What a moment.

Remember that game so well. Beckham was inspired.

I think I stopped caring about the same time that the players stopped caring.

And look at the England midfield now.

Ever since I started watching England, no matter how poor they were, at least one thing was certain: there would always be someone you could trust to score with a free kick. Not any more.

I remember it well.

I was seeing a right looker at the time.

She was a blonde, 19 year-old first year student at Sussex Uni, a posh Brummie from a wealthy nouveau riche family, with a killer smile and a spoilt attitude!

Anyway, yeah, Beckham carried us that game, no question.

But I'd stopped really caring after the traumatic pen defeat v Germany in Euro 96.

It was just too intense, and by Euro 2004 when the media and Team England cynically conspired to sell Rooney to United, I was beyond done with that shower of shite.

Back in Italia 90 you could imagine bumping into an England player on a night out and have a drink and a laugh with him.

Nowadays they are more likely to look down on you from VIP, and try and pull your bird if they're half decent looking.

Best game I saw Beckham play

That was when the World Cup the following year was at stupid o’clock.

I had a house full for the Argentina game at 7am. Everyone was mullered by 8:30. Got knocked out by that freak Ronaldinho goal.

Probably Euro 96

Probably Euro 96

Our biggest chance since 66, never come that close again.

Gazza was so close to winning it against Germany in the semi

Painfully close.

Probably same for me too.

But Euro 96 for me was just a sensational moment and tournament, along with three lions being released and the tournament itself being in England.

I still stretch and stick my foot out even now when I see gazzas miss.

I remember the “superstars” of the ‘82 World Cup going over there with so much promise, only to be placed in the group of death in the second stage against Spain and France. There was some players in that squad.

I stopped caring when they always picked a midfielder from the Shite in the team, no matter how bad they were.
Remember Jimmy Case.....wtf

Deffo euro 96 for me ....great team great manager ...if only Gaza was an inch or two taller. 😢

Although the Beckham years have us a little hope .

Never really been that arsed about international football, so never really cared enough about England to stop.
I will admit though that I did quite enjoy watching Everton's young guns in the last u20's World cup.

Euro 2004.

I was 12 and Wayne Rooney, still of Everton,  looked like he was going to single handedly win it for England.

Been utter dross at every tournament since.

Went to a few tournaments...

Euro 2004
World Cup 2006
World cup 2010

Plus a couple of euro 96 games but as they were here that doesn't really count.

Couple of decent moments - sitting behind the goal where Karel Poborsky scored the chip for Czech Republic at Euro 96.

Being hit in the face by Rui Costa's missed penalty at Euro 2004.

Beckham was really inspired in that Greece game

Even before that amazing free kick he was having a stormer and he was playing in a way that I hadn't really seen before, where he just seemed to be everywhere, and everything he was doing was something positive.

It was like he'd taken the responsibility of the team (and country!) on his shoulders and decided that he was getting us to the World Cup even if he had to do it on his own

You don't see that type of passion for the national team nowadays

England look so disjointed and the only bright light really is Harry Kane

Southgate has come out and said that England will play 3 at the back at the World Cup. Classic us!going into the World Cup with a new formation that we haven't tried before with this current group of players and with loads of questions about the personnel

I wonder whether it's because we've got so many bad midfielders that playing 3 centre backs and 2 wing backs means at least we don't have to pick as many of these bad midfielders

                    Hart

        Stones Cahill Jones

Walker.                             Rose

            Lallana Dier Alli

               Kane Rashford

Is the plan something like this maybe?or do we need to shoehorn Jordan Henderson and Alex Oxlaide-Chamberlain into the side to make it even worse

So this summer England will be full of cars with those stupid flags on their windows again, idiots will decorate their houses in England flags, some reality tv star will release an official shitty England world cup song

I've never cared for the England team, I only usually watch England games if more 2 or more Everton players play.

I care more for the under 21 and youth teams, as they have a lot more Everton players in the team..
Got Andorra at 5,. dont think its being shown anywhere ;/

I watched highlights of the England u17 team beating Chile 4-0 in the world cup the other day and they were everything the men's team isn't.

Fast, moved the ball with pace, enthusiasm, great skill, great finishing, cool names like Jadon Sancho and Angel Gomes rather than Jordan Henderson and Eric Dier.

thats why i prefer the England youth/under 21 games, the players play with out fear,  they look like they're having fun, rather than being scared shitless of fucking up.

one of my fave England matches i went to was England under 18s i think V spain under 18s. it was at Walsall's Bescot stadium, Fowler scored 4 i think lol

edit fowler scored 3.

https://www.11v11.com/matches/england-v-spain-22-july-1993-262830/

even found the highlights! happy days, first match i ever went to :D
I recall the atmosphere being fucking amazing, also stealing the spanish subs balls at half time while they was warming up.. lol, 2 spanish players got sent off i think, mainly due to the crowd!

And then there will be a national depression when you go out in the quarters. Rinse, cycle, repeat in four years time

No depression here far to long in the tooth to expect anything but dros from England in a tournament. 😅😅.
But the I always prefered rugby shouts can already be heard across Wales 😛

You'd be surprised. Only going by my English friends, which are surprisingly many, and family members. I think though it's more your casual footy fans who care about the national team.

Me too but then again I want all countries that have Everton players in them to do well. Wanted the Dutch to win the World Cup in 2010, because of Johnny Heitinga.

I left England 2 years later and nationality began ebbing away from me.

I'm old enough to remember having a ticket for the '66 WC semi at Goodison.  England v Portugal(?) . They switched it to Wembley so we never got to see it. Total insult and I thought  fuck them. Had a ticket for the final, didn't go and never bothered about them since.
My only interest is our players not getting injured.

Spare a thought for Scottish Evertonians - we might be getting David Moyes as Scotland manager.

Still, a marked improvement on the last 20 years worth of Scotland managers

1986 World Cup.  Bracewell should have gone instead of the over-rated, injury-prone Bryan Robson, but I still believed.  Never again.  1990 I was too pre-occupied with recreational substances and a brunette who eventually broke my heart.  Fuck Gazza and his tears.

I’d rather watch a bunch of semi pros from the likes of Africa have the time of their lives than watch any of our home nations stink the place out whilst acting like a bunch of entitled tossers.
