Title: Best players to win nothing
Post by: irishtoffee on November 08, 2017, 04:11:03 AM
Who are the best players that have played for us since 1995? Any formation you like assuming they're in their peak.
                   Martyn
Coleman lescott jags  baines
Kanchelskis Arteta Fellaini Pienaar
                       Cahill
                       Lukaku

Still not sure if they'd win anything

One hell of a team that. Arteta playing Rom in. If only.

Wins the lot in its prime that team.

Although I'm always having Joey Yobo over Lescott.

A prime Saha

Yeah that is a shout too. Sadly we never really got any of the three truly in their prime

Still time for a couple of them.

Pienaars just got a new club and you’d imagine Lukaku will get his hands on a winners medal at Utd.

Yeah but not for us which is the crux of this thread

What about Rooney ?

A prime Rooney beats the lot there.

               Howard
 Coleman Lescott Stones Baines
Kanchelskis Arteta Fellaini Pienaar
               Rooney
               Lukaku

Can't improve much on that team - Controversial call, but I would add Stones at the back instead of Jags. I think he has already surpassed Jags at his peak, and you could see his ability as soon as he came in the team. Although Stones was young and played no where near as much as Jags, I think he is the better player.

Very similar situation with Rooney - Cahill played more for us and did a fantastic job, but a prime Rooney beats him.

I think Martyn would beat Howard.

Absolutely. That's not even debatable.

Although I'm always having Joey Yobo over Lescott.

I remember yobos first 10 or so games. He genuinely looked like he might be the best defender in the world. Got sent off against Newcastle and came back from the suspension half the player

Had southall in 95. Might be through blue tinted specs but think he is the best I have ever seen when he was in his prime.

Of course, but it's only players who won nothing with us. I actually meant the peak of their Everton careers which is why I didn't include Rooney. I didn't make that clear at the start though. I think I'd take lescott or distin over yobo. I never really took to him.

No love for Richard Gough here?  I'd have him alongside Lescott.

Valente?  Naaahhhh  ;D

Drenthe and Ferrari on the bench?

Anyway, here's my madness:

Martyn
Coleman Gough Lescott Baines
Carsley
Kanchelskis Arteta Pienaar
      Rooney
    Lukaku

Bench from:
Howard
Barkley
Jagielka
Yak
Campbell
Stones
Yobo

...
Struggling now, especially for left back cover
...
tempted to throw a few more number tens in
...
I reckon Fernandes could have done a job at left back.  ;D
...
I quit.
