Title: your favourite season.
Post by: SANA_DR0 on October 19, 2017, 06:43:31 PM
Ill have go with this, so many outstanding performances by our players Barkley, Mirallas, Deulofeu, Barry, Coleman and Lukaku...

t

What season has been the best you have seen us play? or your favourite and why?

I went with the above season, as we where solid defensively, could pass the ball, players could run with the ball an we where pretty lethal infront of goal..

The Arsenal game at Goodison that season was the complete performance, bullied and outclassed them from the first minute.

Have to say 04/05 was an amazing season, tactically we where spot on + our never say die attitude.. but out football was atrocious at times lol if it wasnt for out shit football, that would be my favourite season.

Roberto's first, as I was fully engaged, we had two legitimate young stars in Rom and Ross, and I believed we were on the cusp of doing something legitimately great.

1995/96 was a great season.

Kanchelskis had a stormer that campaign.

04/05 finishing 4th after finishing 17th previous season and selling Rooney and replacing him with Marcus Bent. Fergusons goal against the Mancs.

07/08 - The Fiorentina game. Had we won the shootout I am convinced we would have gone on to win the tournament. The final that year was Rangers v Zenit. Rangers were shite and we had already beat Zenit in the groups.

08/09 - The peak of the Moyes era. Team had perfect balance, goals, solid and fight. If the spine of Jagielka, Arteta and Yakubu had not got injured that year we would have atleast put up a better fight in the cup final. What a moment it was when Jags slotted the pen.

13/14 - goes down as our best season since we won the league in 87. Real shame it turned sour after as I genuinely believed at the time with Marrinez we had found a good blend in terms of keeping Moyes solid defensive qualities mixed with Martinez flair, it did work which is why we did so well that year, just a shame he went full blown bobby the following two seasons.

The ones that come to mind first are:

95/96 - fnished 6th I tnink, Kanchelskis was awesome
04/05 - Finished fourth with a cheap but hardworking and organised squad
07/08 - That UEFA Cup run was great
13/14 - I hated Martinez come the end of his reign, but this season IMO is the best football we've played since I've been following/supporting the club

1984-85: when else?

And the 1985 bit, all those games unbeaten in league and cups, right up 'til May, never lost a European leg, won every game at Goodison bar a 2-2 draw with Ipswich in the FA Cup

Did the treble over Liverpool as well, @ Wembley, Anfield & Goodison!

Sensational!

Nothing can top a season when you win a trophey at the end of it, 84-85 ( being 17 was great time to be a Blue )so many games you just knew we would win -  even when we went behind...

Marinez's 1st season still wrangles me, so much power and pace , with Moye's defence- how it all came to an end so soon,  quite a few of them games we had a lot of luck , everything we hit seemed to go in----

Gotta be 84/85

Plenty of half seasons I've enjoyed but that's the only full season.

There was so much going on in the Northwest music-wise in the early-mid 80s, too.  Wish I could teleport myself back there and experience it with you lads, FFS.

84-85 Dreamland for any blue. Truly a beautiful time. Untouchable. Rotterdam was the cherry with 25k + blues bouncing

"Get out the bread and jam, we're going to Rotterdam!" Ronald must have heard us!

And talking about the music scene, Everton made the pop charts - number 14! Not quite number 10, Ron!

"Here we go, here we go, here we go!"

Unbeatable!

As has been said 84/85 for me so many great memories.

Sharp's goal at Anfield.

The Cup Winners cup semi-final and final.

And the league game against Utd.

2nd place to Liverpool in two competitions?

I preferred the season before, myself

going to school being the only one who supported Everton, who were champions of England, was awesome.  Even better that I used to travel up to the game every week whereas the rest of my class couldn't point out Anfield on a map.

Thanks for that, I have been down the rabbit hole of 1980s Everton videos and probably will remain there until kickoff.

Also, based on video viewing, I think I would have loved Trevor Steven even more than Lukaku.

I tried to recreate that goal at break time and during games at school for weeks after that and always fell on my backside but the feeling of joy that goal gave me always dulled any pain.

Being there and seeing the Kopites faces must have been priceless. Hopefully, we will get those days again soon, been too long.

nothing before, nothing after has matched that for me, the cup and league wins were amazing, but that moment is etched in me for eternity

I wish I could say 84/85 season - unfortunately I wasn't even born and I didn't really start following Everton religiously until around about Moyes' first full season in charge of Everton (2002/3 if I remember correctly?)

Best season I can remember was 2013/4 during Martinez's first full season. He had tactics pretty much spot on, we were defensively pretty solid but attacking wise we were really good and it was just a joy to watch us: Doing the double against Man Utd, destroying Arsenal, good hard fought 1-0 win against Chelsea with a great debut from Gareth Barry, the emergence of Ross Barkley, John Stones and Romelu Lukaku, 7 game winning run. It's a pity that despite finishing with 72pts, there were 4 teams who had done better than us, if it had been any other season, that would have been enough for a top 4 finish, in fact 2 seasons ago that tally was enough for a 2nd place finish.

1066 was deadly. 1970 for me. 1966 was alright as well. 1977 was very entertaining. 84/85 was gangbusters. Glad to have witnessed it all as the future looks flipping....insert word here like  :police:

That 07/08 uefa cup run - tuning in on thursday nights for Colin Murray's shitty presenting, Kevin Ratcliffe's pronunciation of Ja Jelka, and Anichebe's Ronaldo-like transformation. Haven't had that level of excitement about the team since sadly. 13/14 was good result wise but didn't have anything special.

1984-85 and 1986-87 best seasons in my life time. Even 85-86 was better than any other season apart from the end losing out on both trophies to you know who. I doubt we'll see anything as good as that in the near future.

I was lucky enough to be there for 84/85. Superb year.

1970 Championship win was a great memory as well. Alan Whittle popping up at the end of the season to score every time he touched the ball. That's what it seemed like.
My Mum let me go to the match on 1st April on a school night...only because I'd studied hard all weekend before for my "o" Levels

the 69/70 season was my first full season of watching Everton, and I never thought that midfield could be bettered, then 84/85 , my last going home and away regular, what can you say, I have been lucky to see some truly great teams, and some absolute dross.

I feel we have some very talented players, we need someone who can make a team from them. could it be unsworth? who knows. but I hope so.
would love to see something special again.
