance at Wembley. I think it was against  United where he really drove us forward in the second half. Played like Beckenbauer.

Amazing how fluid we were able to play on such a disaster of a pitch. Today's players can't even string a few passes together on perfect turf and would still complain that the weather affected their play.

Bob Latchford v Chelsea,getting his 30th goal,absolute bedlam,
Duncan McKenzie v Cardiff,FAcup 1/4 final,absolute magic,
Andy King, you know who against who, absolutely manic,
As you can see,i absolutely loved the 70s,passionate crowds & teams that showed how to lose a game with dignity.

Second half v Fortuna Sittard 1985

3-0 - Andy Gray hat-trick (Terry Curran played alongside him)

About 30,000 at that game - when those goals went in, felt like 60,000 in Gwladys St, alone!

Enthusiasm, bravery, never say die - didn't have to kiss the badge, that blue shirt gave him (and us) the kiss of life

Picked up a lot of injuries, no surprise - just look at how he played

A match made in heaven - he peaked, we peaked

Yeah one of the maddest things about the last 15 year or whatever of Everton is how obviously we fanny out of derbys, despite the dross that have managed to beat them at anfield over the years.

I honestly don't think we'll win another ever again. This year I worry it's going to be another mauling.

@Toddacelli (http://www.nsno.co.uk/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=2432) is going to love this one...

Dennis Straqulursi's performance at Goodison a few years back against City. We all knew what a limited footballer he was, but the sheer effort that he put in during that game and the panic that he caused in City's back line was worth the admission fee on It's own.

Another one from the not too distant past was Duncan Ferguson against Utd at Goodison. It was under the lights and from the second the game kicked off you could just sense that he was going to bag the winner. He was absolutely unplayable that night and it was probably the last time that we got to see the big man right up for it and doing what he did best, terrorising centre halves.

Spurs FC cup 1995 4-1 and it could have been more big Joe got a team that was near bottom to win the cup and top half of the table

Koeman would to well to watch that game over and over again if he is going to play 3 at the back or 5 what ever way you want to look at it

no number fucking 10,s just a winger playing inside and a 2nd forward playing the other inside spot
