Title: Everton vs West Ham
Post by: GrantyBoy78 on November 27, 2017, 04:34:52 PM
Not quite "the biggest game in Everton's history” as Martin Keown put it, but it's certainly a massive game.

Extra needle because of Moyes.

Niasse, Baines and Keane out for this one.

                    Pickford

   Kenny Holgate Jags Martina

       Beni  Sigurdsson Gana

      Lennon   Rooney  Sandro

Honestly, it's such a shit fucking squad! Don't want half them players in there but what options are there?!

              Pickford
    Holgate Jags Williams
Davies                       Lennon
              Beni Gueye
                  Siggy
            Rooney Sandro

No idea who is actually injured/available/suspended

The only thing I’m sure of is that Schneiderlein, DCL and Williams shouldn’t even be in the conversation.

It’s going to be a full aerial bombardment.

Lanzini > Carroll all game. PING!

Wonder what the crowd will be like? I don’t think many of our fans, let alone the players, have the stomach for a relegation scrap. It’s not what people signed up for this season.

Which is why we should have been playing for clean sheets from the start.

Instead we’ve humbled along with a misplaced idea of just being bolder with selections and approach and that will right all the previous wrongs.

We’ve had 7 games with no cohesion from the previous match.

Admittedly there’s not as much training time, but then use that matches for that instead (as much as possible, at least).

We should be aiming for a clean sheet against these and against Huddersfield.

If we sneak a win (or two...) then fantastic. But if not we at least show that we want to and can defend.

But based on what we’ve seen so far, and that they’re one of the few teams below us, I doubt we’ll get anything other than “going for it”.

Yes.

Part of the problem is that we’ve got attacking line ups but either through tactics, or the fact that our confidence is shot, or most likely both we can’t keep the ball.

We’re doing nothing which is why we’re so easy to play against.

Need a coach in as soon as possible to start playing with some cohesion. You did a really good job of allaying some of my fears yesterday when you said that basically we should worry when we’ve seen them with a coach in place who is trying to keep clean sheets.

Imo we were miles better under Koeman than we are right now, and it was still right to bring his reign to a close. Won’t take much to get some positivity back, but we need to start immediately.

Saw a worrying rumour that we have been unable to agree a fee with erwin for letting him go, and so have been unable to replace the manager. Sounds a bit fishy but I don’t like the sound of it.

Even if we couldnt agree terms with him I fail to see why that would have any impact on getting a new manager, unless he had a clause in his contract that said 'you cant appoint another manager while im still here, even though Im not the manager'? Which would be a little strange to say the least!

Stuff like the rugby formation with the defenders is down to a lack of rigorous and repeated work on structure and positioning.

You only do that when the coach has a clear idea of what needs doing.

I don't think the problem is that Unsworth has been particularly brave or set attacking line ups. We played with Gylfi as a lonely striker against Lyon and still got battered.
It was very defensive and deep sitting 4-5-1 with Niasse isolated up front against Palace. Here is position map from the first half:

(https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/6TXDRKNy3iiirp_xKFAd8RtpeKQ=/400x0/filters:no_upscale()/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/9712415/first_half_positions.PNG)

Gylfi played as a DM almost! And we were a defensive shambles again.

The problem is he is just clueless. His tactics, line ups, substitutions and formation changing every 10 minutes suggest he doesn't know what he is doing.
I mean he's not an idiot and understands we should sort out the defense first, he just doesn't have a clue how to do that.

Fuck it lets go all out attacking ...can't be any fucking worse than what's happening at the min ....play a 433 attack one dm and Sig in behind two forwards ...fuck even throw Rooney in and tell him not to come in our half all game or else ...then stick to it not change every ten minutes ...trying to defend is getting us sweet Fanny Adams .

We were good defensively vs Lyon for the first hour until the subs started to really open the game up. Then it followed the now standard pattern.

Vs Palace the wide men were so deep as we couldn’t a) keep the ball as we had 3 runners up front and b) they were finding space behind the midfielders.

The fact that we were dosing at the start didn’t suggest that they’d been really drilled into not conceding goals first and foremost.

We then went 4-4-2 in the second half etc.

Chelsea and Lyon for the first 60 mins should have been the template for all the games.

Can anyone see us winning this game, I mean seriously?

I've tried so hard to remain positive over the last few weeks in the hope that something would change and we would come good, buy yesterday;s performance was the final straw for me, the way we just rolled over with no fight whatsoever is scary

Now set for a titantic face off on Weds.

I miss having the high ground.

Behind West Ham and Newcastle...that really is depressing. Surprised we've not interviewed Pardew.

Slightly troubled by the fact that Allardyce only got CP out of trouble by some flukey results against the big clubs too. I don't remember the position CP were in though when he came in, maybe they were more adrift in fairness.

Doesn't matter how many times I see it.

Wouldn't Luke Garbutt be a better option ?

Still don't understand how you can have Sig and Rooney on the same pitch. At least one of them has to be out of position??? Sig isn't great out wide, or Rooney isn't great as a number 9 or out wide.

Actually I've no idea how that lot will line up?

                  Robles
Martina  Williams  Jagielka  Kenny
             Gana   Davies
Vlasic    Sigurdsson        Sandro
               Rooney

                  Robles
Martina  Williams  Jagielka  Kenny
             Gana   Davies
Vlasic    Sigurdsson      Rooney
              Sandro

?????

Also not sure which way round Kenny and Martina are?

Back to the dogs of war midfield in a flat four something like Banigme, Besic, Gueye and Davies, not arsed about width just hard workers who will put a tackle in. Do not go near Mirrallas or Scneiderlin

The hopeless Gana picked again. I suppose there is no one left to choose from? Maybe it is not true and he won't say until near kick off. 0-4 might be a good bet with that team. Mind you Robles is OK.

Can’t even imagine how easy it would be to play against us without Gana’s tackles and pressing.

Ok we might actually have someone in the middle of the pitch but I think I’d rather Gana and another pair of legs playing as 8’s with Beni or (if he was still good) Schneiderlin in between.

Robles - shit
Kenny - not ready
Martina - shit
Jagielka - way past his best
Williams - way past his best
Gana - awful this season
Davies - awful this season
Sigurdsson - see above but shoots of recovery
Vlasic - not ready
Rooney - way past his best
Sandro - awful this season

3 categories...3-0 toffees!

Hopefully we do the business tonight but there is worries in each sector of the pitch for us. Defence looks horrendous and it seems highly unlikely that we will keep a clean sheet

Positionally central midfield worries me. Gana just hasn’t been himself this season and Davies has had a bit of a nightmare too. He seems to constantly be fouling players now and getting pissed off

Further forward you just worry that they don’t know what shape they are playing, that Sigurdsson and Rooney will occupy the same space with a wide right player but no one wide left

Expecting a defeat to be honest. Lanzini and Arnautovic are the worries from the opposition

On the bright side allardyce will be pleasantly surprised tomorrow when he turns up for training after our pummelling to find we've got a host of more competent players unsworth has excluded

Be nice to have someone (anyone) willing to give sandro, klassen and vlasic a 10th of the chances others have had

What the fuck do people expect? Moaning about a defence when we don't have anything else to pick from. We should be directing our frustration at the guy in charge of recruitment not anyone whose job it is to pick the shite out of it.

This. We have Kenny (who has potential but defensively miles off atm) and Martinez playing full back positions. There is literally no other option

He's definitely going too deep at times but I just think he's trying to lead by example. Some things are coming off, some aren't but he's running everything for us at the moment.

The issue is when he comes deep Davies and Sig need to rotate and give us options but Sig in particular is still facing play up too much. No issue with Rooney playmaking as long as others are switched on too.

Johnjoe Kenny has played brilliantly, Sigurdsson looks like a player, Holgate has stiffened us up, looked more like the Davies of old and the speed and determination of DCL has give us a viable target to aim for.

I really rate Lennon one of our players with a bit of pace. It's his last touch / final decision making that let's him down. 9 times out of 10 he makes the wrong pass

Never lets the side down though. His lack of quality is evident, but he'll never leave the pitch without giving it everything.

One of the best things Martinez did.

Got to take the positives, hopefully this emphatic result instills some much needed confidence for everyone and Allardyce uses this as a platform to build on. Forget the manager, lets just get behind the team now, its about them. Similar to what Chelsea did with Benitez, never wanted him and binned of a year later but its about the players.

Got to take another 3 points on sat which possible moves us into the top half and Niasse back, lets see where we go from there.

Superb result and just what we needed.

Rooney, as always worked his socks off.  Was all over the pitch.  Have to say that sometimes he has little effect on the game, but no-one can deny his efforts tonight.  Amazing third goal.

WH bossed possession for a long time in the second half, but heads didn't drop.  JJK and Pickford were excellent.  Williams continues to frustrate in defence, but what a fine goal.  Most centre forwards would be proud of that.  Stick the lad up front and see what happens!

Besides their possession, thought WH were shit so I'm gonna keep this in perspective.  Great win and hopefully something to build on, but we will face much better teams soon.

Much better performance. Controlled the first half very comfortably and finished the 2nd with a couple more. Played well for the majority of the match. For 20 minutes though we were horrid. We are extremely fragile and seem to really struggle to wrestle back control when it starts slipping. Took a fantastic strike to compose us

So happy for the win, and the change in the look of the table.

Hopefully we can build on it, it could've been a different game if we'd conceded as we were playing with a lot of nerves early in the second half. A big win will help with that too.

Back to back wins would have us looking forward more than back for the first time in a while.

It's odd transitioning from that to the Allardyce appointment though.

It's always going to be with Rooney finding were he fits in a team,  in the centre from deep he was like Gareth Barry but with ridiculous ability to go with it tonight. We've missed someone that comfortable on the ball there all season and when Rooney has played in short spells there we have created chances

It may be worth remembering that these are below us in the league and also pretty shit too. They aren’t rocking up and smashing teams. They got beat 3-0 at home by Brighton

This bizarre notion that Moyes has revitalised them is just false

Damn right!these are shite and managed by the clueless Moyes!

Great performance tonight, made up for Unsworth. Thought there were some really good performances and he may have uncovered some key things in his last game in charge

Rooney playing deeper and Sigurdsson further forward makes sense

Holgate probably does deserve a run at centre back and Keane a bit of time out

I thought Jonjoe Kenny was outstanding tonight, also Aaron Lennon worked his arse off

Tom Davies much improved as well. Looked so much more comfortable on the ball than he has done recently

Massive pen save from Pickford. If we would have conceded then it would have made for a horrible tense end

I thought I'll have a cheeky couple of cans midweek to celebrate a new manager and get me through the following 90 minutes of shite. Didn't bank on that performance. I was back and forth to the fridge all night, gonna have a sore head in the morning. Fuckers.

Been on the godfather's (Whiskey & Amaretto) so will be in a whole world of pain tomorrow. Worth it though.

Didn't think I would be celebrating as opposed to commiserating tonight.

Would be good to see the return of the Denim Hoody

After all the abuse I gave @TheRam (http://www.nsno.co.uk/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=1602) at the time - I have genuinely been looking at buying a denim hoodie for myself recently -

What an incredible player Wayne Rooney is.

The technique on that goal is ridiculous.

His performance in general was what we've been crying out for. Desire, responsibility, quality and creativity.

That second goal was a thing of beauty as well. Crafted right out of north Liverpool that. Kirkdale, west Derby, Crocky. Is right lads.

If it wasn’t for rooneys performance, I would have made Kenny MOTM

Some of his runs in the first half reminded me of the old Leyton Baines we use to enjoy

Martina also played well considering he was out of position and made a crucial block in the 2nd half.
Why West Ham constantly allowed him time to control the ball and put it on his preferred right foot I have no idea, awful management that from Moyes; the lad was a sitting duck with his left foot but they constantly gave him time on the ball.

After despairing of him over the past few games he has played, this was a revelation to see him dictating things from deep and scoring 3. However we will not play many sides as bad as West Ham did tonight. Having said that 4-0 was harsh on them, not that I care.

I feel a bit sorry for Unsworth this morning . Some of our players need to hang their heads for the performances against Atlanta and Southampton and the board too for its inept handling of the situation . Great win and I hate fans who break it down and say we were shit for 10mins here and 5mins there . FFS we won 4-0 and saw what should be goal of the season . I can see like someone else said he is not the man for the job in these circumstances but what a shame to see Sammy Lee instead of Unsworth standing next to Allardyce ( as if that isn't hard enough ) where he could start to gain the experience he needs . The only good thing about Allardyce is last night will be his bench mark in terms of performance and drop below it and you will be gone . Everyone of them players knows he will bring people in and they know they are playing for their careers at Goodison . The 7 pts under Unsworth could be what turns it around as clubs are sinking past us down the table .

I think that was our best performance of the season, West Ham were on top for a 15 minute period at the start of the second half and yes should have scored, they hit the bar and missed a pen plus our nerves were frayed. We also finished the stronger and don't forget we had a lot of I juries and a suspended top scorer last night.
