Nice draw for Denmark. Group F looking like the group of death
If England can't get out of that group, they truly are hopeless.Quite a setup. One team with a manager who doesn’t think about defending, another team that just can’t defend in tournaments.
In fact, all the groups look pretty straight forward for the big countries. Maybe group F is the trickiest.
So it's Königsberg, Nizhny Novgorod and Stalingrad for England.Maybe, but we won’t be sending half the squad while the other half plays in Western Europe so it might be ok
The Germans already failed once on that route.
Nice draw for Denmark. Group F looking like the group of deathNo worry on the roof as Björn Borg once said.
Anyone know what UK times the games will kick off?
So it's Königsberg, Nizhny Novgorod and Stalingrad for England.
The Germans already failed once on that route.
More violence than any other world cup ...guaranteed ...who's going ?.
Nah, there will be absolutely nothing of the sort. There will be complete peace, enforced with an iron fist.Is that before or after the banana throwing starts?
Everything will be squeaky clean, civilised and friendly, just like the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.
How many of our squad will be going??Keane ,Walcott,
Pickford, Siggy, Niasse, Gueye, maybe Vlasic?
https://twitter.com/TheSportsman/status/964595366002864128
Keane ,Walcott,DCL bizarrely in with a shout now.
Still reckon Southgate is going to choose Hart as his number one.Course he is
Who does Hart play for these days?
Who does Hart play for these days?
West Ham, the only thing he saved today was a fan from getting a hiding off Mark Noble. :)
Watching those stewards chase the idiot was like the ending to a Benny Hill show.
Apparently the stewarding was terrible and there wasn't a policeman to be seen either.
Was listening to 606 and the West Ham fans that phoned in said there are no police inside the ground for any of their games - think they said there is a dispute about the financing of it. The only police they see is at the tube station.
They also said that this idiot got back into the stands, as the stewards gave up but he was dealt with by the fans.
Yeah, I think that's right about the police. Something to do with who had to pay for it, you'd think they could afford it, they're paying next to fuck all else for the ground.
Apparently the stewarding was terrible and there wasn't a policeman to be seen either.
On the news here that England is boycotting the world cup due to the Russian incident.
True or wha'?
Nah, just the Royal family not going
He tried again. "Going to watch the match this afternoon then?"
Ford glanced round at him.
"No, no point," he said, and looked back out the window.
"What's that, foregone conclusion then, you reckon sir?" said the barman. "Arsenal without a chance?"
"No no," said Ford, "it's just that the world's about to end."
"Oh yes, sir, so you said," said the barman, looking over his glasses this time at Arthur. "Lucky escape for Arsenal if it did."

The only police they see is at the tube station.I'm pretty sure the issue with policing at the Olympic Stadium is down to a requirement to install some electonic gadgetry to facilitate the use of Police radio inside the ground, as their radios don't work properly in there. West Ham's owners have flatly refused to pay for it, saying that it's either down to the police to get their own radios working in there or down to the landlords to stump up the cash to have the required cabling installed.

IIRC, the row is all over something like £100k for the work to be done, which is pocket change for a premier league club, especially one that has had a brand new stadium almost gifted to them for pennies.
Good to see Welbeck gets a deserved call up:
http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/43344416
How is Hart still getting called up lolol lolol
Never mind called up, he'll probably still start games even though he's become West Ham's cup goalie. He needs put out to graze, he's just an accident waiting to happen.
VAR will be used.... can't wait for the refs to use it every 5mins to make sure they got a corner/goal kick rightVar used that's Ally's world cup fucked ... banned first game for diving guaranteed as he's dodged it all year when we all wanted it ....now it's England it's nailed on he's bang to rights easily .
Panini can shove their stickers up their greedy arses at 80p per pack

Think I'll give it a miss this year. What do you reckon..?
It'll be fine.Good luck to anyone going there without a Kevlar stabvest....truly hope I'm wrong but it's nailed on to be dangerous .imho....nothing to do with media or the recent Russia may or may not have poisoned people shite .
As always, the media are scaremongering.
It's a footy tournament not world war 3.
They'll be the usual scraps between the ultras but other than that it'll be fine.

Good luck to anyone going on a night out in Liverpool without a stab vest.Hahaha it's a kiddies play area in comparison. ....we will revisit this disagreement after the tournament and see .
Even if you miraculously only bought exactly enough packs to get enough stickers to complete the album you're still looking at over £106. For something aimed primarily at kids thats a disgrace, and i'm having no part of it.
I'm going to put the money towards something sensible and worthwhile, like Infinity War Lego sets...
Some boffin has worked out the full cost of completing the album.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-43566749
I worked it out for the Brasil 2014 one, and the probability of filling it without swaps was ridiculous. You effectively couldnt guarantee ever doing it. Thats why it works for kids at school where everyone is doing it, but unless i'm massively out of touch on how much pocket money kids get then they simply won't be able to afford it.
Panini have blamed the increase on licensing costs from individual associations, which given i didnt think the last one had official branding and logos for all teams surprised me as to why they felt it neccesary to pay this time.
Just another example of football disappearing up its own arse.
Most of the new World Cup kits are on IOffer now, just bought France home, Argentina and Belguim away for my youngest lad, all for £37
Blag or legit?Nowt legit on ioffer
Blag or legit?
Blag but quality, I've bought loads off there
Got a link?
Fancy getting a new WC top for playing footy in but I'm not forking out 50 odd nicker.

Whats the delivery time from that site mate? I have used another one called DH Gate before but it took about a month to arrive.
No British referees picked for the world cup pretty much sums up the standard we're subjected too each week.
This was already decided in 2016..... usual media trying to make sensationalist headlines out of nothing
There's a Russian guy in our hostel (formerly homeless), who was in the Soviet Army in Afghanistan and he's a serious fella, but he's endlessly fascinating. I'm constantly asking about his life and experiences.
His opinion is that the World Cup will be absolutely fine, as long as people going to Russia are respectful and clued up. His basic advice is, never, ever fuck with any police or 'officials', under any circumstances. And then in terms of the normal Russian populace, he stresses that people are very proud and very keen to entertain guests. So the hospitality will be excellent, but that visitors need to be respectful of their hosts. Anyone that comes into the country with the typical 'I'm gonna get fucked up and fuck shit up' attitude will be in for a rude awakening.
I'd fucking love to go to Russia personally, but won't be able to afford it this summer. Definitely on the to-do list eventually.
I agree with Bluedylan's mate. I've been to Russia a few times for swimming.
They love visitors, provided you behave yourself.
They're always ready to help if you're in the street trying to read a map for instance. You'd have no end of people trying to help.
When dealing with authority, e.g at passport control at the airport, just have a smile on your face and don't get pissed off if something seems to take ages.
They're crazy enough to do this in the World Cup, you know.
Don't think I've ever been as unexcited by a World Cup as this one. Really weird.
Don't think I've ever been as unexcited by a World Cup as this one. Really weird.Look on the bright side, if we are still around, it'll be a bigger sweep with bigger prizes.
Suppose we should savour it as after this one and the next they'll be increasing it from 32 to 48 teams, and then the tournament is truly fucked.
First fixture is Russia V Saudi Arabia, what a game that will be

"A little trickery" was employed for the 1998 World Cup draw to ensure France and Brazil did not meet until the final, disgraced former Uefa president Michel Platini has claimed.
"If we finished first in the group and Brazil finished first, we could not meet before the final."
He laughed as he went on: "We did not spend six years organising the World Cup to not do some little shenanigans. Do you think other World Cup hosts did not?"
France look pretty strong to me, stronger than England that's for sure. Do they have a tough draw?

No, what I mean is if they qualify do they face someone like Brazil, Germany etc before the final
They are in Group C and if they win the group (which they should do) they will face the runners up in group D, which has Argentina, Nigeria, Iceland and Croatia in that group. If they finish second they will face the winners of that group, which you would assume is Argentina.Cheers pal.
Spain or Portugal might meet them in quarter finals, if they progress.
Fancy Colombia as dark horses ,Me to, they have a shit load of young energy with bags of pace.
I usually watch the WC, but I'm going to USA on the Sunday after it starts and not back until Round of 16, as they call it.I saw tons of games the last two world cups over here. It’ll be shown even if the us isn’t in it this time.
I very much doubt that games will be shown in the middle of Arizona, especially with an 11 hour time difference.
Might be a blessing in disguise.
Well reckon Saudi Arabia have slipped a brown envelope to be in the first game.
I saw tons of games the last two world cups over here. It’ll be shown even if the us isn’t in it this time.
Nainggolan left out. BafflingAnd retired
Nainggolan left out. Baffling
Think it's personal, haven't him and Martinez have fallen out. The fans are raging apparently, might be the first nail in his coffin a bit like when he called out Baines, it never works well to turn on a popular, senior member of a squad.
Could go either way, they could win it or fail to get out the group, they've had a few poor showings at major tournaments and that was before they had that clown in charge.
What i've thought of all the World cups.86 is my first memory
1990
>Pavarotti. (i actually cried when Argentina lost v W Germany.. i was only 12 tho)
>1994
Cocaine
>1998
Good
>2002
literally rigged
>2006
Good
>2010

WW3 possibly starts
86 is my first memory
Brilliant tournament bar the Maradona incident which even with a hand ball Shilton should have won and cleaned him
Italia '90 was brilliant. So many memories of that one.
Pavarotti, Schilachi
Roger Milla
Cameroon beating Argentina in the opening game
Higuita the crazy Colombian goalkeeper who used to dribble out of his box, and Carlos Valderama.
Insanely talented Yugoslavian side.
Some absolute legends playing for Holland and Germany.
94 and 98 were decent too. Favoutite memories of those were the Romanian and Bulgarian sides.
The Nigerian 94 side with Yekini, Amokachi, Okacha and a few others were great to watch.
that Yugoslavia team had some amazing players, myfave team of all time, the year after,, i got to saw the best club team play.. that was the Red Star Belgrade team that played against Marseille, shame that match went to penalties.. but they still won :D but it was basically the Yugoslavia team.. shame nato decided to kill the country.
The attacking talent in that side was ridiculous.
Stojkovic
Prosinecki
Pancev
Saveicevic
Boksic
Suker
they also had Mihajlovic who hit amazing freekicks,
Savic, and the combative Jugovic
Prosinecki was amazing, Pancev was a great striker... that was a proper team, they all played for each other.
I was talking about the Yugoslavian team, but yeah the Red Star side had most of them.
Nainggolan left out. Baffling
Anyone off to the Brazil vs Croatia friendly at Anfield on the 3rd of June?I remember going to Anfield to watch England vs Finland. They booed Beckham but cheered Hypiia, i thought never again.
I'm going, sitting in the kop.

I'm going, shitting in the kop.
Seen the alternative England squad lolol they just need to be playing football still.... screw youth and optimism, experience is where it's at:
GK: Hart, Foster, Forster
DEF: A.Cole, Baines, Clynne, Johnson, Jagielka, Terry, Lescott, Shawcross
MID: Wilshere, Shelvey, Milner, Barry, J.Cole, Carrick, Downing, Lennon
ATT: Rooney, Crouch, Defoe, Walcott
Probably still give the current squad a game as well.
The current England team would annihilate that team. I don't really get the relentless negativity tbh. Southgate's done a good job, stuck with his ideas and principles and has picked a good squad.
Theo Walcott has never played a single minute at a world cup.
your correct,,, by competative tie i meant, something other than a friendly.. he scored a hattrick in a world cup qualifying match.
Oh my god ive got World Cup fever already.
I've been watching the clips on bbc sport, they're doing a world cup countdown and showing a classic clip from past world cups everyday, some belter's in there.

I've just watched the Grosso goal in the semi for 06 and it's set me off.
Getting the all day sessions sorted with the lads now.
They're bringing out the champions league trophy at half time aren't they.
Nope
Nope
It's OK that I have a panini sticker album right?
The new Nigeria kit sold out in 15 mins after 3 million pre-orders and queues down the road at Nike stores?
That sounds like a lot of shirts to sell to me? How many do the likes of England and Brazil shift?
England playing quite well....
Playing really well. Need to be taking these chances though.
Brazil are staying at the Hilton in town.
Just seen Marcelo look out of the window.
Exciting stuff
Im going the game.
Sitting in the kop.
Taking a thank you Marcelo banner.
Don't forget your full Real kit with Ramos on the back. :)

I’m confused, who plays at left back for them?
Looking at that list the only option I can see is Vertonghen, surely they have a better option than an out of position CB?
Think they played 3 CBs with Carrasco at LWB in their last game.
Have we only got Gana, Pickford and Sigurdsson?
When's Scotland's first ga........................... ...............oh.
Classic Martinez, as good as their squad is, playing a winger at left back is going to leave them exposed at the top level.
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-cup/0/world-cup-2018-fixtures-full-schedule-dates-matches/
Just trying to plot what games I'm going to miss.
Loads of 3pm and 1pm games which is a shame, but a few half days for them.
I'm doing some translation work for the World Cup (it's what I've always wanted to do, so buzzing to be involved) - but it means I have to watch as many matches as possible! 😃
The game between Argentina and Israel was cancelled when Lionel Messi refused to go there and said he is a human before a footballer. All the financial losses due to cancellation of game will be accomodated by the Argentine forward Messi. (Radio La Albiceleste)
Translating to Scouse?
Be nice to see a few players/teams take a similar stance to the World Cup being held in Russia, but it's a huge sacrifice for them to make.
Come on then, who's winning it?
I won it with Wales on Fifa the other night. Beat England 3-2 in the final AET.
Bit grim the way the online version starts in the round of 16.
Took me 10 minutes to get to the final because of biffs dis-connecting any time I scored

I broke my arm that summer and my mum and dad got me the England kit, I was Gary Lineker, loved that World Cup
Just like England, Man Utd and Man City then.
England are far more watchable away from Wembley
England are far more watchable away from WembleyShould be a regular occurence
Seem like a good bunch of lads this England lot.
Fully behind them.
Feels a lot like youre watching the u21s, and that to me is a good thing.
Just realised I’m going to be in Portugal for the Portugal v Spain game. I need to find a local boozer, that should be a spicy atmosphere
So when does this all start then?
One of my neighbour's has got loads of England flags hanging from his windows and bunting all over his gutters, lowered the tone of the whole street it has.
Big fat Sam Quote" Draw against Tunisia would not be a bad result"
Absolute scenes in the Spain camp.
Press conference called with rumours they’re about to sack the manager for taking the Madrid job.
I bloody love football me.
I see Mexico, USA and Canada will host 2026. Does that mean all host nations automatically qualify?
Not long now, stinker of a game to start with though
How far has Russia fallen to be ranked 70th in the world? That really surprised me.
All went down hill after the dream team of Arshavin and Super Pav

You're working on a whiplash video?
looked like a foul on the defender for the goal, nearly scored again , would love to have seen VAR in action Vs RussiaNah definite slip that
He made a pretty decent save just then.He flapped and got lucky for me. Made it look very difficult
Dzagoev be out after that. Russia best player tooBe gutted wouldn't you

It's pretty bad isn't it?
Awful. I could VPN into the ITV stream but the stream quality would be worse and I couldn't super easily have it on the TV. I'll probably have to do that for the England game at least, can't take this "gone past the end line" or whatever it was nonsense.
In fairness there have been some decent US commentators I've heard in the past who know what they're talking about but these two seem like they've been pulled from a baseball game or something.
Take it the first 16 minutes of the second half weren't worth watching thenSaudi should have scored
Saudi Arabia are complete cack. I'll be surprised if they get a single point. :)They'll batter Egypt and give Uruguay a much better game. Don't be surprised if they qualify second in the group

How are you jerks keeping up with this?Live soccer TV app
Old school wall charts? A fancy app? Recording on your sky etc?
Is there anything that I can have as a fixture list that also lets me know which game is on which channel and what time.
Basically I need a World Cup PA.
Old school wall charts?
Looking forward to seeing this 45 year old goalkeeper for Egypt.Wouldn’t mind seeing the Saudi keeper replacing Karius
That's what the World Cup is about.
Mad cunts.
Love an old-school wall chart, me!
In other news, in our head office, they are having a 'Biscuit World Cup'.
Yesterday, chocolate fingers beat rich tea 3-0 and are currently top of their group with only one game played.
Each country was allocated a biscuit, everyone gets one of each biscuit and everyone votes on which one they prefer. Yesterday, chocolate fingers got 3 more votes than rich tea.
Guys over there are living their best life!
Couple of shillings on Cavani first goal and 3-1 to Uruguay @ 30/1
Anyone else giving this a sneaky watch in work?
Anyone else sick of hearing about Salah? I mean, he's had a great season but I've never heard so much hype.
Started impressively Egypt. Well organised with a good high press at selective moments.
I'm already sick of the English commentators and their tired, tired cliches and references.Just sad isn't it. Fat old men and their stereotyping with clichés. And getting paid handsomely for it.

lolol"the referee has disallowed it"
Jonathan Pearce is fucking wank.
Suarez looks like he is in need of some sustenance, maybe one of the Egyptian players will oblige and allow him to have nibble on their neck.
lolol

Would BBC or ITV win the World Cup of shit commentators?
Salah isn't a man for the big occasion is he? He'll bottle this tournament and if the Liv get another big game then hell bottle that too

I believed the posts on here saying that this was a good game and tuned in at half time, it's been terrible since then!It was a great first half, now it has scoreless draw written all over it, both teams need a win though with Spain and Portugal to play next
Have we had any VAR yet?No

Not often you see a group game like this.

GOAT? Got to be classed as one of the greatest players ever
That's what sets Ronaldo apart from the others. Nobody else could do that in that situation.

3-2 down against your neighbours

On a hat trick
There is no equal

To do that on such a big stage is quite unbelievable.

Hoping Tim Cahill scores today as that will be 4 tournaments in a row, matching Pele, Uwe Seeler, Miroslav Klose and Cristiano Ronaldo.Let’s hope so but he’ll have to do it off the bench as he is being used as an impact sub being 38 years old now. KO in 45 mins, looking forward to this one but I think the frogs will be to strong

Bloody hell, the last time Australia kept a clean sheet in a World Cup was 1974!
Bloody hell, the last time Australia kept a clean sheet in a World Cup was 1974!And they never scored a single goal in that tournament either
And they never scored a single goal in that tournament either
Goes without saying really but Lawrenson is just dreadful.
He just sucks the joy out of everything, the miserable cunt.
Aussies holding their own here but I think France has another gear
Just lobbed a pound on Australia to win. That should see France home and dry.
Shocking decision he clearly played the ball
Think we can all agree on that one.
What is he doing
How is Lawrenson still in a job.Cause he’s from the RS school of commentating bull shit
How come we didnt get the goal line technology view?
They just have.
No Cahill this game.
Reckon he's just making up the numbers. If he doesn't get on with 7 minutes to go and they need a goal he isn't getting on anytime soon. He'll probably get a chance in their last game if there's nothing at stake.
France have been as lethargic, uninterested and slow as I usually expect England to be
Should use VAR for stuff like that, book him for being a twat and holding his head when he wasn't even touched on the head.
Don't need VAR for it, but it does need to be a retrospective yellow card.
My only problem with the VAR was that it seemed like play went on too long before they decided to check the camera. They should stop and review it right away, if a certain amount of time passes it should be too late? Might've just seemed like longer to me because I just woke up (7am here) but seemed like play went on almost a minute before they checked the cameras
Has Phil Neville always been an angry pundit or is just the last two days?
Didn’t deserve to lose that.
Anyone else expecting the Messi show?Absolutely
I agree with this. If it is to be used, it's to be used right away. All the video guys have to do is tell the ref to stop the game, for him to look.
Anyone else expecting the Messi show?
Play has to continue until it stops naturally. You can't stop the game because something *might* have happened.
Iceland that!....... and love that chant.
Got to love them!
Gylfi will be great for us next season,
Argentina clearly missing Mori.
So the 2026 World Cup with 48 teams means there'll be an extra 16 games you say?
Thats going to be an epic month.
6 weeks

Didn't realize there were two Sigurdssons in the team. Iceland's naming conventions are great.
It's hard enough with every last name ending with sson, let alone the same names.
Love seeing the underdog showing up the superstars though.
They even have a "Sigurdarson" on the bench too. I wonder why the variation.
Isn't it something along the lines of Son of Sigurdar which is why there's so many similar last names? Doing genealogy must be a nightmare there.
Isn't it something along the lines of Son of Sigurdar which is why there's so many similar last names? Doing genealogy must be a nightmare there.Hugh problems for their doel office
Iceland are a good team.
Don’t know why our media are so desperate to demean them.
Mara Donna, still sniffing cocaine I see
The hand of Cod
Wow. Looked a bit of a soft penalty too.
Ronaldo 2- Messi 0
Why is he so shit at penalties?
Messies confidence is shot

A lot of players behind the ball for Iceland, I wonder if Siggy has seen that before? ;)
I can see Iceland nicking this now
Siggy is impenetrable.
Ridiculous to criticise him but Messi is seriously one footed.
Matterface really just said this result will be embarrassing for Argentina? Tit!Thought Iceland showed in Euro 2016 that they have a great taem right now.......
Thought Iceland showed in Euro 2016 that they have a great taem right now.......
I think the difference between Ronaldo and Messi is that Messi seems to have peaked somewhat. Ronaldo is still doing it to a very high standard. I think Messi has lost some of his edge. And he's 2 years younger too. I preferred peak Messi to peak Ronaldo but Ronaldo has the longevity to eclipse Messi.
Messi scored 50 in 58 games in all competitions this season, including 34 goals and 12 assists in 32 La Liga starts, as part of winning the league.
Messi scored 50 in 58 games in all competitions this season, including 34 goals and 12 assists in 32 La Liga starts, as part of winning the league. And Ronaldo has scored 4 more goals in 5 fewer appearances this year including the hat trick against Spain and being 2.5 years older than Messi. And he won the European cup as well of course.
Must be hell for you at the minute :)
Definate penalty but are refs just not going to give anything and wait on VAR?
Awful oenalty
Oh he's skied it.
All set up for Guerrero this
This commentator is fantastic.
First game was dreadful, so my benchmark was pretty low but most of the rest have been decent or at least not super annoying.
VAR is cancer.
High stakes stuff this. I'm on the edge of my seat.
Jacqueline, "how much do you win if they both score"? Me, "£3.75". :)
That buys you what? 3/4 of a pint?
A pint and probably change for a bag of cheese XL.
Missed all that game going to see Jurassic World 2. No matter how bad a game it might have been, it was the wrong decision.
I don't doubt it. I'd imagine watching Sam Allardyce's Everton would have been preferable.
High stakes stuff this. I'm on the edge of my seat.I'm up 71p after Denmark scored. Life changing stuff.

Nigeria, are they flying or crashing this year?
Is Kramaric someone we've been linked to in the past?
Had a shit spell at Leicester didn’t he
Is Kramaric someone we've been linked to in the past?
Roy Keane just spent the entire half time analysis looking like someone getting a bollocking in work that they don't agree with. Was rather red faced, quite a fume going on there
Robert Prosinecki in the studio on Croatian TV.
:hail:
Class player from a class era.
He looked like Steptoe as well 👍🏼

I liked boban at Milan he was quality
Yep, superb player; add to that Suker, Boksic, Jarni, Stanic, Bilic, Simic, and Vlaovic amongst others, and they had an excellent side at Euro ‘96 and France ‘98
Produce a lot of good players for a country that size
Big fan of Costa Rica having a player called Ian Smith
Didn't he write Neighbours?Harold Bishop?
Harold Bishop?.......................wasn't he in Coronation St ?
Harold Bishop?
Oh great, here comes Ian Dowie.
The man finds it a struggle to string out the simplest of sentences.
We were entertained with a little argument between Alexi Lalas and Ian Wright on FS1. Lalas won.
Lalas vs Wright.
That is box office.
We’ve got Patrice evra in the studio who can’t comprehend that the women pundit actually knows something about football.
Milinkovic-Savic is really, really good.
Could see him moving for big (75m+) this summer if he has a good tournament
£132m was the last price I saw quoted, to Real Madrid.
Enjoyable game this.
Every game has been apart from the Croatia one last night.
First time I've seen 'The Sergeant' Milinkivic-Savic actually play. What a player he already is and is surely going to become. Monsterous but with a silky touch.
Same here and can safely say he’s going to be incredible.
Am I the only one who thought this game was shit...
Am I the only one who thought this game was shit...
You don't really like other football, outside of Everton though really, do you Bally? (correct me, if I'm wrong there)
You should have listened to the pod that Si and Bally did last world cup. It was great.
Am I the only one who thought this game was shit...No I got bored and went and vacuumed the car out.

Any reason Boateng is being booed in Moscow?
Wonder if Joachim Low will have a cheeky sniff of his baws?

Not one mention of tactics from Pearce or Neville so far. Just rambling on about Sane. Brainlessness personified.I've been putting notes for the podcast, when we finally get the time to fucking do it like, and I wrote something similar, pair of fucking potatoes
The glee in the bbc studio at Germany losing is palpable.
I think Lineker might have actually wet himself.
Boss Southgate isn’t he
Does Ferdinand keep referring to Mexico as 'we'?
Like, if they'd made the better decisions in the final third we could be 3 or 4 up

Hernandez and Vela run a lot, but aren't very good.....
Vela had a superb game, I thought.
Vela had a superb game, I thought.
3rd player ever to be in 5 World Cups some achievement that.
4th isn’t it?
Don't agree with this being a "huge" shock if Mexico win, they've always been a decent team, it's just Pearce not knowing much outside of European football.
Lots of pervy cameramen at this world cup too, good stuffNot as pervy as rio man they were filthy
Hernandez is so shite.
Don't get the hate for Hernandez, he set up the goal.
Don't agree with this being a "huge" shock if Mexico win, they've always been a decent team, it's just Pearce not knowing much outside of European football.
He’s a fucking disgrace.
The commentary and punditry has been pretty awful across both channels.
Probably more about Germany losing being the shock.
Let's be honest they rarely lose to anyone.
Yeah, it's a surprise but Pearce was going on like Saudi Arabia had just done them over. Mexico rarely fail to get out their group.
I'm still not having that Neymar will ever get close to being at Messi/Ronaldo levels.
Is this Karl Pilkington on co-commentary?
No idea who it is but your right about him sounding like Karl pilkington
Lee Dixon isnt it?
He’s in the studio ain’t he
Haha fuck off Clattenburg, if they review that they might as well review every corner and give a million penalties
Lee Dixon isnt it?

Remember now that Karembou's wife is pretty lovely.

Would be decent if the punditry team could do a bit of research and tell us some of these Panama players like.
Instead they’re talking about hazard and KDB and saying everything that’s already been said.
I've had to bin Lawro off, and put the 5 live commentary on the red button.
I fucking hate him. Absolutely unreal the misery that he projects.
And then once you leave him, they go to Danny fucking Murphy in the studio.
Great minds think alike.
Seriously the 5 live commentary is better. Dion Dublin's a tad annoying, but they've actually done some research and they don't sound like they hate everything like Lawro does.
They did make hard work of it but they looked decent enough, korea were shocking thoughAnd the group is wide open with Mexico beating Germany... Bastards, Gemany wont lose points twice in the group stages!
And the group is wide open with Mexico beating Germany... Bastards, Gemany wont lose points twice in the group stages!
Great goal.
A Martinez team lacking tempo, though, who’da thunk it?
I really dislike him now. He's still wittering on about never changing his principles, and being stopped in the middle of a big project at Everton. Still delusional, still not accepted any responsibility.
He'll cost them in this tournament at some point, when he comes up against a coach with a tactical brain.
Still think when he retires, Rom will consider himself an Evertonian first and foremost.
Lawrenson there saying how are we to know VAR allowed the goal.
Well the fact the players all lined up for the restart might’ve gave it away.
He hates our guts!he couldn't wait to get the hell out of here
Still think when he retires, Rom will consider himself an Evertonian first and foremost.
I don’t think Everton will ever cross his mind again, apart from the times he’s playing against us
you are probably right, unrequited love is my specialty
/goes down old Smiths YouTube rabbit hole
Unpopular, maybe - but good vibes for Big Rom and Roberto from me. They gave us their best effort, and especially one very, very special season (that should have seen us qualify for Champions League if not for a fluke of maths).
Steady on. We finished 5th and played some decent football along the way. Our expectations are set low if that's what we call a "very, very special season".
Make your own mind up, but niether would be left with clean sheets
c'mon, we set total points records (in a normal Prem season, we finish 3rd) and that season was mostly brilliant. Remember how it felt at the time. It was a Prague Spring in a decade of utter misery. I only wish I had cherished it more.
Though it doesn't mean I don't think we should aim for even better, mind.
Concussion that. Expect a howler.
Still think when he retires, Rom will consider himself an Evertonian first and foremost.
BBC and ITV are obsessed with Salah

I wish we’d signed McGuire instead of Keane, he’s causing Tunisia all sorts of problems from set pieces, mom so far
They showed Ian Wright celebrating England's goal during the half time break. The guy cracks me up.
Still think when he retires, Rom will consider himself an Evertonian first and foremost...............................no chance. He didn't even consider himself an Evertonian when he was here. I'm a big fan of the guy but he made no secret of his desire to move on .
Everyone on Fox's panels are a bit strange except for the womenfolk. It's like they wanted the international footy version(s) of Terry Bradshaw. No idea why.
Alli is suffering from what every star attacking mid is suffering from this tourney (clutching and grabbing, not enough cards for it, certainly no reds)
Taking a knock?
Just get Rashford on
What is the point of Ashley Young?
What is the point of Ashley Young?
People lose their heads with England, both ways. It's either superb or awful in a lot of people's eyes.
If you just take a step back, and try to view it objectively, we've played well, created plenty of chances and would normally be a few up. More of the same, and it should be a formality.
Everything coming through Henderson.
Hence why it's 1-1 still.
Whens it ever been superb
The crowd seem to think they're at a Coldplay gig with their phone lights on.
Surprised he's not given Vardy a burst, the way Tunisia like to pass the ball out. Made for Vardy's pressing.
lol @ Gareth Southgate's waistcoat.
Think he's looking smart.
lol @ Gareth Southgate's waistcoat.
Also, Trippier's not been great. In there for his delivery, which has been mostly wank. Alexander Arnold is better than him.
Tunisia were a right bunch of shithouses.
Thought Henderson did well today.
Reckon he’s under and unfairly rated now actually.
It's definitely a different England team right now to be able to go on to win that tonight. In context it's a great performance really.
Lukaku scores twice and thinks I am winning this golden boot thingy for sure. Up pops Harry Kane to ruin it yet again for him. Reckon he hates Harry Kane with a passion.0

reckon the guy with 3 v Spain might have something to say about that
For sure, just think Belgium and Engand have the potential to go further.
really? Recon Portugal may go all the way
Lukaku talks the talk while Kane walks the walk.Dya reckon?
Utd would swap them and give Spurs £50m in a heartbeat I reckon.
Dya reckon?
I don't think there's a lot between them tbh
Portugal are my pick for the tournament.
Only problem is the defence but they’ve got plenty of very good players elsewhere surrounded by the ultimate winner.
Nah, too reliant on one guy is never a good thing.
Let's say we beat Panama. Will we go full strength against Belgium or play a second string to keep key players fresh for the knockout?
For me we should go more of less full strength to try keep the momentum going and try get the confidence boost a result against Belgium would provide.
England managers of old though would rest players a number of players I reckon. Southgate I'm not sure what he'll do.
really? Recon Portugal may go all the way
I think we'll go out in the quarters, when we meet a strong side. We're decent but there's a few glaring weaknesses to exploit. The defence being the primary one. Tunisia barely tested it, and every time they did, they got some joy. McGuire-Stones-Walker will get rinsed by quality teams.
Are you purposely spelling his name wrong because you want Maguire to be Scottish?
I wouldn't be surprised to see us lose in the last 16 to Poland/Colombia if it panned out like that.
Which would be fine because the England setup needed to change and the atmosphere around the team did too. Southgate has gone a long way in doing that but there hasn't been enough time to change everything. 2020 and 2022 and more will be expected.
You never know in tournaments like this though. Most winners get a huge slice of luck at some stage and we might get some at just the right time.

Is James on the bench?
Escobar's infamous own goal occurred in a match against the United States on June 22, in the second match for Colombia at the 1994 World Cup. Stretching to block a cross from American midfielder John Harkes, he inadvertently deflected the ball into his own net. The United States won the game, 2–1.[15]
After the 1994 FIFA World Cup, Escobar decided to return to Colombia instead of visiting relatives in Las Vegas, Nevada.[11] On the evening of July 1, 1994, five days after the elimination of Colombia from the World Cup, Escobar called his friends, and they went to a bar in the El Poblado neighborhood in Medellín. Then they went to a liquor store. Shortly afterwards, they arrived at the El Indio nightclub. His friends split up. At approximately 3:00 the next morning, Escobar was alone in the parking lot of El Indio, in his car, when three men appeared. They began arguing with him. Two of the men took out handguns.[16] Escobar was shot six times with a .38 caliber pistol.[8] It was reported that the killer shouted "¡Gol!" ("Goal!") after every shot, once for each time the South American football commentator said it during the broadcast.[17] The group then drove away in a Toyota pickup truck, leaving Escobar to bleed to death. Escobar was rushed to the hospital where he died 45 minutes later.[16][18][19]
Terrible keeping
They deserve to be level
They've looked more dangerous but they're only playing Japan. Hardly been banging on the door though. And the constant theatrics are ridiculous.
Yes, but it's expected, they've been doing it for years
Love a free kick going under a wall me.
True, doesn't make it any less annoying, though. The free-kick should've been picked up by VAR. It's either a Japan free-kick or 50/50, never in a million years should that go Colombia's way.If they went to VAR on every decision needing made the spectacle of the game would be lost
What's the point in using VAR if they're going to pick and choose when to apply it? Surely a free-kick on the edge of the box is a 'game-changing incident'.
If they went to VAR on every decision needing made the spectacle of the game would be lost
You don't see that very often these days.Must be harder to hit it sweet and under a wall without scuffing, or maybe just me, haha.
I'm done with betting in this World Cup.
I put £20 on Colombia to make the Semis
Getting a bit bored with all the over focus on Salah, he is not the only player to have ever been injured before a World Cup.
Not his doing and I hope he does play and shows what he can do on the biggest stage.
Boycotting the whole competition if Gana doesn’t get that goal.
Boycotting the whole competition if Gana doesn’t get that goal.
Think they've already ruled it an OG. Not sure Gueye's initial shot was even on target, looked to be going wide of the left post. If it was on target they may have given it to him.
Think a Senegal could cause some upsets. Some very good players and Mane can beat anyone on his day.
Good on Senegal. Really pleased for them. Was also impressed with Japan earlier.
Remember the days when African nations were so "naive" at this level? Big changes in the past 20 odd years.
No red button option, so will watch this with no volume as listening to these two is torture.

Its bordering on the absurd the amount of media coverage a player with a slight shoulder injury and how its effected his nation who are absolute shite anyway
Pathetic this, they're on about it on BBC Breakfast now. He had a slight shoulder injury that kept him out for 3 weeks not some kind of career threatening injury that he was out for a year with.
He had a shit game with an average team, get over it.
Carvalho has a bigger turning circle than Gareth Barryhes got a bigger turning circle than jupiter

Starting to realise I don’t have to watch every game.
Penalties aside, anyone feel like the referees has been extremely lenient this tournament?
Gutted.
Lino should be spotting that though.
Starting to realise I don't have to watch every game.I missed Uruguay Saudi today went the gun for half hour, fully zoned in there and saw the last 10 minutes, doesn't seem I missed much.
Haha wtf was he thinking with that throwFucking knobhead behaviour it was
Reckon Iran could do Portugal in the last game.
Haha wtf was he thinking with that throw
Iran kind of stole a piece of my heart then. Really wanted them to get one at the end
Oh and Spain were awful there. Dunno if people watched Portugal earlier, but they were comfortably outplayed by Morocco.
Phil neville didn’t know Uruguay had won the World Cup twice.
must admit I switched over to RTE when I heard her commentate, just couldn't stand her voice like. Had to put the telly on mute though as Ray Houghton was doing my head in over there, all and all it's been a shocking world cup so far for commentators and co commentators, has it always been this bad or are am I just a contrary fucker? We used to have brian moore, gerald sinstadt, brill they were

Has a referee over ruled VAR yet? Can they?
Has a referee over ruled VAR yet? Can they?
Yeah the ref has the final say on all matters still. He can choose to not look at the VAR, he can overrule the VAR, or go with it.I just think it's pointless having him watch it. Should just say "we've seen it you're wrong" and save time that way.
I think it's working well. You'll still get ones where it's a matter of opinion, even with the replay, like that pen in this game.
The commentator has just said he should ask Mo Salah about the shoulder injury
france v peru next, another struggle for the big team or a high scoring victoryI have to go to bed now, working in the morning, it’s fucked when work gets in the way of the footie so I’ll miss the next two games

Argentina struggled like fuck to qualify, just edged out Peru, I don't know why people are so surprised about them being wank
Theyve got no shape or structure. Even Messi can't fix that
The question is... Could Ronaldo?
Has the Croatian keeper made a save yet?
Rakitic, what a game he has had tonight too.
Iceland only really need a win tomorrow after that.
That was as enjoyable as Brazil getting hammered in the semis last time.
The question is... Could Ronaldo?
Not in this team, no
Now would be the time to put a fiver on Argentina winning the whole thing. Nigeria will beat Iceland tomorrow. Argentina will smash Nigeria and go on to sweep the rest of the tournament. Be well worth your while.
Been hearing some reports that Messi is very much the dictator of that side. Picks the team, decides how they play etc. And that off the filed he's a right misery, not getting involved in any social aspects of the camp. It's a bit weird as for years Ronaldo has been criticised for being a massive ego and not a team player, with Messi being just that and not having the ego, whereas what's seemingly coming out of this tournament is quite the opposite. I think it's fair to say Messi hasn't looked like his Barcelona self for some time when playing for Argentina, if ever.
The argies looked a total shambles, don't think they'll progressBack them to win the tournament, this is the best price you’ll ever get them at, one good win in their next game and their back in it, they’ve been a bit unfortunate but their luck could change in a heartbeat, you heard it here first
Back them to win the tournament, this is the best price youll ever get them at, one good win in their next game and their back in it, theyve been a bit unfortunate but their luck could change in a heartbeat, you heard it here first
They've not been unlucky though just total shite, something ain't right in that squadProbably having Maradona there is putting to much pressure on them, he’s criticising everything they do.
The argies looked a total shambles, don't think they'll progress
Nah, Argentina are in complete disarray behind the scenes. Colonel Messi has lost it.
If Iceland beat Nigeria later then it's out of their hands, they will need to twat Nigeria in their last game and hope Croatia do them a massive favour and twat Iceland.
Paulinho's been superb here. Every decision right for about 15 minutes now, and perfect execution.
Yeah been impressed, isn't he at a Chinese club
Brazil will now shit it and Costa will grab a winner in injury time.
Should have booked him.
Back them to win the tournament, this is the best price you'll ever get them at, one good win in their next game and their back in it, they've been a bit unfortunate but their luck could change in a heartbeat, you heard it here first
Brazil have looked pretty good, you can't say they're not dominating this half (missed the first one). They've had plenty of decent chances too.
Maybe Costa Rica will show something last 10 minutes, but they're probably happy to get a point from what they likely consider the toughest game from their group so I'm not expecting them to grow in their ambition all that much.
Costa will now shit it and Brazil will grab a winner in injury time.
Now would be the time to put a fiver on Argentina winning the whole thing. Nigeria will beat Iceland tomorrow. Argentina will smash Nigeria and go on to sweep the rest of the tournament. Be well worth your while.

Why is Neymar crying? He only won a group game ffs.
Obviously heard I don’t rate him.
Why is Neymar crying? He only won a group game ffs.
Neymar should play for the shite.
Think it's probably just more the stress of being Neymar and all that surrounds it, but yeah it's a bit OTT.
Yep, got a lot of weight of those young shoulders hasn't he, the crocodile tears might just deflect some the attention away from his constant diving, the dirty rotten cheater
Think people judge others very harshly. Because they wealthy etc. Their level of stress, pressure and responsibility is on another level compared to anything we would have to deal with. That isn’t to say that our problems are small or insignificant. Just that everybody is affected by stress and pressure.
They narrowly beat the international equivalent of West Brom in a group game. I remember we all took the piss out of the redshite when they did their bow after securing a late draw against the mighty West Brom at home.
I get what you're saying though. Life is very tough at the top. And can be very lonely too. And haters gonna hate.
One's a world cup, every 4 years after drawing their first game, the other is a random Prem game.
Yeah I am hoping Argentina get knocked out. This whole Ronaldo/Messi debate shouldn’t even be a debate anymore. Ronaldo killing it.
It's not even close and Messi is infinitely the better player
So if Argentina and Iceland both win, Argentina go through? How does that work?
HAHAHA!!!!!!!
It's a pretty widely held view.
Look a really good side, Serbia. Enjoyed watching them in the first game as well. Hoping to develop my mancrush on Milinkovic Savic.
Zinedine's always good value on commentary.
Good strike but I'm not having the keeper there
It was past him before he had any time to react it was hit that hard.
Fair play to Switzerland. Didn't see em coming back and winning that.
By whom?
Let’s look at this.
Left foot- Messi granted
Right foot- Ronaldo by a mile
Headers- Ronaldo by a mile
Speed- Ronaldo
Goal scoring records- pretty much even although I think Ronaldo shades it.
Honours won- Ronaldo
Can play different positions and systems- Ronaldo
BMT- have to say Ronaldo
Longevity: Ronaldo
Taking a penalty for your life: Ronaldo
Free Kicks: Messi
Two players streets ahead of almost anyone previous to them but Ronaldo wins it. Messi is lovely to watch granted but Ronaldo is the more complete, better player.

Been a boss World Cup so far this.
So many great goals.
So many late goals
And the standard of refereeing has been spot on.
The top teams have been a bit subpar but that’s opened it up to nice shocks for Croatia and Mexico

Has anyone changed their mind on VAR?Think mainly it has been good. Can see that it can cut down on mistakes (Neymar pen) but can also provide the ref a chance to make another mistake (Risdon pen) when the decision was correct on the first place.
I was always in the give it a go and see how it goes camp, as I was largely in favour of it. Personally, I think it's brought far more positives than negatives.
I'd not say it's a perfect system, but neither was the current way of doing things.
I don't think there's any chance Messi picked that team and system yesterday that completely nullifies him? That was Sampaoli's team that started yesterday.
The pen they got away with against Serbia, and the clear push for their equaliser against Brazil, suggests that the Swiss may finally be tapping into that stash of nazi gold
Louis Saha would have a hat trick by now.
do you think we will get battered by Belgium or close affair?Score draw
do you think we will get battered by Belgium or close affair?
do you think we will get battered by Belgium or close affair?
Well beat them.
Getting done i reckonBelgium look venerable at the back though so I can see some joy there for Kane & Co
No chance we will get battered by them.
Belgium look venerable at the back though so I can see some joy there for Kane & Coi reckon england will score ram, but just feel belgium will get a couple more
They’re exactly what you expect from a Martinez side.
You’re not going to get away with Carrasco at RWB against a competent side.
Belgium look venerable at the back though so I can see some joy there for Kane & Co
fucking hell batshuayi with some misses!!
Think he has been a bit unlucky. Kinda like him as a player, has potential.
Would take him here.
Venerable!Vulnerable, sorry mate is that ok for you now?
They’re exactly what you expect from a Martinez side.
You’re not going to get away with Carrasco at RWB against a competent side.
Why are games being played out of order? Like Belgium and Tunisia have now played two games and are in group G, yet only game each have been played in group F.
Maybe the time of the match is related to the location in russia.
They’re exactly what you expect from a Martinez side.
You’re not going to get away with Carrasco at RWB against a competent side.

come onnnn MEXICO!!!
Keeper needs a slap.
Impressed with the work rate of Lozano.
Anytime Vela has been mentioned in both Mexico matches they keep describing him as "the Arsenal flop”.
From what I remember, he was pretty young at Arsenal and he's gone on to be a genuine success in La Liga with Real Sociedad.
Who remembers the little Mexican keeper Campos who used to wear the colourful kits?
I swear he was only about 5'7".
I don’t think it matters to much who wins the group, I can see both England and Belgium progress past the group of 16If they both progress through the last 16, it may matter won wins the group. The winner could meet Germany/Brazil in the quarters, the runner up could meet Mexico/Switzerland.
Sweden to beat Germany?
So Sweden only really need a draw tonight then?
do you think we will get battered by Belgium or close affair?
Son feeling the pressure of being his country’s star player and struggling badly with it.
Real shame as he’s a class act.
VAR proved useless again there .. red can still prove bias overules every time .
What's the actual point of it ....if its not used for exactly that season ?.
The humans operating VAR may have proved “useless”, or unaware of the rules, but that doesn’t mitigate the mostly positive contribution of VAR to this World Cup so far.
Exactly but if they don't use it what's the point of it ...that perticular scenario was a golden case for it .
Did he cry at the end of the game?
Always think Low looks like a fella who stinks of cigarette smoke.
Big Jogi looks like he's just woke up in a hospital ward, wondering where the fuck he is.
It’s great to see the Germans and argies struggling for a change
Human error will always be in football to an extent. It’s about minimizing the amount. Would be amazed not to see VAR be continued to be used and hopefully honed in future World Cups.
Has that ever happened before? The top 2 in the previous tournament both going out in the group stage in the following tournament.Argies and france in japan/korea

Would love it if the Germans went out tonight.

Well googled (or remembered).Argies in englands and denmrks group, senegal put paid to france i think, papa bouba diop ??

Just what the commentators said dudeOh sorry.
Germany battering them right now.
Maybe.
If it happens then I could see Germany turning around the goal difference against South Korea should Mexico beat Sweden in the last round of fixtures.
Brazil's group is interesting. If they lose against Serbia then they'll be out.
Can't see anything but a Germany win at the minuteNeither did the italians.
Piss poor from Sweden that. The whole team. Been awful since the sending off.
Some goal that but a stupid free kick to give away.
Nah, papering over the cracks in my opinion.
So if Sweden beat Mexico and Germany beat SK, who goes through?South Korea?
South Korea?

Off the 3 bets I put on Germany winning was the least favourable, all totalled up I'm 10p down, fucking raging!
Fuck it!Men vi var så jävla nära!
Close but no fucking cigar....
Agree with you all. Sweden aren't very great but an upset every now and are we capable of.
And there are two reasons to drink after a game....
SK would be on zero points, the other three on 6 points in my hypothesis. You are relying to much in mathematics
Goal difference init
Imagine getting 6 points and not making through to the next round.Thats why the 24 team tournament was better.
Thats why the 24 team tournament was better.
we will beat them if we end up playing them. Id prefer to win the group and face them rather than Mexico. There's the slight matter of last 16 matches first.
There's the slight matter of last 16 matches first.
So if Sweden beat Mexico and Germany beat SK, who goes through? If Sweden and Germany each win 1-0 all three teams have six points, scored three, conceded two. But if you remove the games against Sth Korea, and just count how they did against each other, Mexico go out and 1st and 2nd is decided by red and yellow cards issued. I think.
Interesting listening to Lamps and Ferdinand talking about tactics under Sven, or lack of.

There's been a lot of penalties this tournament.
The through ball for Lingard looked offsideLingard looked on, the other player would have been off though.

Haha, even when England score and it has nothing to do with The Shite, they have to mention that the goal was “Greeted by a roar from Jordan Henderson!” 😂doesn't he squeak?
We are guna win the fucking World Cup guys!!!Steady, commander...
Steady, commander...
just nice to be able to be excited about an England team.U19s
Panama disgracing themselves here.Game 3 "rested"
If you only get a one game suspension for a red I’d be wanting one of our guys to throw some digs in.
Not ideal this early kick.off, going to be bladdered by 3

I thinkHarry KaneJohn Stones might become England's all time top scorer after this game lol
I know it's 5 nil and great but you'd expect us to destroy a team like this.

That goal would have to be given to RLC you would think
Not if it hit Harry Kane last.It was a deflection so it would go to the player having the shot wouldn’t it

State of these celebrating a goal, fuck off
Its their first ever world cup goal.
Back to 2nd in the group
On what, yellow cards?
Ok, both Belgium and England have the same points, goals scored and goals conceded. Why is England now 2nd?Alphabetical order.

Is Danny Murphy one of the worst out there?
Disciplinary is the same at the minute I think?

I love Gareth Southgate. What a man.
Murphy been up Henderson’s arse he entire game, nauseating !
Not the greatest advert for Dele Alli to get his place back either looked more positionally comfortable with RLC in the mid .
Think you have Alli or Lingard in, not both. It's like the Gerard / Lampard days. One or the other.
The way Lingard played today I think he should be nailed on as Alli doesn't really turn up for England .
Went to the same school as Southgate.
Same with rashford over sterling for me
Did you wedgie him
He's about 8 years older than me so not there at the same time. I knew his sister Michelle quite well.
I also remember his parent's house getting vandalised by some bellends after his penalty miss in 96.
The way Lingard played today I think he should be nailed on as Alli doesn't really turn up for England .
Fucking hell, Zabaleta is unreal looking isnt he. Making my insides ache.
It's odd as you'd think he'd be on a similar wavelength to Kane.
Decent win. Will get more enthused if we beat a decent team.

Fucking hell, Zabaleta is unreal looking isnt he. Making my insides ache.
The thing is that you can actually get quite far in this tournament without beating decent opposition.
Get a decent round 16 draw, then win your next game on pens and you can easily find yourself in the semi finals without having beaten anyone of note.
No but there's lots of good, very awkward teams who aren't 'name teams' in there. Teams like Mexico, Croatia, Senegal, Russia, Switzerland, Serbia are capable of beating anyone on a given day.
Panama and Tunisia were awful, let's be fair. Not to take anything away from England, who dealt with them.

But let's not forget the most goals England have ever scored in one match in the world cup is 4 goals. That was back in 1966. And one of those goals wasn't even a goal. VAR would have proven that.
Yeah it was decent. And they played well. Good on them. Loads of things to like about the team and the manager.
Just not getting carried away until we play and beat a decent team. Same with a team like Belgium.
I’m enjoying this World Cup because I have no expectations and I’m just loving each game we win but still keeping my expectations in check

Seen a few tweets that Sampoli has completely list the dressing room.
The players are going to pick the team themselves against Nigeria....
It's the world cup. Enjoy the moment. I think it's more about the tournament itself than actually winning it I think (although of course I want my teams to go far).
Will never forget that summer of 2006 in France especially. In terms of atmosphere, that was the best tournament for me because I lived in France then (although 1990 and 86 were better in terms of football and excitement). It's bringing everyone together, especially the smaller teams. Look how many are loving the underdogs upset the big boys.
I'm loving this tournament so far.
The tournament's been amazing. I've been on here pretty much every day, saying how much I'm enjoying it when people have been slagging little teams off, or slagging games off that don't have loads of goals in them. It's been a superb start to the tournament from loads of perspectives. Really pleased for the Russian people as well, that it's going off well.
With England, probably like a lot of people, I like them but it's not a massive emotional investment like Everton. I'm pleased if they win, but not distraught if they lose. So it hopefully helps you to be more objective. And as objectively as I can, I'm thinking 'yeah, they've done really well, but they've not been really tested yet'. I don't even mean against the favourites. If we beat a decent team like Belgium, Columbia, Senegal or whoever, and played well, then I'd be extremely optimistic. Like I say, it's not a downer on England. It's not their fault they had the two easy games first, and they've taken full advantage.
Has there ever been a decent African goalkeeper?
Has there ever been a decent African goalkeeper?
Kameni? Enyeama?
I’m seeing people saying this tournament has been shit so far.
Honestly don’t know what people want from a football tournament.
Personally think it’s been the best I can remember. Quality, goals and drama throughout.
The fact there hasn’t been one 0-0 yet tells its own story.
If Poland vs Columbia is a draw later. Be exciting knowing any of the 4 can qualify from this group.
This is the first time I've invested more of me in England since 1996. Probably a mixture of the arrogance of the golden generation, slowly losing my national identity and the fact I (like most on here) find it hard to support an England full of rs players.
It's crazy really, we had far better players a decade ago, with a high profile manager, yet always did poorly when it mattered. Now we have Gareth Southgate, average at best in club football who has come across well in the few times I've seen him interviewed and is doing a very decent job on the international stage and players who don't have the big egos, everything seems down to earth. I even like Harry Kane now. I want him to beat Rooney's record now.
Of course, I'm also not exposed to the same media coverage of the national team either which makes it a lot easier to "come back" as well. I didn't even know there was a media attack on Sterling until I saw the thread on here about him the other day. I don't like Sterling because he's ex rs and not a very good goal scorer.
I feel like I've been out in the wilderness for years regarding the national teams, and while I technically have the four nations (three in this tournament) to get behind, it's really one I can have a true depth of interest in. I can't invest heavily like someone who would support two teams, Everton and Celtic say lol. It's good to see England off to a good start at least as a decade ago Tunisia would have been a draw and Panama perhaps a 2-0 sluggish win.
Who has said its shit? Madness.... its been fantastic.
Also starting to get pissed off at people mocking England fans for celebrating. Get a fucking life.
Yeah, people have their own reasons and national identity is a personal thing in a way. I couldn't be any less bothered about 'Englishness' or whatever that means. Not in a self loathing leftie way, I just don't see it as a big deal either way. We've done good and bad in the world, and it is what it is (to quote Harry Kane). It's an accident of birth where you happen to be born and emerge on the Earth's surface, in my eyes, so I don't attach a massive significance to that.
Probably my main dislike is just England fans, and the kinds of people that it can sometimes attract. Of course there are sound England fans within that. Anyone who wants to talk about empires or insinuate some kind of cultural superiority or whatever would be my issue, and I dare say all national teams have people like that following them. We seem to have quite a lot like that, but maybe I see it more than with other nations.
As for this team, overall it's likeable, it's progressive and the manager has got a brain in his head and has conducted himself immaculately in my opinion, when plenty of England fan morons were slaughtering him without any justification.

Think it's been brilliant so far. Haven't taken this much interest in a WC for a while. Loved 1990. This is almost as good.

86, 90 and 98, been shite since then

I remember us all finishing work early and getting blootered watching it, gave them a good game as well. Ah Scotland, masters of the brave defeat. :)
Wasn’t 1990 actually a very dull tournament and the only reason it’s remembered fondly is because England did well?

haha you gotta give it to them.
Isn't this due to some interpretation of the kick off rules that the game can't start until all players are out of the opposition half, the cloudy part being that if they're all off the pitch then in theory they're out of the half so the game can restart? No one's confirmed it yet but it was thought that's why Trippier didn't celebrate one of Kane's goals and also Portugal got a player to stay on the pitch when Ronaldo scored.

Made up for falcao after missing out on Brazil.
Also made up to see Columbia at full flow here. They captured my heart in 14 and they still have a hold of it.
It’s COLOMBIA NOT COLUMBIA

No one wants to play Columbia. They've got too much talent, especially if they get some confidence.

What? Why are they doing it like this?
Good job the weird scheduling of Group H's last games being played before G's means England will know who awaits depending on the 1st/2nd place finish.
Are they doing that thing where the last group games are played at the same time?
Yeah, 3pm and 7pm kick offs this week, with 2 games at each time.
is weird every other grouo is played in order ABCD etc still think it will be Columbia and we are going out.............., read and heared everyone saying we should make the 1/4's but Colombia my dark horses
Hate that.germany austria caused that
germany austria caused that
Group B
Play after the above, with Portugal knowing a win puts them through as group winners to play 2nd place from Grp A. If they don't win, then if Spain win then they win the group. If they lose then they're out and Iran go through. There's also a scenario where Spain lose by 2 and Portugal and Iran draw and Spain go out.
Spain are currently top so Portugal don't necessarily guarantee top spot with a win at all. Spain currently top due to having less yellow cards. There's potential for a coin toss decide winner (if Spain get one more yellow card than Portugal and both win by same scoreline)
I wrote it thinking Spain were top and had to change it after seeing this?

It's this hype that starts grinding on people. I liked the way England went quietly about their preperation, then 20 good minutes in the first game and gubbing a poor Panama team, which included two penalties and a big deflection and the nation's gone full kopite.
I'll be happy enough if they do well, I loved some of the English players in the 80's and 90's but you only need to listen to people like Terry Butcher to see that people need to take a deep breath and slow down a bit. It just makes it all the worse when the wheels come off.

Truly heart warming to know it's not just us Everton fans who think Murphy is a kopite bias cunt . lolol
fucking hell. I never really minded him, apart from him being a kopite. But the cosying up with the chechnya guy, fuck him. Awful. Sickening.
Like I said previously, sickening but you can’t really blame him for it, he never courts the press and seems like a decent bloke, has done a lot for easing Islamaphobia in certain parts.
One things for certain today, I'll be swerving the Egypt V Saudi match, because he will be playing and the commentators will be sat with their cocks in their hands everytime he touches the ball
2 yard pass
"Ooohhh that's world class from Salah" fap fap fap

No, it really isn't a shame, shit fucking happens.
To be honest, i can blame him for it. Maybe he isnt such a decent bloke after all. Its unforgivable in my opinion.
O.k. So you blame him because the pundits are all over him, fine then if that’s your belief.
Fair does, hadn’t seen that, stupid decision of FIFA,Egyptian FA to base them in Chechnya.
No worries. Human rights groups tried to get FIFA to not use that area as a base but money talks i guess!!
That's two free kicks along the ground this world cup. Haven't seen those for ages.
I'm sure De Bruyne did one last season for City?
There was one in the premier league toward the 3nd of last season, forget who but the entire Wall jumped as he took the kick and it went under all of their feet.
Good to see both teams going for it even though they have both qualified already, hope England and Belgium do the same

Iran look rubbish, but they've opened up Portugal a couple of times just lack that bit of quality. Portugal look slow and lacking ideas and relying on bits of magic rather than an actual systematic plan.
Bit harsh. They deserved a point off Spain, and have only conceded to a random wonder goal here. Clearly a very well drilled team.
They work hard and are organised, but they've no attacking quality whatsoever.
Portugal players are shithouses

Hmm. Any player apart from Ronaldo and I reckon that's a red. Ref has completely bottled it giving a yellow - if you think he's tried to elbow him in the face, how can it be anything other than a red?
Wouldn’t have given a yellow myself.
Some of them Iranian women though.
The thing is, I thought the VAR guys were only to tell the ref to have a look if they think he’s made a big mistake.
That puts a lot of pressure on the ref to change his decision.
This has probably been the worst ref performance of the competition.
Needless VAR reviews and he’s lost complete control of the game.
Iran should be ashamed of themselves though. Spent the whole second half moaning at the ref instead of trying to win the game.
i feel so bad for Iran there actually. The guy who missed the chance at the end, poor guy.
Literally just said this to my brother, his reply "hairy armpits lad"
Some of them Iranian women though.
Iran were bad but I don’t believe they were any worse than Portugal.
We all love a bit of shithousery
Suarez vs Pepe.
That’s going to be glorious.
So it's ok to throw the elbow in if your name is Ronaldo

Word from Belgium is that Martinez has said he wants to finish 2nd.
Obviously not exactly like that but it is what he’s implying.
It does seem the easier route strangely.
A few random opinions - We'll play to beat Belgium. We have to really. If you try to get second and it ends up backfiring, you'd never live it down. Also, no-one looks unbeatable so just deal with what the draw brings.
VAR's been overwhelmingly positive. Just should've been trialed a bit earlier to iron out the creases.
I made the mistake of turning Talksport on for half an hour while I was waking up earlier, and Ray Parlour and Alan Brazil were mocking another commentator for going to the Ballet while in Moscow. Parlour said he spent the night in the hotel bar. This is everything that's wrong with certain English people.
Looking forward to Martinez costing Belgium their place in the tournament at some point. He certainly will, they’re not to flash at the back, they will have to score 3 goals per game from here on in to be sure they stay in the comp as they definitely have the potential to concede 2 per game
