Title: Apollon Limassol v Everton - Thursday 7 December
Post by: D15TIN on December 04, 2017, 10:39:35 PM
Obviously a nothing game, but still gives us something to talk about.

Don't even know if Allardyce is taking the team for Thursday, might be Shakespeare and ferguson etc, itll be a 2nd string plus u21's & U18s

Just been text then saying a lad from the U18s is on the bench - Duke-McKenna?

Ideal chance for the much maligned Klassen and Sandro to show what they are made of against crap opposition. I am sure Sam will be interested. We may have to play some first teamers dues to lack of numbers.

Genuinely forgot about this.

Can we leave some players in Limassol?

Genuinely; are there any rules from stopping us sending Unsworth and the u23s to this? Can we get fined if the manager isn’t in attendance? I’d rather the 1st team stayed at home and just worked on shape every day.

In terms of players... it depends on how long they've been with the U23s and how old they are.

Players like Henen, Gibson, and Bowler won't be eligible as they aren't registered and haven't trained here for long enough. But players who've been at the club long enough and aren't too old (*cough* Garbutt) can play. Baningime is an example of someone who has contributed in the Europa League despite not being registered.

We could see Feeney or Baningime involved but I don't think there are any options to cover, say, the full back positions with Connolly and Robinson out on loan and Gethin Jones injured.

There isn't rules about playing a weakened side - Arsenal have done it all tournament.

Obviously we only have 25 registered, however I think U21s that have been at Everton 2 years or more can play

My horrible attempt to recreate our recent approach with back-ups:

GK: Robles
RB: McCarthy (Edit: Why not? Kenny needs a rest.)
CB: Feeney
CB: Keane
LB: Besic (Edit: I never thought I'd want us to take precautions to save Martina's legs but here we are.)
DM: Baningime
RM: Lookman
CM: Klaassen
CM: Vlasic (if Liam Walsh is somehow eligible, I would consider him and shift Vlasic out wide)
LM: Mirallas
CF: Sandro

I had something similar, but Davies or McCarthy instead of Vlasic in CM, and Vlasic out wide instead of Mirallas.

That's what I thought. :-(

It's a shame because he can actually pass the ball, which is something we'll lack without Rooney. Plus, meaningless games are good for debuts.

Klassen, Sandro and vlasic are a must. If McCarthy can go a full 90 then start him, too. Throw the wank Mirallis in there as well.

Might agree with you on Keane but would rather put a cardboard cut out at RB LB or play any one of the other squad players out of position, we 100% need a fit and fresh Kenny and Martina for the Derby.

Why? Players like Sandro, Klaassan, Vlasic haven't played much football the past month or so. Be a decent run out if they're not going to figure at weekend.

Absolutely agree, I didn't mean literally academy players, probably just meant anyone who is in the frame for starting in the Derby should stay behind for a few extra days coaching.

You can take the man out of Bolton...you can even shave off the tache, remove the sovereign rings, gold chains an medallions.. store away his “Brexit”  adorned St.Georges Cross, make him wear suncream on holiday...or occasionally slip a vegetable onto his plate...

But you can’t take Bolton out of the man.

Probably a little harsh assessment given I watched him for an entire 10-15 minutes but Feeney looked proper s**t vs Atlanta. I know hes still young but you dont really develop pace and he also turned like the titanic.

Yes, you can't argue with a medical appointment. But they can be moved easily. especially when you Big Sam and not going through the usual NHS channels for medical stuff.

It would of been mentioned when he was appointed that he had a medical appointment on the Thursday of a game we playing in. The only medical appointment that is tough to move is surgery. And he isn't having that. the only other one is a family appointment that he needs to be there for but that is explained as a personal reason.

he is staying behind to work with the players before the derby. This is the excuse given. It's wrong.

It is right that he stays behind with the potential starting eleven on Sunday, the medical appointment thing is just to prevent UEFA criticising or censoring him for not respecting the competition, smart man.

Hewelt has done well in goals.. Hornby is a pretty good striker..  there are no leftbacks due to 4 (yes 4) of them being out on loan..

great planning that at the start of the season.

Four left-backs sent out on loan with only over-the-hill Baines left at the club to rely on is almost criminal.

Either Koeman was taking the piss, Walsh was utterly incompetent, or a bit of both.

Lookman - man possessed

Vlasic - nice balance, tidy and lively

Mirallas - his 1 good game in 15

Hornby - Big Sam should insert him under Ferguson's wing and commence grooming

Besic - what even is he?

Charsley - definitely not left footed

Klassen - he's definitely a good footballer, just not sure where he fits into the first team

Besic has hilariously bad decision making sometimes.

Charsley and Banningeme both look like capable players, but you can tell that they're playing out of position.

Klaasen has been great tonight, he's the first midfielder that we've had in ages who actually gets 'pass and move'

I wouldn't even say Besic was worthy of a place in the U-23 squad let alone seniors. Bought on the back of once running very fast alongside Gareth Bale. Absolute joke of a player.

Looks to me like Besic is the typical bench player not enough games to find any sort of form ...Even Benni and Feeney are playing constantly for their squads ....very rare anyone sits on a bench for ages then plays like Pele in the first game ...wouldn't pass judgement on any player without a consistant run of games.

This presumably won’t have any impact on the season overall, other than perhaps a few more games for Lookman, but it’s better than what they’ve hitherto been serving up. I don't understand the need to make things up to be positive about to be honest

We've seen some great goals tonight - there's a positive

Weve kept three clean sheets - there's a positive

The players look like they give a shit - there's a positive

To try and crowbar in positivity about something that just isn't the case does nothing but cheapen the actual positivity to be honest

Allardyce had nothing to do with he West Ham win. And tonight was a load of players who've never played together competitively in a dead rubber which he didn't even go to.

It's great to win away in Europe but credit those who did it, and those who were there on the sidelines.

May as well give these results to kenwright if we're giving it to anyone who we feel needs a boost with the fans

Allardyce doesn't have to be at the game to have influence.

The mood and tone he sets around the club can quickly lead to an environment where players feel more confident, determined to do their best, follow instructions on the pitch etc.

Obviously this is just speculation, I've no idea really.

I thought it was Everton's best performance in the Europa League competition since we started back in July. The attacking players like Lookman and Vlasic played very well, it was nice to see some pace injected into our team and the players definitely seemed up for it. I thought the general game management was very good. Limassol had some chances but our (makeshift) defence dealt with it all very well. We are still conceding quite a few silly fouls especially Klaassen right at the edge of their penalty box but overall a pretty good victory and a more positive performance.

Entertaining game. Lookman and Vlasic were the best two on the park. Lookman was really up for it but his decision making was poor at times.

Feeney was good at the back, but they did get a fair few chances, which Robles was well up to.

Well played by the young ones. Nice way to cap off a horrendous europa campaign.

Missed the match, can someone sum up please, thanks

We’re on fire at the moment, 3 wins on the trot, 3 clean sheets on the trot and we’re going to give the shite a beating on Sunday

That's what happens when you surround yourself by yes men or family members though

He needed someone to tell him what was wrong

Very few managers employ people who will do that though

and I really hope that player is Salah. Scores an own goal that wins us the game. Forced out of Liverpool and escapes to is to partner Aubamayeng in the new lethal Everton

ive always loved Mirallas, but yesterday he was selfish, lots of chances to pass, but he just carried on himself.. then other times when Vlasic or Lookman tried to do their skills,, Mirallas was the first one to moan at them (only one to moan at them)
maybe he thinks he's bigger than he is.. he tracked well.. just didnt like his moaning at our own players.. especially moaning at tehe younger ones.. not sure if i see it as jealousy or as an older head trying to keep them calm...

Mirallas legs have gone, a few times when he was running he went to sprint away but there was nothing there

just had to Google but turns out Mirallas is 30!

not many 30 year olds can sprint like they could when they were 25, sadly

I was such a big Mirallas fan, especially after he snapped Suarez.

But he really should and could have been so much more, and he just never quite pushed on. Needs replacing.
